I was in a car accident and had a head injury and my migraines started. They have been on and off all my life and started up again when I get cancer and was given chemo with facial in it. My migraines started up again and were so severe I was going to stop all chemo. They thought I was going to die and assigned me a palliative care pain management doctor. I did not die and my migraines never stopped. My pain management Dr dropped me and I can't find another Dr to prescribe anything. I took .39mgs of occasions every 4 hours and never abused them. Im in monmouth county, nj if anyone knows a Dr that still prescribes it. I have tried hundred of pain killers and nothing else works. Please help me {edited for privacy}

Your post is both ignorant and rude. On top of that, it's a blanket statement claiming that everyone here posting is a junkie that needs rehab.

How the hell do you know what level of pain I or anyone else in this forum endures?

I must assume you have the luxury of waking up and rising from bed able to move easily without any pain? You also must be able to sit for hours, stand for hours, bend and lift things, and drive in a car without any pain?

I can tell you that I cannot do any of those things without being in immense pain. I can't function normally without pain medication. Now, addiction is inevitable if you take them for durations longer than 6 months. I know. I went to rehab because I thought I was addicted and just wanted pills. Those 45 days were HELL. Not because I wanted pain medication, but because I wanted anything that could take a little bit of pain away. Nothing works! I've done everything. I'm dependent on medication.

LETS CHANGE THINGS! Trust me, I get it. I am going through what all of you are going through - Seems in New Jersey we are good to the junkie - and treating the good people with REAL chronic pain like a Junkie - ridiculous. SO, just now Gov. Christie came on the radio with his "addiction is a disease" bull-crap (it is NOT - it is a control issue/choice....) - anyway, I thought hey, if they have a page for the addict, if they want to 'help' - then they can help us too! SO, I just went to reachnj.gov - then to the blog - and i picked the "Where can I go for prescription drug help". I did an on-line anonymous chat. When the chat opened up, I was asked for a name and age. I gave a first name (not mine) and age (mine). I then asked "What is the plan for chronic pain patients now? Seems to me if you have an addiction there is a plan - what about the person who has been treated with medication successfully for years and can no longer get the medications needed? What is the plan?" of course the chat went back and fourth - I kept it professional. I was offered a list of pain clinics. I said I didn't need that - unless there was a list of clinics where I could continue my medication. I went on to say that most clinics have a long wait list AND they will not fill my prescriptions anymore - they also want to see me every 2 weeks (to rob my insurance) and inj. me full of needles which will NOT help my condition.

I was asked if I wanted the number to the drug and alcohol abuse hotline. I asked if she thought I was a drug addict. She said no. And so the banter went, all the time I stayed professional and asked - what is the plan for me? I never filled early. I did not doctor shop. Even my doctor disagrees with this, but hands are tied here - so what am I suppose to do about my pain? FINALLY - she suggested a complaint be opened and she would do that. She asked for my words - again, I said something like what is the plan for chronic pain patients who have successfully worked with doctors and used pain medication to help manage their pain? These medications were created to manage pain - and work for many who do not ABUSE them - so why are we (the non-drug addicts) suffering? What plan is in place to ensure that we, chronic pain patients, are not forgotten? To ensure we get the medication we need - as an individual (no pains are the same, no tolerances are the same - we can NOT be treated the same!) - what plan is in place to ensure we are treated with dignity and not like junkies just because these medications work for us?
something like that anyway...) I think everyone should do this. If New Jersey "cares" so much and this is the ONLY PLACE we can have our voices heard - then lets have it heard. I also did a cut and paste of each part of the conversation so I have it for my records. Would be interesting to compare notes in a couple months. Lets hope a new governor changes things a bit.....

Everyone who is posting and saying that they are so sorry is wrong. It's not the pain that doesn't make you be able to function but the ADDICTION to these meds that the candy man Drs hand out. They are just glorified drug dealers and most won't admit they are addicts but instead in their mind and in your mind you think you are not a drug addict because you go to an office to purchase your drugs. My advice is to find a good rehab facility that will detox you and will find you alternative meds that are not addictive to treat your pain. Don't be a prisoner to a pill.

Hi, if you can help me, I can help you. I'm searching for a liberal, reliable doc to prescribe these pain pills before I start my rough physical work season. (I AM in very real pain). Otherwise, I'm panicking I will lose my career this year from the pain. I am of no threat to any doc, just somebody quiet, with money, looking... I have a few sources of my own for a few things. Maybe we can talk.

