Doctors Who Will Prescribe Pain Medication In Rhode Island (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I am looking for an MD or Pain clinic that will prescribe pain medication in Rhode Island. I have 4 herniated discs, nerve damage in my leg, severe migraines. My former Md said that he could not longer prescribe due to the regulations, I dont want to have to move, that would be crazy to have to go through that, but I also do not want to continue living night and day in Agony, with not one Md that has any compassion, it seems all they care about is to look out for themselves, I only take 2 pain medications that I believe are both in class 1, but when you talk to a doctor about pain, they tell you to take tylenol. I am tired of theses doctors just caring about themselves, if you have a patient like myself, that has the MRI's and Catscans to show what my pain level is, they should be a little more compassionate. I am not able to have surgery at this time, not until my daughter is driving and able to get out on her own, grocery store, ect. I would really appreciate any advise, I sleep with a heat pad every night on my back, but when I go to get up, the pain is unbearable.

I would recommend edible medical marijuana. I have severe neuropathy and hated taking medications. I started with the brownies and cookies and feel better. All natural with zero negativity.

Re: Bobby (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I've been dealing with severe pain from doing roofing, falling off roofs on the concrete, I fell off a cliff on a 4 wheeler, been through a car windshield, and still some. I do bodybuilding, boxing, mma, bjj, worked with my body like a circus animal lol, but I've been through it all, so my vertebrae is a mess pain wise. Horrible, I’ve got arthritis in my entire body and injuries in my left hand, both shoulders. I was on the methadone pills for like 7 years. My dr got a suspension though he did nothing wrong, but he got it back and he was supposed to take care of that himself, and he dropped the ball on me leaving me to have to go to a methadone clinic that I hate, and they torture my life with the stress they bother me with and unethical treatment of human beings is awful. Now I could have refused my dr when he called and said that’s patient abandonment. I like him though I 100% know he’s wrong, and I’d rather I not need opioid pain meds, but I cannot walk or live without them, and unfortunately I’m the type that needs them more than anybody I know and I don’t feel anything but normal even when I was on the 80mg and 160mg oxycontin. I only feel normal, and I don’t pop pills just for the sake. I take what I need. I don’t like how too many drs are giving ppl like me a hard time, but I see others and they are whacked out their mind. I’m surprised, but not. If you’re on it for pain it goes to the pain and I know my medications better than a lot of drs. I’m not being cocky, I just know about them from reading everything about anything with a wide range not just talking opioids.

I’m so scared, cause I know exactly what I’d do if I were able to go to the pharmacy and just go behind the counter and would know exactly what I need for nobody knows my body and mind like I do. I’m hyper-aware of everything, but my body is able to go to the gym and workout hard, and I’m looking for work, and I end up in construction always, but I’m looking. I had my own buisiness, but I’m not going to get into that. Now of the hundreds of collisions I’ve been in, most I never went to the hospital for even when my head went through the windshield drivers side. I was a passenger and I just hated waiting at the hospital and I wish that everything was documented. However my body tells the tale. I just know it’s so wrong the way I've been treated. I really hope this is for real and not something that’s fake. I cannot trust the internet much at all, but I feel like I was used as a guinea-pig as was millions of more. I’m not going to get into that, but nobody worked physically as hard as me. I was going on roof jobs when I was 3 and 4, so I’ve worked full time since age 10 and I wouldn’t be able to go to the gym or do anything really so I’m at the mercy of an unmerciful world. I just want to be on what I know is best for me. I’ve taken and been prescribed everything supposedly strong, but I only feel normal when I take whatever it is, no matter how strong. I just want this to be understood as best for I’m in liquid handcuffs and they give u/a's and I never once use/used anything that I’m not prescribed. I know what I’m doing. Please help me. I will promise that you’d be saving a life. Thanks.

Re: Concerned Friend (# 230) Expand Referenced Message

I am on Suboxone for Chronic pain, and have only researched and read others experiences about Methadone.

Suboxone, to me, is the best. I take the least amount I can, compared to the Opiates that stopped working. I went from my wheelchair to walking a lot. My head is no longer in a fog, I remember everything, I actually forget to take it at times in the summer. I still can't do things, due to my injuries, and I know I will never be pain free. On Suboxone pain level can be a 0 - 5 if I over do it. I lye down and pain level goes way down. I also quit smoking.

