Lidoderm Patch Post Op Use

Updated

Broken thumb will not heal with new bone growth. I use a small patch on joint. Could the patch be a factor in no healing?
4 surgeries in 7 months. Still in a cast with port for bone stimulator. I put quarter size patch in port hole for pain 24/7.

Hello, Cusher! How are you?

It's very doubtful, since this is just a mild topical anesthetic, your body usually does't absorb much of it. That's why the FDA lists most of the side effects as being related to topical use, like skin irritation, redness, itching and rash.

However, it would be best to check with your doctor, to be sure. Are they aware that you're using it?

You likely shouldn't leave it in the port, when using the stimulator.

I was using for pain only but have stopped putting in port till next x-ray. I love the product and also use in on my right hand where a bone has been removed. I cut the patches. Thank you for the reply. FYI. Medicare won't cover patches anymore.

The information I got was very helpful. Thank you.
I enjoy the emails you send. Very informative.
I have no problems with lidodrem patches.
I think they are great for controlling pain. Only drawback is you gave to use tape etc to keep them in place. Also the generic brand did not work for me.

I still use lidoderm patch cut to small size on thumb that is healing slowly. I put it under the removable cast. I think it is a wonderful product for pain control. Only drawback is they do have a sticky side but can come off easily. A tegraderm clear path helps with this problem.
