I have been taking Lexapro 10mg once a day for about a year. I have had many unwanted side effects which according to my doctor there are very few side effects from Lexapro. He says it is a clean drug. Wrong. It did nothing to help me and I want off. My doctor refused to give me anti-anxiety meds to help with the withdrawals from Lexapro because once again, there are no withdrawals from Lexapro. Why do doctors lie about this. Why do pharmaceutical companies lie about this? I have read so much about people just losing it while trying to stop taking Lexapro. I have not taken it in about ten days after weaning off for about two months from 10mg to 2 mg a day. My nerves are a wreck, I am extremely irratable, and have slight headaches. This is a horrible drug with many long lasting withdrawa...

I have been on Lexapro 10mg for 4 days.. Terrible nausea, diarrhea, clenching jaw. Has anyone felt this? Also my hands are lightly shaking. Wondering when it will stop? I do not feel better yet at all. I was prescribed it for depression and major anxiety. ## HI, Kelly! Sorry that you're feeling so awful. Side effects that severe are not normal and you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. I think this just may not be the right medication for you to take. Some mild nausea and diarrhea are normal, but not severe nausea and the clenching jaw can sometimes be the sign of a severe reaction. ## I had the same reaction, even to the point of possibly being hypomanic, but I enjoyed it. my pupils dilated, sweat constantly, became shaky, felt like I had the flu....it all subsides and...

I have just started taking Lexapro...second day and wow...side effects for me! Heart burn, insomnia, tremors (shaking on inside & outside), nautious, sweats and at times arms feel like they're burning.. If anyone has had these side effects...did you change or continue with Lexapro and did the side effects calm down? ## Hello, Kiara! How are you? I'm sorry about how you're feeling. Those tremors, however, are concerning and you should speak to your doctor about them. That's not a normal side effect as listed by the FDA. The nausea, sweating, insomnia, heartburn and etc. are expected, however. Is there anything else I can help with? ## And this is a typical thing I have seen. The government wants us ALL off of "addictive" meds like benzo's but Lexapro withd...

I want to know if lexepro is effective the for symtoms of depression and anxiety and what side effects can I expect when I first start taking it? ## Yes its effective. I've been taking it for about a month and feel sooo much better. The only side effect I've experienced is loss of sexual desire ## I would rather have the feeling of well being than sex. To have both would be great but ya can't always get what you want. ## Try Cymblata..It is a new Antidepressant on the market..results are good ## well i have been taking lexapro for awhile and the first week it made me really sleepy and the no desire thing too but after some time i couldn't tell it was working anymore ## I started having panic attacks 2 yrs ago. I have been on 15mg of lexapro for 2 yrs now. It took about 3...

Has anyone has success with hemp oil for anxiety? I take lexapro, 2 mg klonipin daily, buspar 60 mg daily, and 900 mg gabapentin daily. I recently went 37 days with no anxiety. But now I've had it 7 days in a row. Idk what causes it I've been fighting it for a year now. I'm wondering if anyone's had any luck with hemp oil. I don't live in a state where marijuana is legal or I'd be tempted to try it. I feel like I'm missing out on my life. ## I had no luck with hemp oil, but we are all different, and some people swear by it. The only way to know if it will help you is by trying it. The ones I tried also tasted awful. LOL Ref: Hemp Oil Information I had a little more success with CBD oil. Is that available where you live? Have you tried keeping a diary of your ...

Hey guys. I have had health anxiety since I was about 13. Around Christmas time last year I was extremely worried about having ALS. I was so worried that I pretty much lived inside and lived In fear everyday. I have started to do school from home (which is a pain, considering I'm attempting to get into undergraduate medicine). So I went to my GP and prescribed me 5mg of lexapro then 10 after a week. I have an extreme tolerance to any tablets, panadene forte, Valium and medicines like that are barely noticeable to me. So it wasn't a surprise when the lexapro did absolutely nothing so I went back to my GP and she said because I am adult athletic size (6 ft, 70kg) that I can go straight to 20mg. After taking 20mg for a few weeks I noticed a small difference but nothing worth even s...

