Parkinsons Overview

Parkinson's disease (PD), or simply Parkinson's, is a chronic degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that affects both the motor system and non-motor systems. cogentin abuse

I have unbearable anxiety and cogentin 2mg helps for a few hours but not the whole day. It was prescribed because I take Haldol. It gets me stoned when I take it and I feel guilty but I prefer that to gut-wrenching anxiety. Do the side effects go with time or am I going to feel stoned for as long as I take cogentin? ## Hello, Alex! How are you? Side effects typically go away with time, once your body gets used to a medication, though they may recur, if your dosage is raised at any point. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including blurred vision, constipation, headache and impaired memory. Is there anything else I can help with? ## are you sure the Cogentin makes you stoned? usually the Haldol is a very heavy hitter. they sometimes use BENADRYL instead of Cogentin. i ...

Weight loss after stopping Mirapex

I have gradually gained weight since starting .25 mg of Mirapex about 4 years ago. I have rapidly gained weight since my dosage was increased by my doctor two years ago (increased to .75). Total weight gain of 40 pounds. I am not going to take this drug anymore and plan to use alternative remedies. Will I begin to lose weight when the Mirapex is completely out of my system? ## Hello, SandraD! How are you? This medication has been known to cause weight gain, according to FDA reports, as well as nausea, fever, vertigo, mania, and abnormal dreams. But yes, typically these issues go away, once someone stops taking the given medication, but that may take 6 to 8 weeks. What condition was being treated with this medication? ## Thanks for your reply. I was taking it for Restless Leg Syndrome. S...

Emsam & Contact Dermatitis

As a victim of refractory depression I have only found one medication that worked, EMSAM, unfortunately I am allergic to acrylic adhesives. Has anyone found a way to get around the contact dermatitis the EMSAM acrylic matrix can cause? ## Hi Keller, While I may not have personal experience with EMSAM, I did want to suggest trying some sort of topical anti-inflammatory compound to help combat any dermatitis that might occur after applying the adhesive. A couple alternative remedies that you might want to look into are: lavender essential oil (can help reduce redness, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and more) topical ointments that contain cayenne pepper (for its great anti-inflammatory benefits) There are a plethora of other essential oils that offer similar benefits as well. I hope t...

Mirapex for extreme leg cramps

My doctor's PA suggested that I take Mirapex for extreme leg cramps in my groin. The cramps started after I was forced to take statins to lower my cholesterol levels. The statins didn't work, but caused the extreme leg cramps. I would be left screaming for 40 minutes or more when the cramps would hit. The PA suggested trying Mirapex at .125mg up to .375mg dosage rates on an "as needed" basis. Mirapex was nothing short of a miracle. When the cramps would hit, I would take two .125mg tablets and the cramps would completely stop in about 20 minutes. I have been checked for underlying conditions (Restless leg, Parkinson's) and they don't exist. I know this treatment may be considered "off-label", but it has been a lifesaver for me. ## Since Mirapex is commonl...
