New Sub Patient - Is My Dosage Correct??

Updated

Hi All! I had been taking about 30-30mg percs a day or the equivalent in 10s and 15s depending on what I could find. I started on suboxone three weeks ago. My first week I took 1 8/2 mg strip a day. When I went in for my first follow up I explained to the doctor I wasn't feeling well (stomach pain, no energy, no desire to eat, couldn't sleep) and he felt I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms so he increased the dosage to 2 8/2 strips a day. According to him I should feel better and better every day and should start having more and more energy. I don't feel any better at all. Is it a dosage issue or is this normal? I don't have cravings for pills but I'm tired of feeling miserable every day. Any suggestions? Thank you!

How long has it been since Dr. increased your dose? Are you saying you were taking 900mg. of Perc a day? Subs kind of make me sleepy. I,m not tired when I,m working but if I was to lay down anytime of day I,ll fall asleep. I didn,t get this effect first time I was on Subs. I sometimes get a very slight headache which I didn,t experiance first time. Sorry I couldn,t be more help to you. One thing you might try is taking a short walk if your not moving around much. This may help. Let us know how your doing.

One issue that I see here is that your doctor may not be understanding exactly what you were taking and how much of it you were taking.

If you tell the doctor that you were taking Percocet, that is a combination product that contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, it is only available with a maximum of 10mgs of the narcotic Oxycodone.

But if you were taking 30mg tablets, then you could only have been taking straight Oxycodone, without Acetaminophen or anything else in it, so the doctor might not be dosing you for the right level of addiction and that is something that you need to discuss with him.

Learn more Oxycodone details here.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

Thanks. That helps a lot. They didn't have anything else in them so they were oxycodone and not percs. I know of someone that was doing about the same amount I was and they started out on more suboxone. I don't have another appointment for two weeks but I am going to call tomorrow. I have a job and need to feel better!! Thanks for the help!!

It's been two weeks on two strips and I just feel awful. I get headaches almost daily, my stomach is a mess and I don't feel like doing anything. I guess I don't know how I am supposed to feel so don't know if taking two is too much or not enough. I just know I don't feel like the doctor says I should and its been three weeks.

Maybe your allergic to the Naloxone in the strips. I,ve read about this but don,t remember the symptoms. This is not all that uncommon. Good idea to call Dr. Let us know how you make out.

Re: Want2Bbetter (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

You have to remember that you were on 30 30 msg a day! Perhaps your expectations were the suboxone replacing the oxys? No way 16 mg of suboxone will touch 900 mg of Oxy.
You are in withdrawals from those doses but at a much reduced level.
I would fight through the suboxone for 6 months to a year and then go to the Sublocade shot. There is no way you will be able to quit suboxone after the levels you were on.
I took 10 10mg’s of Methadone for years and Dr’s could believe I was still living
