Buspar (busiprone) & False Positives - Yes, They Can Happen (Page 2)

I've noticed a-lot of poeple out there are asking about buspar, & false postives.. as well as it's relation to xanax (alprazalam). Let me start off by saying that my husband is prescribed 15mg. buspar (I believe 1 3x a day) along w/some other drugs from his pyschologist such as ambien, and depacote. I can state that I took his buspar during a horrible anxiety/panic attack (also known as busiprone) and I also need to mention I go to a methadone clinic. After taking the buspar, I went to clinic to take my usual drug-screen (also let me mention I was receiving takehomes, only going once every 2 weeks as I'd never failed a drug test), thinking nothing of it as I'd read they don't show up as anything. Well, WRONG for me.. my drug test came back 100% positive for benzo's.. I had no xanax, valium, clonpazen(sorry about the spelling there) in my system, etc. My husband also had the same problem with one of his urine drug screen's at the methadone clinic we both attend for a postive on benzo's when all he had taken was buspar & ambien, which he both has valid prescriptions for. They broke both our tests down and they came back showing up as Nordiazepam, and Oxeazepam on both -- Unfortunately our clinic is under debate about them showing up because of the way the break-down showed up. All I can say is if anyone has ever had a false-positive for buspar, please let me know. I'm trying to prove to my clinic that in come cases they can show up, maybe it has to do with certain people. I dunno? But, it happened to me and my husband both.

Ir diesvhappen no lie!!! It happened to my brother who has to have drug testing for court because of lies his X told. FIR 6 YRS he's had a false test till 2 months ago he took my byspar and faiked his drug testing....they broke it down and could c he wasn't on drugs an they took a strand of his hair an saw he'd never done any drugs...hope this helps

I test positive for opiates every time I take Zantac for heartburn. My clinic will spin the text down further to show that it is a false positive so I am very fortunate. I know most courts & clinics don't do that.

I am currently at a methadone clinic and got take homes also i just got prescribed the buspar and see several ppl on here saying they've failed there drug test coming up as a Xanax I also get drug test for cys for my kids if I have a valid prescription for the buspar and a benzo shows up will I be ok or be considered dirty?????????

Hello, I am current buspar taker and I know for a fact that it does give a false positive for THC... I've never smoked the stuff but recently found out that in women, I fall within the 6% of Americans who tested positive for other drugs... I found this out by doing research on webmd

I took a drug screen today and I take buspar and I had a false positive for methadone my doc told me it was the buspar causing this false positive.the lab can break it down if you really had a false positive

It all really depends on the person. I have a monster metabolism, and take methadone for pain management since my insurance dumped me, against the law btw. So I've been waiting three months now to get Obama pain management. Hopefully soon. Anyway. As I said, I have a monster metabolism, and their are more drugs I cannot tolerate than I can. I'm not a big fan of methadone, especially for pain, but I take 80mgs. It's the on "opiate" that has ever caused me drowsiness or constipation and at one point I took 180mg of Oxycontin a day with 12 mg of Dilaudid. So my GP started me on benzo's to helps with sleep and relaxation. Btw I cannot tolerate any muscle relaxers. I take 1mg of Adivan in the day if I need it, and one to two mgs of xanax as I am winding down. Usually half mg 4hr before sleep, another 2 hours later and another at bed time. They come in 2mg bars and are easy to break up. I also take 30 mgs of Norco for pain pain per day. So all that may seem like a lot, but I always have plenty of all of them at the end of the month, because I simply don't need them. Or if I start building a tolerance I back off. Oxycodone/contin is the only med I don't burn up. So I don't have any horror stories for you about the combination. Women usually tolerate benzo's better than men also. So as long as she is stable and not drowsy from her methadone, then Benzo's should be fine. Just make sure that her breathing is stable...because that's usually what gets people. They take too many opiates, then benzo's, then alcohol, and then the lights don't come back on. Good luck, and just be honest with yourselves. If you feel you might be getting carried away...just have a little will power and in only a few days off of them, or at half dosage, your tolerance will drop again. Just my experience...not a Dr. though. Good luck

I also attend a clinic and the same happened to me as well. My doctor said My urine was dirty but I haven't taken any benzo's just buspirone. So that's why I was looking it up to find out the same as you.

My buspar never came up in my drug screens at the methadone clinic thats weird.

I take buspar and am on 60mg of methadone I do not feel nothing at all compared to taking a Xanax with the methadone so far I feel normal hope this helps oh yea I'm on 15mg of buspar 3 times a day

I am prescribed Busiprone and have been taking them roughly 3 months now. I am in an outpatient treatment program and dont take any other medications besideds OTC ibuprofen and failed my random ua last week for benzos. I spoke with my PO and he did research online and false positives do happen as Im in treatment for alcohol, bever been into pills. Hope this helps.

If you'll simply go to any pill finder type of website & type in the pill name it will give you the full medical report on it which does show that it can indeed cause false positives. Printing that out & taking it to your clinic will prove your case and be legitimate proof that the clinic will accept. Versus trying to use other people from a blog to testify it's happened to them which isn't something your clinic would accept as proof. This will indeed help your husband with his false positive, but it may not help you any considering that regardless of whether or not it's a benzo it's still a controlled substance that you took without a prescription written to you. For that reason you will most likely still find yourself in the same bad situation with the clinic for using a controlled considering that using a controlled substance without a script is illegal regardless of what medication it is. I was prescribed methadone 5 mg. 3X's a day. I had a problem with my heart an landed in ICU for a week. They stopped my methadone an put me on Norco ( that's a joke ) But hadn't had methadone in 6 months. I took my usual UA an the doctor said I showed positive for methadone so he stopped my pain med, I've had 5 back surgeries by the way. I went straight to a drug screening clinic an did an observed ua which came back negative . They sent results to the doctor but he still refused to give me my medication....I went into withdraw...,horrible. I found another doctor that gave me a scrip for Norco. What else can a person do to prove they are legal!!!! I don't think it's going to get any easier these days as we are judged an totaled a " waste of good air". If you find a doctor that cares about you, don't do anything to screw it up.....with some of them you don't have to do anything. I would love to be able to show certain doctors as liars!!!

Yes it showed a false positive today on my wife and she does not take sleeping pills nor does she take any kind of nerve pills. Only Buspar. She is on suboxone and thats why she was screened today.

It happens very often, I was incarcerated for about a year and everyone that was trying to get out on CCP and weren't able to because when they would go to give a urine they were coming back positive for benzodiazepines and the only medications they were taking in jail were buspars. It is very very common for that to happen. I wonder why?

Yes. I take buspar and I text positive for Benzo's every frickin drug screen. I take suboxone and get screened once a month. I am SO glad to hear that others have the same issue. I have told my pain doc that it's the buspar causing my false poz testing but they say no. Am SO going to show them this!!

I was an addict for 15 years and am now clean and sober. I tak 4 buspar a day 1 celexa and 1 seroquel at night. I just took a 12 drug drug test this morning and only failed for TCA tricyclic antidepressents. All research ive done says they wont test poss for anything. Confused and need to figure out why im coming up hot?? Help please

Well I just went today to my probation and tested positive and haven't had any drugs around me at all and now looking at jail time cuz of this positive testing. Which one was for like pain pills and for methamphetamine and for THC and haven't had or done any of those things for months. Only thing I've taken is one buspirone the other night for an anxiety attack I was having and tested positive today for my probation office.

Buspar is going to show as a benzo BC it is one...you wouldn't think so but it is in the benzo family.