Myles, I got cut near the end of 2015! One for migraines and one for chronic degenerative bone disease. I was ready to ask for an increase and was cut in half. Anyone on certain meds were cut. I had to adjust and be grateful I still got something and trained myself to wait a little longer before taking something for pain. I also use frozen wet towels in plastic on my aching spine or neck and shoulders, knees too! I also use hot, moist towels covered in plastic to ease pain. I just switch things around and try to keep living!

I have Pmr and have pain in shoulders arms neck and head for many years. My dr that prescribed opiates passed away 3 years ago and I have not been able to find a Dr to treat my pain because of the strict laws on opiates. Can you recommend a Dr who is in the Bergen, Hudson or Essex county area in NJ?

Robin,

Your best bet is to contact JSMC in Neptune. It's a teaching hospital that can refer you to a provider that will treat your condition with a multi discipline approach. I received assistance through them 4 years ago and they have treated me with medication, appropriate inj's. when needed and a short course of physical therapy. I can now function without being under a constant opiate fog and use them as a prn protocol and have never felt better. I wish this for every patient suffering from intractable pain.

Njshor, you are NOT opioidp you are opioid TOLERANT! Just like diabetics, you need it to maintain your life. I don't know if my apology response posted, it disappeared mid-writing .Literally, I feel your distress. Have your doctor to refer you to a doctor on staff will a large teaching hospital. You will find someone. If you get blessed, please don't let anyone else know. It's your life you are trying to save. Oh,write your history down and don't take crap from a doc that dismisses you and clearly doesn't care.Going thru a hospital that teaches new doctors may make your life less hellish, maybe even good.

I don't need roxicodone- I simply need RELIEF from whatever I can get for my quality of life in Central NJ or anywhere in NJ! I was prescribed a lot of medication for my VERY bad amount of illnesses and herniated discs alongside an auto immune illness. I will travel to Philadelphia for a pain doctor. I am near Toms River and my doctor is letting EVERYONE GO! This is scaring me as I am a working single parent. Please help me.

Rob, good advise! Keep your eyes and ears open and mouth shut! Even with your closest pals. Shred any paperwork from the pharmacy like boxes from patches, even the plastic sheet the patch is on. Leave no trail. The innocent doctors get forced out of business is because someone opened their mouth. It snowballs and there goes a decent, law abiding person that knew you were sincere and not abusing. My doctor has dropped patients because they had NO pain rx. in their system or an illegal drug in their system. I also think going to a regular Family Practicianer may be a route to try. The one that really knows your everyday health from flu to rashes and may not see you again for 6 months for a swollen knee! Pain treatment centers scare me just being near them. I've seen full blown, blatant drug seekers sitting in the alley talking drugs! As a medic that knew the streets, I had to see for myself. I felt safer in border towns in Mexico! There are good docs there also but you must see a doctor and you cannot cross that border without the bag being sealed and same for the plane on the American side. That was several years ago and I believe she died of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma a few years later. You can call a Mexican doc and ask to be sure. Other than the doc you saw for years as a family care, I'm not sure. Good luck and follow the rules.

I've read almost all of your stories and can feel for everyone here. I myself have 3 herniated discs and one severely bulging disc all of which have caused nerve damage. I'm in constant pain, can't sleep, move awkwardly due to discomfort, and worst of all have a hard time enjoying my life and all the things in it. I have had nerve blocks (which yielded no help), therapy and acupuncture all with minimal relief. Only thing that has helped so far has been tramadol 50 MG. I've been taking them for 4 years and it's gotten to the point where they no longer help. I'm looking for a pain management dr who will prescribe stronger opiate/opioid meds. I live in northern nj and am willing to travel a little. So if any one here has a few names of good, easy going Dr's any info would be appreciated. Thanks for reading

Hey do you still have this doc?
I just lost my benefits on Jan 1st and my PM doc who's seen me for the last two years refuses cash visits :( I have 2 herniations, a fusion and a bulging disc and literally went from 90 30mg's and 60 15mg's to a grinding halt of no pain meds :(

Hi! After reading many posts, I do not blame doctors for refusing. I have MRI's and reports and have been at same med office 14 years. One doc took over patients when first one moved out of town. Already an established patient. Due to open drug seekers, we sign an agreement for random drug panels and if it is out of line in any way, you are out! I don't blame my doctor one bit. She has to protect herself from seekers that use, abuse, sell or whatever they do, THEN BLAME THEIR DOCTOR FOR THEIR ADDICTION! B.S.!! What a crock of bull. Move to a state that has legal marijuana if need be but stop using doctors that try to help and then get kicked in the rear when they do.
