Lisa,
I just wanted to let you know my situation is very similar to yours. I used to take 30-40 mg oxy a day and switched to tramadol and did not withdrawal. I felt lucky at first did thought I was exempt. I later learned that tramadol is great for keeping withdrawal symptoms at bay. Because if I've ever made the mistake of running out of my tramadol early I withdrawal hardcore and it sucks. I'm incredibly dependent upon my tramadol and I know that to quit it will be very painful and a huge struggle.... Just wanted to share with you and anyone else listening that tramadol is no joke and it's not free from addiction or withdrawal. I thought tramadol was safe but it's just as bad. Tramadol is also a serotonin inhibitor which means it gives you feelings of happiness and motivation. So coming off of tramadol also seems to come with a temporary onset of depression. I just wish everyone the best... Be careful.. God bless.

To be fair, although enough prolonged opioid use will lead to some level of dependence, everybody is different. The level of withdrawal symptoms can range from general aches and irritability, to full blown physical and mental anguish. Some people are much more resistant to withdrawal symptoms than others. Some people just completely fall apart. And then there are all levels of physical and psychological dependence in between.

It's not inconceivable that someone who has used some form of opiate for a prolonged period is able to go cold turkey with limited symptoms. A full blown intravenous opiate addiction is inescapable without significant symptoms, but oral medication taken as prescribed will be much less severe, and could even be overlooked by a person who is not prone to histrionics. The symptoms would be there, but perhaps just largely ignored.

I have friends that kick way harder than I do, and I have friends that kick way less.

Everybody is different. That is just a fact.

I have IC also, had several er trips and saw numerous specialists before my urologist did a hydrodistion and biopsy and saw all the ulcers and bruising in my bladder and the biopsy came back full of WBCs. I had a er doc ask me why I was on enough meds for a cancer patient and how did I get social security disability, I was passing a kidney stone and wonder why they don't read up on ic before asking ridiculous questions

No dude you have to have inpatient rehab if you honestly want to make a change for yourself and in your life if you want a totally different life and mentality and perspective go to Teen Challenge! It saved my life I graduated after 15 months and stayed on as staff for a while. It's for ALL ages. Trust me your weak if you won't do that program and actually stay in it or any program that's over 6 months for that matter. Get a grip and die to yourself if you want a change google the men's or women's center whichever sec you are. And start packing. Jesus Christ is the only one who can save you stop looking for answers and start making some

They are the same. But as an opioid dependent person, my advise to you is don't do it. Trust me. Unless its for very short term use for pain. Consider cannabis. I wish i had.

Lisa I hear what ur saying and agree. I've been on pain meds of every kind for 20 years. I'm currently on oxycodone 15 q 4-6. I've had duragesic patches 100 mg. up to 3 at a time. The pharmacy had argument with Dr to fill it. My condition is chronic. I never experience withdrawal but feel bad for those who do. I also am pissed because all the people that abuse it R now making it hard for those who need it. The reason we don't withdraw is because our bodies r calling for it to exist. I also can take meds routinely an then just stop for days sorry guys it happens. I never get that high that people talk about.our bodies r calling for it because it's in pain not withdrawal. The problem with making it so hard to get is my Dr is now afraid to increase dose because I'll be red flagged an called in more often for U/A's and counts. It cost me $36 $ to take a cab. What will eventually happen is those that need it will turn to illegal drugs. I take meds as needed to stay out of hospital but also have good days where i take nothing.

I know the feeling mud.. I've had my back broken and have osteoarthritis and the first mention of pain even without asking for pain meds you're automatically an addict. So I stay home and suffer everyday.. Makes me mad when people who are just wanting them to get high..

Clubmemeber......I'm sorry to hear you suffer in place of getting the relief that's available, but agreed, the addicts have caused it to become very difficult for the folks that really need it. I'm lucky enough to have a caring doctor who won't let addicts get in the way of treating those who need it. My daughter and I have both had multiple back surgeries and she goes to the same practice I do, it's amazing how different they treat her compared to me, as she is in a different location with higher addicts. They are much stricter with her. I've been with my doc 7 years, she's been with hers 5 years. I hope you are able to get some relief and find a doc who won't stereotype you.

