I have been on ramipril for a few months now to go with my amlodipine 5mg for high blood pressure. I am mainly at night getting clogged up in the back of the throat, which makes me want to be sick along with a cough? Is it the ramipil? ## Hello, Linda! No, Ramipril hasn't been known to cause congestion, just the cough. Learn more Ramipril details here. If you're getting the cough from it, you should consult your physician, because that usually doesn't go away and will require a switch to a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for your answer I will check with my doctor about the cough, its worse at night, also I will let him know about the clogged up throat. I came off of them this week for 3 days and I felt better but my blood pressure wen...

I read and came to know that in some patients the use of Ramipril actually increases the blood pressure due to some specific action of kidney emissions (only a minority of the patients), as it is in my case. Can somebody clarify? ## No, it actually causes the opposite effect, in a small percentage of patients that have some impairment to renal function, it can cause them to absorb too much of the medication and suffer from low blood pressure (hypotension). In these cases, they have to use a much lower dosage and their BP must be regularly monitored to make sure it isn't dropping too low. This is a common issue with most blood pressure medications. ## I am 63 years old. I take Ramistar 5mg in the morning and2.5 mg in the night. My diastolic varies between 70 and 80, However it is sys...

Hi, I had a heart attack 6 months ago. A stent was fitted, and I was prescribed ramipril 5mg at night, Bisoprolol 2.5mgs daily, Aspirin, Ticagrelor 90mg twice daily, Lansoprazole 15mg daily... as well as all the usual side effects i.e dizziness, cough, muscle pain, I also have swollen ankles, feet, lower legs, which I'm told is not fluid... Has anyone else had this? ## I was prescribed Ticagrelor (Brilinta) after stent placement and after 3 months had to switch to Plavix due to massive bruseing and shortness of breath when taking it. Also had the swelling , still do. Wearing compression socks does decrease the swelling if you wear them 2-3 days in a row. Good luck to you! ## ......vorder, thank you for your reply...I will look into this ## Edema, which is the name for the swelling y...

Pill, one quarter inch thick, white, 3/8 diameter, no marking either side round, convex on top and bottom ## I'm sorry, but if there are no markings, it will be impossible to positively identify it, unless you would pay to have it lab tested. There are many pills on the market that meet this description, including over the counter products and foreign medications. where did you find it? ## my mums been taking antenenol for years along with ramipril, she has a bad leg at the moment and the doctor things it might be a blockage,so he's decided to stop the antenenol for a week to see if it helps.she's a bit concerned that something might happen to her if she stops taking it she's 74. ## If merely trying to find out if it's narcotic or pain pill, simply break down in water...

Hi, I have been taking Coveram 10/10 for a little over 2 years now. In that time I have been suffering from the following symptoms. Headache, Chronic Fatigue, Ringing in the Ears, Sleep Insomnia. I have to get up to piss 6 times a night even though I have nothing to piss. When I wake up in the morning I dry vomit for no apparent reason and I feel as if I haven't slept all night. And best of All I am sleepy all the time, I even fall asleep at my desk at work. I don't recall having these issues prior to taking the Coveram and my wife tells me I'm apparently "normal" when I forget to take the daily tablet. My current life at present is miserable. Should I discontinue taking the Coveram? No one mentioned side effects when the Coveram was prescribed nor dispensed. ## Hell...

I have been taking Ramipril for two weeks and I am wondering if weight gain is one of the side effects. Finally, after been overweight all my life, I reached my weight goal and I am worried about getting weight back with this medication. ## MedlinePlus has some great details on this medication. Some in this class have been known to cause weight gain, but it is not common, and usually is a maximum of around 10 pounds. Other side effects may include nausea, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. However, if you are taking it to treat high blood pressure, or a cardiac condition, the risk to your health is far greater, if you don't take it, as prescribed. Are you on any other medications? Congratulations on the weight loss! ## No. It is the only medication I have to take. I am ...

i have been on 12.5mg of ramipril each day for the past 2 and half years. We have now got a new doctor in our practice and he says that it is a too high dosage for me and now has put me on 10mg of ramipril and 5mg of amlodipine. Could the high dosage of rampipril caused anything to me, i have my blood pressure checked every three months and bloods done every six months or can it do anything to me in the future. ## That's actually not a really high dosage, it can go up to 20mgs a day for hypertension. Why did he feel it was too high of a dose, were your blood pressure readings low, while you were taking it? Next question, why is it only being checked every 3 months? Are you checking it yourself, at home? ## I have not had a bowel movement in almost 4 months. Have had every test known...

How long does ramipril stay in the body? ## How long does this stay in your body after you stop it? ## Hello, According to the FDA and NIH ramipril has a half life cycle of 3-16 hours and since it takes normally 4 to 6 half lifes for the drug to completely leave your body you are looking at between 12-96 hours, which a huge gap. Out of curiosity why do you need to know? Most people ask this question to determine when the earliest they can take a different medication is. If that's the reason for your question I would suggest waiting the maximum estimated half life of 96 hours before you take the conflicting medication just to be safe. Hope this answers your question.

I have been taking amitriptyline for approx 16yrs and ramipril for 4 yrs. Is it safe to take these together? My dr has said new findings have come to light about taking these two together. I took amitriptyline for help with sleeping and have been off it for a week and now average 2hrs of sleep a night. ## The only thing I can find listed by the U.S. FDA is that taking them together may result in more lowering of your blood pressure than usual, so you may need a dosage adjustment on the Ramipril. Thus, you should be aware to watch out for any symptoms such as extreme dizziness, drowsiness, shallow breathing, or fainting. Did you doctor provide you with details about the findings he is talking about? Are you on any other medications? ## Hi dr did provide details I am now seeping better al...

I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Reading the side effects of Amlodipine seems a bit scary. ## Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it has about the same risk of causing side effects as the Ramipril that you're already taking. However, the most important fact of relevance is that it's far more dangerous to let your blood pressure remain high than any possible side effects you may experience from a medication. Letting it remain high risks damage to your heart, which may be permanent, it also creates the risk of stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and...

I forgot I had taken my meds in the A.M. and took another dose about 3 hours later. I haven't felt too good since. Should I be concerned or will time take care of it? ## Doubling up could cause you to experience more side effects, such as low blood sugar, low blood pressure, nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and diarrhea, according to FDA reports. However, in most cases, doing so just once isn't dangerous, but it is always wise to double check with your doctor, or pharmacist. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse effects?

I was checking both medication shown above and notice that they are both for high blood pressure, is it possible that my symptom of dizziness are caused by combining both? ## Hi Gerry, Are you referring to Ramipril and Metoprolol? Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Ramipril and Metoprolol. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. The only interaction that exists with these medications is with food- For Metoprolol, food can enhance the levels of teh drug in your body. You should take metoprolol at the same time each day, preferably with or immediately following meals. Doing so should make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Al...

Hello, I've been on ramipril for approx 18 years. First 5 mg, then 10 mg; 5 in the a.m. & 5 in the p.m. (When they switched me to generic, 5 mg once a day was just not enough.) For the past few years, I've had a tickling cough at night, so I usually take a cough drop at bedtime so it doesn't wake me up as I doze off to sleep. Do you think this is caused by the Ramipril? Also, can ramipril cause hair loss? ## Are you on any other medications? As to your questions, yes the U.S. FDA warns that it has been known to cause both issues as side effects, in some people that take it. You may also experience dizziness, headache, increased urination, and orthostatic hypotension. Have you informed your doctor? You may need to try a different medication.
