I have gradually gained weight since starting .25 mg of Mirapex about 4 years ago. I have rapidly gained weight since my dosage was increased by my doctor two years ago (increased to .75). Total weight gain of 40 pounds. I am not going to take this drug anymore and plan to use alternative remedies. Will I begin to lose weight when the Mirapex is completely out of my system? ## Hello, SandraD! How are you? This medication has been known to cause weight gain, according to FDA reports, as well as nausea, fever, vertigo, mania, and abnormal dreams. But yes, typically these issues go away, once someone stops taking the given medication, but that may take 6 to 8 weeks. What condition was being treated with this medication? ## Thanks for your reply. I was taking it for Restless Leg Syndrome. S...

My doctor's PA suggested that I take Mirapex for extreme leg cramps in my groin. The cramps started after I was forced to take statins to lower my cholesterol levels. The statins didn't work, but caused the extreme leg cramps. I would be left screaming for 40 minutes or more when the cramps would hit. The PA suggested trying Mirapex at .125mg up to .375mg dosage rates on an "as needed" basis. Mirapex was nothing short of a miracle. When the cramps would hit, I would take two .125mg tablets and the cramps would completely stop in about 20 minutes. I have been checked for underlying conditions (Restless leg, Parkinson's) and they don't exist. I know this treatment may be considered "off-label", but it has been a lifesaver for me. ## Since Mirapex is commonl...

Not sure if I'm reading the numbers stamped on the pill correctly but I've tried every other number search to no avail. ## I think the marking you are looking at may actually be BI BI 84 84, it is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and they list it as being a .025 Mirapex tablet, which contains the active ingredient Pramipexole, which is most commonly used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and loss of bladder control. I have a patient who has Parkinson's and doesn't tremor until after she takes the mirapex. Shouldn't it be opposite? Shouldn't it stop tremors not start them? ## Hello, Cathy! How is your patient? Unfortunately, that can be a side effect of this medication, according to the U.S. FDA, along with nausea, confusion, cough, and double vision. All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, no matter what the are intended to treat. Is she on any other medications?

I am taking Ropinerole for periodic limb movement disorder. This is the fourth medication that I have tried. I have tried Mirapex with not much effect, Gabapentin with not much effect, Levodopa with the side effect of dyskinesia but not much effect. I was hoping that medication #4 would finally be the one! I took Ropinerole for about 4 or 5 days, when I noticed that I was swallowing every 10 - 15 seconds because of excessive salivation. This excessive salivation kept me awake all night swallowing. I take other medication that have the side effect of dry mouth, so I was surprised with this opposite effect. My question is, Is the side effect of excessive salivation one that disappears with time, or is this something that I get used to, or is it something that I have to live with? ## Hi et...

I take Mirapex ER 3.75 mg for Parkinson's Disease. I have had hypersexuality since I begin taking Mirapex almost 2 years ago. I would like to know how other PD patients that have experienced hypersexuality are managing this side effect. ## I have been taking Mirapex since 2008. I stopped taking it two weeks ago due to the compulsive behaviors that they caused. If you read the tiny small print on the RX sheet, it will say.....may cause compulsive gambling, sexual, drinking, or shopping behaviors. This drug has caused my to do crazy things the last couple of years. I have lost a huge amount of money at the casino or scratch ticket, had excessive amounts of alcohol and my sexual desires were out of my mind. I was in a very dark place. Thoughts of suicide even were in my thoughts a few ...

I am on a 1.5 Mirapex daily, one pill slow release regimen for Parkinson - when is the best time to take it - morning or evening? I take it now at 9 am, get sleepy during day and peppy in the evening - when I get up in the morning I feel the best, just before taking the pill, afterward I feel "strange". At night, I sleep ok with half milligram of Tavor - a tranquilizer. Thanks for input. ## Since it's a time released medication, there isn't really a best time to take it, as long as you remember to take it at the same time each day. Thus, if it works better for you to take it at night, then there shouldn't be a problem with that, but you should double check with your doctor to be sure. This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, decreased appetit...

Itake 1.5mg mirapex 3 times a day,i take 12 sinemet 25/100 through a course of a day i want to know how do i go about getting myself off these 2 meds my life course has changed i dont need them anymore[PARKINSONS DISEASE]. ## Hi, Kevin! To avoid withdrawal and rebound effects, tapering is usually done very, very slowly. The current preferred method is to have the person start to skip doses, or stretch out the time between when they take them. Such as taking them every 10 hours, rather than every 8 and then slowly lengthening the time even further. But this method can take weeks or months. However, you should consult your doctor to see what method is safest for you. Have you consulted your doctor, yet?

I can certainly understand your concern since there's not a whole lot one can do to escape the side effects of a fused disc. However, you may want to consider approaching a physical therapist about various types of stretching and/or yoga exercises that you can do at home in order to help keep things in proper alignment w...

Gabapentin is actually an anticonvulsant that's also used to treat certain types of nerve pain and Mirapex is a dopamine agonist. You can learn more Mirapex details here and you can learn more Lyrica details here. Is that the only medication class they listed as being contraindicated? Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories are medications such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Meloxicam and others.

treatment of fibromyalgia ## Be very careful with this drug. I had no prior history of drug abuse but I got addicted to pain meds while on this for RLS. It is possible they are not connected but I believe strongly that they are. I stopped the miraprex and have not had a relapse with the pain meds yet. It's only been a month but I feel hopeful ## Mirapex contains the active ingredient Pramipexole, it isn't currently approved to treat fibromyalgia, but it is being investigated to see if it may help. i took 5.25 of Mirapax er . will i be ok? ## Information I've gathered on Mirapex ER (Pramipexole) states that the maximum recommended dose is 4.5 mg per day. The efficacy of dosages beyond 4.5 mg/day has not been established nor studied in clinical trials. I wouldn't call 5.25 a serious overdose if you are still feeling alright. You may just be more prone to experiencing a higher level of side effects for the time being; but to play it safe I'd strongly recommend paying close attention to your upcoming doses and monitoring how you feel in case some undesirable side effects eventually do happen in subsequent high doses. If you are still worried, I would also suggest contacting your doctor for instructions on how to cope with the dosage. Unfortunately there is really no way a...