I know this thread is old but i searched this subject because I'm two weeks out and I'm just now having withdrawal (I think). Was on perc 10mg 3-4 times a day and the doc took me off cold turk. Workers comp doc started me on them a month ago after a back injury. Yep still had the tramadol to use for last 2 weeks. Tramadol as everyone has stated makes your brain think it's getting opiate as it is synchetically acting like an opiate but def not as powerful. But better than nothing also. Symptoms i think to be possible withdrawals started 14 days after last perc even with tramadol. The back of my head for the past five days has had a pressure on it, what could feel like a tension headache. Then last night i started with runny nose. Already had softening stool yesterday also. Oh and my last tramadol was 2 days ago. Was on vicoprofen for past ten years from a work injury, 300lb bar of steel met my foot in spectacular fashion and the rest was history. I got hit with another bar of steel a month ago right at the top of back on the c5 or c6 vertebrae. Since they put me on stronger med at workers comp doc my primary doc took me off my vicoprofen. Now he is saying he can't give them to me anymore and will refer me to pain management. I guess for ten years i was lucky cause Tennessee has really cracked down on narcotics by putting pressure on primary care doctors. So I'll be one of the ones needing it for real pain so i can work and not being able to afford raising my family and paying 400$ extra a month, as well as missing work once a month to come to a pain management clinic where they rape you. Tennessee is the worst state for addiction and the addicts have screwed people who work and take pain meds honestly. Anyway, i did try and stop cold turk in December of last year because the medicine wasn't working anymore. After 3 days i had flu like symptoms and eventually had to miss work because i felt so bad and was in moderate pain. I thought i could handle it and usually do but after 2 weeks i was losing to much work and since i help my wife around the house cause i try hard to make life easy on her just couldn't bare it anymore. I've never told anyone that. But pain meds in Tennessee are getting harder to come by and it hurts me to see people who need them go without because of garbage addicts destroying an honest persons credibility. Sorry had to vent, anyway, sorry if i got off subject but just wanted to put this here so if anybody reads this they will know a little about what some of the other who posted about withdrawal can read it. I was looking a found this thread on a Google search about strange withdrawal symptoms. Thank you everyone who posted also. Just let's me know that the struggle isn't just mine. God bless all us poor souls who need and don't abuse...

And just some awesome useful info. Neurontin (generic name is galbapentin) really helps withdrawal, since my foot injury i was getting the pins and needles feeling in foot and a year ago the doc give me them. They really help, and at the end of December i started taking them more because i did another search back then and it said they were good for withdrawal symptoms. Don't do anything about your injury pain but really helps the restless legs and tossing and turning and sweating symptoms. Was prescribed 300mg once a day and usually didn't take them but after i searched it up and thankfully had them on hand already it helped so much. And one other thing, don't drink any caffeine products 4 hours before bed while trying to go off your meds. It really helps you get to sleep easier, especially if you take the neurontin about 2-3 hours before you plan on laying down. I think i read a long time ago that caffeine is an anti agonist and even though we love it actually works against you sometimes, in my case at bedtime lol... Good luck friends...

Trust me friend, the struggle is for many of us. I too sustained a back injury while working and ended up having two separate spinal fusions, then two separate hardware removals. I was told prior to my first fusion that it's common for patients who have L5-S1 fusions to end up with an entire new issue brought on by the surgery, which is what I'm battling now. It's called SI joint disorder and it's horribly painful. The only possible way to fix it, is to fuse both joints. After having two failed fusions already and coming out of that with a brand new problem, I just don't think I'm up for having anymore back surgeries. I can't begin to tell you how many times suicide was a thought. The ONLY thing stopping me was my children.

I have a great pain management doctor who I've seen for almost 8 years. He has prescribed my meds all of those 8 years as well as gives the epidurals and SI joint inj's. about every 3-4 months. I'm lucky in the sense that he has never taken away or restricted my pain meds. As a matter of fact he has suggested increasing my mg, but I always refuse as I don't want anything stronger than what I take now. I get really good relief with the combo of meds and Inj's. he has me on. Currently I take 30mg roxicodone 4x day, 100mg tramadol 3x day and 100mg Lyrica 1 at bedtime.

I've run into several problems with pharmacies having them, which just means I have to drive all around the county looking for it, but I agree that there are MANY patients who suffer greatly because of the addicts who make it hard for those of us that are legit. Good luck to you friend and I hope you find help

Oxycodone and Oxycontin are more different than just being IR vs ER. Do some basic research before talking s*** when you obviously don't have a clue as to what your talking about. SMH