The research I have done on methadone. Some people, not all, feel euphoric when taking it. A friend was on Methadone, years ago, and he used to nod off like he did when he was on H. It could have been he was getting too much. That seems to be the biggest difference, people say Methadone makes them feel high, and they are on it for years, some 10+. I personally feel it is just trading 1 drug for another. Search Methadone on this site, you will read how they know when they can take other pain medications, even while on Methadone.

I was scared to switch, but I felt Suboxone was the best for me.

I am happy I get drug panels every 28 days. It holds me accountable and shows my doctor I am honest and responsible with my meds. He has no problem giving me the Klonopin, Ambien, and Flexeril I need.

Re: Concerned Friend (# 230) Expand Referenced Message

I only know about Suboxone for chronic pain. I was given 2 bilingual strips in the doctors office. Felt better 15 minutes later.

It helps with my pain, but I know I will never be pain free or "normal."

Re: Jule (# 179) Expand Referenced Message

I was on 8 15mg oxycodone a day for 4 years. The doctor told me if I refused the back surgery he couldn't give me my pain meds anymore which wasnt a big deal my goal was to get off of them anyway. But I agreed to the surgery thinking my back would finally feel better and i can stop taking meds. Big mistake my back was worse than before and still is. But 7 months after my surgery my doctor said he couldn't keep giving me medication because he isn't a pain management doctor. I was cut off my meds. To my surprise I never once had withdrawals. I found a pain management doctor but won't give me oxycodone. He has given methadone, morphine along with other pills to try and I refuse to take them. They make me sick. The oxycodone I could take not get sick and function and clearly wasnt getting addicted seeing ive gone cold turkey for several months. Just dealing with severe pain which I'm getting tired of.

Hi, just saw your post. I have rods n screws in my lower back and have chronic back pain. I've been taking morphine pills but can't keep doing it and I'd like to get in touch hoping you can help with a doctor. I'm done with needles in the back & don't want to smoke marijuana. I just want to live with some pain relief. Please write me back if you know of a doctor. Ty.

Update - my friend was rejected by St. Anne's because he had a problem with another pain clinic. However, he is now starting on methadone [for chronic pain, not addiction]. It is helping his pain but initially he has been struggling with some nausea/vomiting. What are the pros and cons of methadone vs suboxone? Does anyone know? Thanks!

I have MS and weakness on my right side due to the MS, as well as fibromyalgia, urine retention, seizures, polyps in my uterus that need to be removed, depression, and anxiety. I'm in severe chronic body pain everyday and I can't live like this anymore. Are there any doctors in Rhode Island that can help?

For people suffering from chronic pain, Suboxone is an option. 1mg is the equivalent of 15mg morphine. It works best for people who have been on opiates for a long time. I am talking about taking it for chronic pain management, not addiction. It works for pain relief in 85%-95% of people. It has been used for pain management for years in other countries.

Definitely something to think about. Works for me after 80mg oxycontin x3, oxycontin 10mg x3, plus more, stopped helping my pain and my quality of life was nil.

Re: Gail (# 223) Expand Referenced Message

Doctors can still write narcotics. They are unable to write for 30 days at a time for chronic pain patients.

Re: Gail (# 223) Expand Referenced Message

Why is my doctor lying to me? That's a shame to let someone suffer. I've been without my pain meds for a month, waiting to be seen by a pain clinic. And there's a chance they won't give it to me. What do I have to do? This really sucks.

Still searching for help for my friend - pain clinics thus far not very helpful (Biltmore - Comprehensive Pain Mgt in Franklin, Pain Management Ctr, Attleboro). Hoping to get in to The Center for Pain Management @ St Ann's Hospital in Swansea, don't know if they are going to be any better. I am not going to go into details but my friend is in a lot of pain and very upset by all this. Trying to think of other options via lawyers, press, state reps etc...

I have degenerative disc disease and I have tried everything from acupuncture to surgery and pain block shots with no relief. However, the only medicine that works is 10mg methadone which I have been taking for over 10 years, but my pcp can no longer prescribe me this. Can you help?