Hello. I took lexapro 7 years ago for about a year. My question is that I noticed shortley to getting off of it, my hair started thining. I had very thick coarse blonde hair prior. More recently with my now thin head of hair I have noticed it does not seem to grow... It's horrible!!!! I don't want to bash lexapro because I'm certain it gave me my life back and helped my anxiety more than I could hope for. But my hair??? HELP, anyone??? ## Even if it was caused by the Lexapro, it isn't likely that it would persist for so long after you've stopped taking it. Most such side effects wear off as the medication leaves your body. Learn more Lexapro details here. There are, however, other things that can cause hair loss. Have you consulted your doctor about it? It may be due...

I have been on Lexapro for two years now and I don't feel it has been doing anything positive for me. I've stayed on it because the doctors have insisted that I would be depressed without it. For the past year I have this horrible metallic taste in my mouth all the time which prevents me from enjoying any type of food or drink. I have been tested for all kinds of disorders relating to bad taste by several doctors and no one can find anything wrong. So I have concluded the bad taste must be caused by the Lexapro. Is there anyone else that has experienced a bad taste while on Lexapro? I have decided to stop taking the drug, I'm two weeks off it now and feel no different. Thanks. Greg ## Hello, Greg! How are you? Has the taste change improved, at all, yet? Most medications risk...

i was on 40mg of lexapro. they put me back to 20mg. they said 20mg is the max/ i took it for 1 yr already ## I was at one point on 20 mg of lexapro wich is the highest dose available. I was going thru a clinical depression and it also helped with nerve pain....it did wonders for me. I went thru a rough time because of spine surgery. Did your Dr make you take two 20 mg pills? Something does not sound right about that?! That is an extreme dose. ## Yes, that is correct, 20mgs is supposed to be the maximum prescribed dose, because studies haven't shown any additional benefits when it's taken in higher amounts, but doing so could cause more severe risks, and side effects. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lexapro as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, m...

I take 10 mg of Lexapro. It works better for me than the Celexa. However, I am still experiencing a groggy, heavy-headed sleepiness most of the early to late afternoon. I have been on it for 3 months. Anybody have the same experience. **I am also in the beginning of Menopause, that can also bring about the same symtons. ## I was on Paxil for 10 years, then switched to 20 mg of Lexapro for another 4 years. I hired a psychiatrist to help me taper off - he took me off way too fast. Two months. A nightmare with a capital F. Took my last dose on 7/11/12. I was nonfunctional for three weeks. Physical withdrawl symptoms were gone within 2 months. I am in therapy, have a strong support system, friends, take excellent care of myself, exercise an hour a day and don't drink. a bipolar mediacation in a liquid form ## I just starting taking amblify so I quit taking lexapro and it is also to help my back pain. I have been going through my medication and I am concerned about citalophram and it is a antidepressant should I quite taking it? ## Did you mean Abilify? It is most commonly used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Depending on the condition being treated, it is sometimes used with other mental health medications. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, weight changes, mood changes, and restlessness. Has your doctor advised you to stop your other medications? MY doc and I have recently decided to try to come off of the generic version of Lexapro, Escitalopram. I was taking 10mg of the stuff for about 10 months. So he took it down to 5mg only five days ago. I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is withdrawal symptoms/pains or if I should go to a doctor for this?! Directly under my chin, where one would say a double chin is, I have a dull achy pain. It's almost like something is putting pressure around my jawbone/chin. Has anyone experienced or heard of such a thing? Am I losing it? I'm experiencing dizziness also, which I know is a major side effect possibility of coming off certain or maybe all SSRI's. Thanks in advance if you can offer any words or advice. ## Hi, I have not experienced withdrawal, but I have experienced the c...

Hello, I'm on day 7 of 5mg of Lexapro prescribed by my doctor. I’ve been pretty fatigued before noon and nauseous in the morning as well as completely losing my appetite. I know those symptoms are normal for about 2 weeks but I think my biggest concern is I feel like I have developed some nervousness/restless energy since taking it. I'm taking the medication to help my anxiety so feeling this is a discouragement. Is this nervousness/ restlessness normal for Lexapro even at a 5mg dosage? My symptoms are certainly manageable at this point. Just wasn't sure if the nervousness was a normal side effect and if it will pass soon. ## Yes, those can be a normal side effects when starting Lexapro, even at a low dosage, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, di...

