Pain Relief Overview

An analgesic drug, also called simply an analgesic, pain reliever, or painkiller, is any member of the group of drugs used for pain management. Analgesics are conceptually distinct from anesthetics, which temporarily reduce, and in some instances eliminate, sensation, although analgesia and anesthesia are neurophysiologically overlapping and thus various drugs have both analgesic and anesthetic effects. Analgesic choice is also determined by the type of pain: For neuropathic pain, recent rese...

Hydromorphone 2mg prescribed

I was prescribed Dilaudid 2mg every 6 hours as needed for pain after being in the hospital for 5 days getting it through an IV every 2 hours as needed.... The pills I was prescribed were 4mg and I cut them in half.... Am I at serious risk if I take a whole pill for severe pain??? I am embarassed to ask my doctor in fear that he will think I am an addict trying to get a cheap high. This is not the case however. I actually am not a fan of taking pills at all, not even tylenol. The pain is almost unbearable. What do I do??? ## 4mgs is not a dangerous dose, though it is really strong and if you aren't used to taking medications, it will probably hit you very hard and you'll experience more of the side effects. Since it is a potent narcotic, they can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizz...

Lee's Save The Baby vapor rub

My grandmother, mother, and myself have used Save The Baby on our children's as a warm chest rub. I would put a T-shirt on them. I have also rubbed it on my husband's and my chest over our lung area front and back then wore a T-shirt to bed. No matter how sick with a cold or congestion we were, we would sleep through the night. What was really great about this chest rub is that it never got you cold. I have used Vick Vapor Rub and it makes your chest cold. Four generations of my family have used Save The Baby Vapor Rub and now that I have grandchildren and greatgrandchildren;one of which has croupey nights, I have searched many Pharmacies around and have been unable to find any. Would it be possible to order it from LEE'S Save the Baby vapor rub? ## Hello, Curly! How are you...

Putting Patches Over Tattoos

I've used just about every area on both my arm for patch placement except over a tattoo on my right arm. The tattoo is over 30 years old but it was done with a lot ink saturation. Can the patch be applied directly over this? I've never put one there because I thought it might inhibit the medicine from penetrating. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is my second post. ## Yes, you can place it over your tatts. My arms are sleeves and I am on 100 every 48 hours for chronic pancreatitis. ## has anyone tryed the new sandoz 75mcg transderm patch. just got them. And have been haveing bad stomach problems?? ## Yes you can put a patch over a tattoo I had one on my lower abbs and had no problem, but should alternate where you put it every time, arm upper backside, but not on the waist. ##...

Endocet 10/325 vs. Mallinckrodt

I’ve gone thru several variants of Percocet 10/325 over the past 20 years, (7 C-spine surgeries and 3 lumbar spine surgeries, and still suffer horrible pain on a daily basis). Endocet is one of the only meds that works for me, doesn’t make me sick to my stomach, nor any side effects. (I haven’t had to have any increases in strength or amount of daily intake, so I’m pleased with the Endocet)... But my cost has gone up to $159 for a one month supply (150 tabs), which is tough for me to handle financially. My ‘local Mom & Pop pharmacy’ suggested I try the Malinkrodt generic as it’s cost is much lower. I’m just concerned that it won’t work as well, or won’t agree with me. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the Mali...

Doriden/glutethimide availability

Does anyone know where one could obtain glutethimide or it's brand name Doriden (CIBA Company)? Am in Canada where Doriden was discontinued in late 1980s and I was told Doriden discontinue was international. Perhaps there is now a generic form containing glutethimide available now as I would assume CIBA trademark rights would have by now expired. As the benzodiazapine replacement meds for Doriden are more addictive and dangerous (especially if mixing with alcohol & other drugs) it sure would be great to be able to go back to Doriden or glutethimide which were more effective and safer. A shame that the public was switched over to benzodiazipines (i.e. lorazapam, diazapam) when a better/safer product was available all in the name of profits and economics. Any help out there is mos...

Long term addiction

Hi I'm in the U.K. And been on oxycodone for just over 2 years. Prior to this I was taking MST morphine. I lost me mum at the end of last year and whilst she was ill in the hospital I was waiting for a 2nd operation on my L2 disc. At the time I was really low and took a 10 mil ER to make my mood better, not really for pain, which was a mistake as I'm now taking too much this way. I'm really at a crossroads in my life and feel mood swings daily! I need to get a grip before it's too late! If I didn't have children I probably would already be gone to be honest! I'm hoping for a reply off someone who's been in similar situations and can give me a positive outlook for the future! Please help me. I'm seriously lower than a snakes belly and take more and more as...

Tramadol addiction

TRAMADOL=DECEPTIVE POISON. this drug is one of the nastier little secrets of the painkiller industry. from my experience it is highly addictive with all the standard withdrawal symptoms plus severe interference with the logical thought processes, more so than other opiates. and to think that this drug is advertised as a safer alternative to other painkillers. I work with numbers as part of my job and I was unable to function once i ran out of my supply early. put myself into a long term suboxone rehab program. am almost ready to "graduate" from the program. (yipee!!!). this nightmare has cost me about $450 a month for doc visits and meds. TRAMADOL = DECEPTIVE POISON ## Sorry about the problem you had from taking Tramadol. And yes, it can be very deceptive. Since it is classified...

yellow football shaped from the 70's

used in the 70's when we had menstrual cramps. The side effects included a strange feeling in your body, loss of appetite, calmness, just wanted to sit and feel good, made everything in the world wonderful, Very addictive. ## I'm sorry, but from this description, I really have no idea what it may have been. These side effects are common to many medications, both old and new and the description really doesn't help narrow it down. It could have been anything from a narcotic to an early Benzodiazepine. Does anyone else remember what this was? ## this pill i believe was called daprazol although i may not be spelling it right but thats how we pronounced it. Many of us guys had girlfriends who had prescriptions for these pills for menstrual cramps in the 1970s. So of course we beg...

Aidolol Tramadol

I filled a prescription of Tramadol from Mexico & the brand is Adiolol 100 mg capsules. There are no markings on the capsules & they're white. Anyone know if these are legitimate? Just concerned about the reliability. ## Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure, that is the hazard of filling a prescription in a foreign country. Their medications are not as strictly regulated as those under the auspices of the FDA. If you received it from a legitimate pharmacy, with a good reputation there, then most likely they are real, but there's no way to be certain, unless you would have them tested by a lab. A quick search doesn't even turn up anything under this name, but the databases that I use are geared towards U.S. approved medications. The FDA warns that Tramadol carrie...
