Zoloft, Amitriptyline And Clonodine Addiction?

Updated

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 16 and started taking Zoloft. within 6 months of treatment I was taking 100mg of Zoloft, and here I am four years later still depending on it each day. Due to the high dosage, it caused me to have very very very bad side affects such as migraines and becoming restless 24/7. They then started me on Amitriptyline to help out balance the side affects and it worked perfectly. I take 25 mg of amitriptyline at night. 3 years after continuously taking the Zoloft and Amitriptyline, my psychiatrist added me onto clonodine at night to help me sleep and it works wonders, but I'm afraid I'm addicted to it, mentally. if I don't take it or accidentally miss taking it at night, I am completely restless at night to the point where I don't even sleep a minute, and I have severe anxiety that whole night, then follows the fever and puking. I mentioned this to my psychiatrist and he didn't seem to care but is it possible that after being on these meds for 4 years that my body has become so dependent on them that I cannot function without them?

Hello, Abby! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

Yes, that can happen with any medication that you take regularly for a long period of time, your body gets used to that substance being added regularly and skipping a dose or stopping abruptly may cause withdrawal symptoms.

The Clonidine is the one here that's usually the most prone to doing that very fast, it usually takes several days for the Zoloft or Amitriptyline to cause them.

Other withdrawal effects may include elevated heart rate, diarrhea and headache.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I was on Tramadol for chronic shooting pain neuropathic caused by C4,5 impingement on my spinal chord. I wanted to get off non opiods and opiods aka morphine. I was told by a 46 veteran trauma nurse to speak with my Dr about the low doses 10mg of amitriptyline and then add slllllowly!!! 50 mg Zoloft then in 6 months as quickly as it left the pain began to resurface... therefore I knew then to have another increase with Drs OK amatript to 25 mg from 10 mg and from 50mg Zoloft to now 100 mg. Drs do not know why but these two drugs create almost a 3rd synergistic affect when used together. I take NO pain meds now! If breakthrough pain I hit morphine as it won't contradict a serotonin condition as tramadol would. They say I'm experiencing depression but because of chronic pain I don't feel depressed! Lol. These two drugs are also putting my CMV into slow remission, viralologist don't know why either they just know its a good drug combo to put CMV in remission a catalyst affect. (Side affects are DONT MISS A DOSE!!! U will have electric like restless legs syndrome going up and down your buttocks down going on and coming off till use about 1-2 weeks, insomnia is indicated at first as it builds up. Same with Zoloft don't miss it either or dizziness, spinning and you will get a slamming headache too. These are withdrawal symptoms. Both are very dangerous to come off without long step downs. Know this we take meds with hope that suicidal pain will stop as in my case wanting to run into the nearest truck to stop the neuropathic shooting pain. Remember get a Dr that listens to you. IF THEY DONT LISTEN find another. For you are the one suffering. Remember these are STRONG DRUGS, NO TWO people react the same. I go to see surgeon Feb 5. I pray I may in a year be off these lower doses and need very little or nothing. They both affect memory unfortunately!

I'm on generic Zoloft and feel terrible & drained like I'm going to die. I was on it last month till a holistic doctor took me off. I didn't know anything about it till now. I told him I was depressed so he put me back on it. I'm on 25 mg and gonna take 50 on day 6. I feel like I'm being poisoned.
