Buspirone Mg Changes

Updated

Was taking buspirone 5mg for anxiety and it helped but once Ihad my prescription refilled to buspirone 15mg (rectangle split in 5s) it has had a bad effect and isnt helping at all but making me worse. I take the same amount of five at a time but its somehow effecting me different. Is it possible to have adifferent reaction to the same medication just because of the change in mg?

Hi sam,

From my own experience as well as the feedback of numerous other patients, I do believe that changing tablets, manufacturers, etc, can bring about a different reaction - even if you're taking the same medication and dosage. My stance on the matter is based on the seemingly ever-changing list of inactive ingredients (also referred to as binders/fillers) that each pill is composed of. What I've speculated is that certain binders/fillers that encompass the active ingredient(s) do not metabolize in an efficient manner that allows the active ingredient(s) to be properly absorbed; causing decreased bioavailability.

The other theory, which I haven't found much info on is that generics may not contain the same amount of active ingredients as their brand name counterparts. It's been debated that some generics may contain up to 20% more or less active ingredients, with no real way to verify this outside of having the contents analyzed by a lab.

I for one would just try to obtain the one manufacturer's brand/generic that works best for you and stick with it as long as possible, since we as patients don't know how we're going to respond to other alternatives until after we take it. So if anyone finds themselves constantly being prescribed a different tablet altogether, it may be a good idea to have the prescribing doctor specify a particular manufacturer's brand/generic on every script... that way you don't get caught off guard, as so many do nowadays.

I hope this helps!

Thats weird.i was given 5mg (in the begining.manufacture was Teva Small round pills.Worked really good. Then they up the dose to 10 mg.Strides manufacture.Rectangular shape pills.and Did not work at all.Seemed to make things worse.Need to speak to doc about this.Talk about feeling cuurrazzy...i read that different it being from a different manufacture could make different results.but making a doctor believe that is another thing.good luck