Hi, I am going through a very tough separation from my wife I still deeply love from the bottom of my heart. We have two little children, the thought of losing it all, the feeling of having failed at what is most important in my life has made me spiral into a deep depression. My doctor started with Lexapro 10mg once a day and Diazepam 5 mg twice a day. Since I was still having anxiety and panic attacks almost daily, my doctor put me on 20 mg of Lexapro once a day and 10 mg of Diazepam twice a day. I feel much better but the panic attacks and feeling of falling off a cliff are still happening daily. I don’t know what to do. Ask to increase the dosage? I am just starting to see a counselor, unfortunately getting someone approved by my health Insurance could see me took a few weeks. ...

It's a white round pill with the imprint P 20 and a line going through the middle on one side, and it's blank on the other side. ## The 20 is an indication of the dosage. I have similar pills that are a generic brand of the anti-anxiety medication Lexapro 20ml ## Hi Kelly, I just wanted to confirm that the white round pill marked with P 20 is in fact reported to be Escitalopram oxalate (20mg) - the generic for Lexapro. For verification, the manufacturer is listed as Solco Healthcare US and the pill itself carries a National Drug Code of 43547-0282-10. You can view a small image of it on the manufacturer's product page at: solcohealthcare.com/Escitalopram20-100.html If you look closely at the image, you can see P 20 above a score line on one side and blank on the back. I had a tremendously horrible up-bringing. My parents werent physical, with me, but the verbal abuse was so intense that I can no longer take it. I worry non-stop then I worry about why I am worrying about so many things. Takes me forever to fall asleep, then I get up tired. I just completed 6 weeks of Lexapro, & sure, it helps...but only just very slightly makes me feel happier. Ive had Effexor XR, Zoloft & Abilify. All of it makes me weird & extremely tired. Not a good pride to pay for the very minute feeling of happiness. And yes, I let them run their course for 3-4 weeks. I cannot handle it anymore. I cant even look for them off the street now because i cant chance a random UA at my job. I have zero self-esteem, have a hard time communicating & i just want it to go a...

I was on brand Lexapro for about eight years with great success. My pharmacy switched me to generic and I was happy to be saving the money, but within a few days, I was nauseous and dizzy, having nightmares and hot flashes, and suffering from depression again. It took me about a month to realize the cause was the generic, and I decided to pay the difference to get the brand. When I asked the pharmacist if this was common, she said those who start on the generic seem to do well, but those who switch from brand seem to have difficulties. Not too long after switching back, I was doing well again. In answer to a few other people who posted, you can not quit lexapro cold turkey, you must wean yourself off!!!! I stopped taking it for awhile by tapering off and had no issues, but after my depr...

Hi there, I am a 40 yr old woman, who started taking Lexapro about 3 to 4 weeks ago, starting on 5mg for the first 2 plus weeks, then increased it a few days ago to 10mg as directed by my Dr. My history of depression is this: I feel I have dysthymic disorder with major depression disorder tendencies. I have suffered a few bouts of severe reactive depression as a result of some considerable life stressors in the past, which then, you could say, turned into simple Major Depressive Disorder. At one of these times I took Lexapro with good effect. I think I have been depressed (often mildly) for years, but struggled through. I also have considerable anxiety, which has plagued me for 10 plus years, generally focusing on my health. Before biting the bullet and seeing a Dr this time, I was cons...

I don't normally visit these forums but I was interested in experience generic escitalopram versus Lexapro. I find the generic works better than without anything but am thinking of trying Lexapro to see if it works better - I first started with lexapro a couple of years back so I just don't remember. I am concerned there are so many comments about generic escitalopram having bad side effects - given they both have the same chemistry, it does not make sense to me ## I had been taken the generic lexapro and it just didn't work. My depression came back, I was having suicidal thoughts, my anxiety returned and was becoming very OCD again. Even though the generic brand is free, I have decided to take the brand name Lexapro. I am feeling much better now, even though I have to pay $...
