Trouble Swallowing Cipla Sertraline

Updated

My blue 50 mg cipla sertraline pills get stuck in my throat. I can't dislodge them with water. They dissolve slowly, and feel like they are burning my throat. What is the ph of these pills?

In most cases, that means that you aren't swallowing them with enough liquid. The proper way to take tablets is to place them as far back on your tongue as possible, to the point where you almost gag, then swallow them with a mouthful of water, and make sure to finish the full 8oz glass of water afterwards.

If you are doing this, however, and are still having a problem, you should consult your doctor as it might be indicative of some other problem, such as acid reflux damage, or esophageal spasms.

The reason it doesn't dislodge with water, or other liquid, is because the pill isn't actually stuck there, it just feels like it is, due to the fact that it was dry, and has irritated your throat. It usually takes awhile for this sensation to go away, but the irritation may disappear quicker if you take an antacid, such as Tums, if your doctor approves of you using one.

I experience this almost every time I take Advil liquid gels, if I'm not careful to swallow them with a good amount of water. I understand how annoying it is, I hate it.

(I state water in this post, but it really can be any liquid, unless your doctor, or pharmacist has instructed otherwise.)

How are you feeling, now?

Re: VerFree (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I have scars in my throat and tongue and have had physical therapy for disphagia.
It's actually stuck back there. My throat swelled up the next day and I wasn't sure if it was the tiny painful pill or some fish oil I hadn't taken in a while. My throat opening is about a third normal size, and with the swelling I wondered if my air was going to be cut off. It takes about 5 minutes for the pill to dissolve if it gets stuck, and that's with 2 glasses of water plus 2 glasses of milk.
I had radiation. But the dr. Didn't want to expand my throat again because he said it could cause more scar tissue.
On the good side, I can't be intubated. . .

I feel fine and my sore throat is gone. I have stopped taking the medication and will discuss this when I see my doctor in a week.
Thank you for the antiacid suggestion. That's why I wanted to know the pH; I wasn't sure if the pill was acidic or alkaline. That's probably in the pharmacy discussion sheet that may or may not come with the bottle.
