Is Mylan Lorazepam Discontinued? (Page 12) (Top voted first)

Updated

My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not.

Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects).

Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. Other medicine such as clonazepam, alprazolam (xanax), cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, etc do not work.

*Update on Sandoz*
So I called Sandoz back as the last time I spoke with them they said they were still making it yet my pharmacy was unable to get it. This time they said it was indeed discontinued. And i do believe them this time as it was also taken off their website list of produced medications.

Actually your "Watson" is Actavis. Watson (which i considered to be the best generic ativan though i am sure there will be those that differ)...was bought out by Teva around 2012-13. I'm sure there were a couple years of stockpiled Watson to go through in warehouses and pharmacies but i noticed a difference around 2017. A friend who is a pharmacist told me the "Watson" you see on the India-made pill bears the name "Watson" simply because when Watson was purchased, they bought the molds too. The formula...um..is a tad different...whether its the fillers or less active ingredient...i've noticed the embossed "warson" is not as clear and the color of the tablet is different. Keeping in mind the rather important placebo factor...many have not noticed any change and that is good. But a few long time users have. During the 2nd Bush administration, FDA standards placed on foreign made meds became more flexible to make them more competitive....unfortunately pushing the better made local meds that are held to stricter standards (supposedly checked by the FDA) lost profit and relinquished making generics to foreign manufacturers...thus leaving us with meds that do not perform as the older generics. If you have a knowledgeable friend who is a pharmacist...who will talk freely.....(meaning get past the BS they were instructed to tell the public)..they will confirm this.......Leading Pharma, Major Pharma, Actavis and perhaps others...are all now made in India.

Re: D505 (# 122) Expand Referenced Message

D505....boy are you ever misreading me! Please check my posts on this and other lorazepam related forums.......some here have spoken about lorazepam made by Leading Pharma being as effective as a "sugar pill"...they aren't saying it IS a sugar pill (well, some actually may have) but no....it just doesnt seem to be as effective as the old Watson or other manufacturers of yesteryear....before they were made in India......as far as a placebo effect...for those who have been taking benzodiazepines for many years (personally i've taken the same hefty dose for 52 years....6mg/day ..one of the lucky ones who never required more)...there is no placebo effect....i think what i said was maybe the India-made manufacturers and docs were HOPING for a placebo effect with their less effective products.......the thought of taking an older person off benzodiazepines they never asked to take is just plain cruel....... it could kill them.....and not only make them prone to the falls they fear taking the meds might cause but stopping absolutely can cause convulsions, heart attacks, depression, etc. (read the horror stories on google of people trying to withdraw)....life as the user knows it will cease and be one long grueling hardish just to maintain being alive much less earning a living or functioning in any social situation. I am hoping big pharma ignores the warnings and keeps going for the $ rather than the studies.......as i've said before..alcohol does far more damage to the brain and body, is just as addictive but because everyone seems to use it, it will never be banned.

I am currently taking the Watson brand and I am having decent results. I noticed everyone raves about the Mylan brand. Do they still make that brand?

Actually...it was the Wyeth brand that was sold to Teva....now marketed as "Actavis"...Teva kept the molds- thats why you still see 'Wyeth' imprinted on their Actavis lorazepam......this occurred back in 2013 or so according to my pharmacist.

Yes, Mylan...is the best brand...with no negative side effects. Why, since Trump took office...has the good meds...gone by the wayside? Obomacare...did not stop good meds.

I do not have any information on it being discontinued, but there might be a manufacturing shortage. Can you all please post back with more details, such as the markings on the tablets? That would enable me to research more information for you.

The FDA warns that Lorazepam carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and stomach upset.

Have you tried asking your respective pharmacies about this problem?
