Concerta Causing Fatigue And Anger?

Updated

My 9 year old is on Concerta and I'm worried, he has lost so much weight, he is skin and bones. He is never hungry. Plus he is always falling asleep at school and anywhere he is all day long. Plus it has not helped at all but made his anger worse. Getting into fights all the time. What do I do?

i think it depends on the dosage level. i take it myself and have been used to not being hungry and not being able to sleep very well. the dosage might be a good reason for the irritability. or he not be taking his meds, because, once, when i was on a med rest from the concerta, i was really irritable for a couple of weeks, but i'm not sure. i agree with verwon: talk to the perscribing doc pronto. he be having a bad reaction to it.

Hi there , and so sorry for what u 2 are going through. my son takes concerta and it has been a hard road, but it does not work for ever one. Mine take concerta and clonidine which helps him rest at night. He eats well in the am before his meds, and at night he cane eat me out of the house , but from the time he takes them there is a 8 hour period that he drinks all the time . The DR. had him on several med's before we found the right one. I would be takeing him to a different DR. if they are doing that push me off thing. Like just give it time, Oh that is just a side effect.ect I know the meds do slow down eating but I would ask for a change. Or a new DR.

My son has been taking Concerta for quite some time and has also had issues with loss of appetite and sleeplessnes. If you have ever taken a pill for ADD/ADHD, you will understand how it makes your child feel. Be sure they have plenty to drink because it does make you thirsty. Also, I would talk to the Doc about getting a prescription to increase appetite. I had to do this with my son. Feed your child before you give the medicine also. Encourage your child to eat whatever they want!
