I recently found out I was pregnant. Just before I found out, I had a UTI and took Macrobid. I had a blood test at the Dr.'s office soon after I finished the prescription and my HCG levels were very high. Three days later, they were normal again, and ultrasound shows a heartbeat and everything in the right place--not ectopic. I am trying to come up with an explanation for the initial elevated HCG. My thyroid is fine. Could the Macrobid have caused the initial elevation? ## Given that you are pregnant, it is most likely that they just happened to test at the same time your body was producing a high amount of it due to pregnancy hormones, that is normal. You can learn more HCG Information here. Have you discussed it with your doctor? Are you on any other medications?

I was prescribed Macrobid 4 times a day for 14 days back in June 2015. After 10 days my heart was racing , I had a headache so bad it felt like my brain was swelling. After reading some blogs and seeing what other folks were experiencing I quit taking them on day 10. I am still having severe palpitations 3 months later and feeling my heart skipping beats. Until the Macrobid I have never had this happen. I recently was put on a 24 hour heart monitor and it only worked for 14 hours before it errored. When they downloaded the recording it showed I had over 5000 incidents in the 14 hours. I'm scheduled now for an echo cardiac ultrasound in 3 days and my physician wants to put me on a low dose beta blocker. I feel nervous about the beta-blocker so am waiting til the ultrasound. My questi...

Can naproxen 500mg be taken for pain while on macrobid 100 mg for a bladder infection? I am being treated for a uti, takng macrobid 100mg, but I'm also experiencing pain in my legs for which I would take a naproxen 500mg. ## I didn't find any problems, or interactions listed between them, but it is always best to double check to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications? ## I was taking this too and had similar pain. My doctor told me to stop taking it and prescribed a different antibiotic. I just started taking macrobic...and I started my menstrual cycle when I already had it this month. Is something wrong? ## Did you mean Macrobid, the antibiotic containing Nitrofurantoin? My 7 month old puppy seems to have a UTI. I have macro is for my own recurring UTIs. Is it safe to use for my dog? ## Hello, Troy! How are you and the pup? Yes, it is safe to use in dogs and is prescribed to them for UTIs, as well. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for your pup. If they have any type of problem with kidney function, or a kidney disease, they can't take it. Thus, it would be best to consult with your vet, first, to be safe. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Off macrobid for two weeks now still feeling very fatigued and still no appetite. Is that normal? ## Hello, Grandma! How are you feeling? Have things improved, at all? If not, you should consult your doctor, because the side effects shouldn't linger that long, after finishing your course of treatment with it. 2 weeks is about the max. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was prescribed Macrobid on Wednesday, and noticed a splotchy red rash on my arms, chest, legs, and back. I've taken just one macrobid at 5pm and at 9pm out of nowhere my left ear felt as though I was a really high elevation, not so bad in my right but it's there. I keep having to yawn to make my ears pop and I'm doing this at least twice a minute when it's really annoying and at other times when I swallow I feel them pop. Sometimes even sound gets fainter then gets clearer again. I'm flying tomorrow. I'm going to hold off taking one tomorrow morning and go straight in to see the doc but since this came out of nowhere is this the drug? ## It is really hard to say, it might be due to the medication, according to FDA reports, but it could also be due to some other issue. can i dissolve macrobid in water, or oil or fruit juice for my dog . what will it disolve it the best? ## Hi Reta, Based on my research, Macrobid (nitrofuratoin) is used in dogs typically for resistant urinary tract infections. A far as dissolving the medication goes, it would probably break down well in lemon juice or anything of the sort. I would dilute it with some water after dissolving it in the juice though, just so it doesn't taste as acidic. Post back if you have any more questions, I hope this info helps! ## I have 100mg of Macrobid my dog weighs 8 lbs. how much water should I dilute this with to be safe? ## I presume my diabetic dog has another uti I have my own macrobid capsules it may be 100mg How do I give to him do I open capsule vibe a bit with food he's diabetic ...

I took macrobid 100 mg twice within 8 hours. I thought it was three times a day, but it said two times a day. Do I need to go to the er? ## This is an antibiotic, so you can't really overdose on it, unless you are allergic to it, or would take the whole bottle. However, as listed by the NIH, you may experience more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Unless your doctor instructs otherwise, you should just continue with your regular dosing schedule and seek medical attention, if you experience any adverse reactions. How long have you been taking it?
