Oxycodone 5mg Withdrawal?

Updated

I've been on Oxycodone for 7 years. 5 mg 2 to 3 times a day (sometimes 4 times a day on a bad pain day) I've never been without them. I had shoulder and back issues which caused a pain doctor to put me on them. My job changed 2 years ago to where I shouldn't need these meds as I don't do anything labor intensive anymore. I'm still on them. My doctor said stopping shouldn't be an issue, just taper from 3 a day to 2 then to 1 and then 1/2 but I find myself going through sweats and sickness when I take just 1 a day. Looking at the clock to see when it's been 24 hours so I can have another one. Pain aside, the sweats, running to the toilet and the creepy crawly feeling on my skin as if I am going to go insane. What should I do? Should I just stop cold turkey at this point? I'm so angry for getting addicted to these pills. I want to be off them for good. The symptoms in my body scare me. Fast heartbeat, sweats, anxiety etc...any advice is appreciated.

If you quit cold turkey your withdrawal symptoms may increase, but you will get it over with and be done with them much faster! Maybe a week for the physical symptoms, sometimes much longer for the cravings. Do yourself a favor and order some kratom online and use that for a few weeks. I have always used the tri force blend from a company called kratom one. It's a plant related to coffee but will make quoting cold turkey much faster and a whole lot more comfortable. I commend you for realizing you no longer need them and deciding to quit. I've always found a slow taper to be torturous, but that's just me. Best of luck and I know you got this!!

When I stopped cold turkey after being on pain management for years, I experienced similar symptoms. I think the rebound pain was the worst, but we are all different.

Tapering off is usually the best thing to do, but you may still experience some withdrawal symptoms, once you finally stop taking it entirely, not matter how careful you might be. I found that soaking in warm baths and sleeping with my arms elevated worked best for me.

How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

I ended up taking 2 a day again as the sweats and leg/ back pain were terrible. Now I am at square one again, taking 2 yesterday but now I am going to start the 1 a day routine again to try and get down to 1/2 a pill then nothing by next week. It's tough. The sweats and rebound pain was too much for me to take. I couldn't walk or sleep. I will continue trying to quit again. Also my nose kept running like crazy it was weird. Within an hour of taking a pill my nose stopped dripping like crazy

I have been on one type to another type meds for over 20 years, I want to try to stop and just fight the pain, I am currently on 15 mg of oxycodone, any suggestions on how to quit or taper off without too many withdrawal effects, I am currently withdrawing from cymbalta and it is horrid. Please suggestions please.

Hey bro. I've gone thru those withdrawals quite a few times. Here's the deal. If you have a week of vacation, plan ahead of time to make that week the time when you completely stop taking these pills. You're torturing yourself by only taking one pill a day. You're actually beginning the withdrawal process every single day by doing that. You might as well bite them in half and take three or four a day until it's time for you to try and completely quit. But ...... if you are already down to taking one a day you're more than halfway there. Basically once you stop taking them for 24 hours you will have three or four more days of all those crappy symptoms that you mentioned earlier, and by the end of around six or seven days that stuff is more than completely out of your system and everything else that's bothering you is only in your head. If I'm not mistaken it's completely out of your body in just a few days at the most. So it's basically three days of rotten physical pain and three or four more days of a better mental anguish. after that, you're clean bro. I've been there so many times I can't even tell you man. There's no doubt it's a rough ride but it's not a real long ride probably not as long as people make you think it is. That's all I've got bro good luck to you

Re: Ben There (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Help. I am stuck at 5mg of oxycodone/tylenol 6 X d.I have been at this dose for 10 months. I was at 20mg straight( 2012) and I did not like what it was doing to my memory, so finally last year I asked my PCP how to withdraw. I have been taking it for 5 years for neuropathy( I also take gabapentin) lymphedema, lymphedema wound, neck pain, and numerous other aches and pains. I am in a transport chair due to a bad surgery(2012)-which started all of this mess) . My PCP tapered me off by 5's. If I go past the time to take the next pill I get totally disoriented , the neuropathy kicks in big time and all heck breaks loose. I just don't feel right. My PCP said at this low dose I should not feel anything or or really notice. But I DO! I had been a runner and heavy into exercise and this is all so 360 for me.

Stopping 5 and a half mg endone a day that I have had to take for bowel, operations , so strong pain relief needed. It's been 6 months of constant use. Doc said just stop ( and I have no more, and don't need them for pain. I am having withdrawal even though it was a small dose and it was constant. And I am thin. I a feel fluey with no appetite. Chills too. Is this normal?
