Lisinopril Side Effects When Stopping

Updated

I've been taking lisinopril 20mg for more than 20 years. I have had side effects that come and go, such as coughing, lightheadedness, and dizziness. But now I have lightheadedness and dizziness all the time. Frequent urination, legs are weak, sometimes when I am walking I feel like I am going to pass out; and ED problems. I spoke with my doctor and he told me to stop taking it. I stopped taking it one week ago. My bp is 135/75. My question is how long will these side effects last before they go away? Thanks.

Hello, Luis! How are you feeling?

After being on it for so long, it may take a month, or so, before these effects go away and for you to start feeling better.

As reported by the FDA, you may also start experiencing some rebounds effects, such as elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Question. Did your doctor tell you, that you could just stop taking Lisinopril? Or did you have to be weened off of it? Another Question when you stopped taking it did you ever deal with feeling short of breath at times ? And if so how long did that last? Days, weeks? I am on 10 mg a day for the past 4 to 5 years and have cut the does in half. Thank you for any info you maybe able to give me

I am interested in any blood pressure med that I can take which has no side effects. Ît seems there are so many but drs use only a couple. There are side effects with the ones which are used but what about all other listed that drs won't use? My brother has tried four diff ones with side effects on all of them. Please help me find one which will not cause me more problems that I will need to counteract with more drugs. Also, is there anything out there which will help blood pressure naturally? I read that magnesium is helpful, also potassium? Experiences welcome, I need actual patients' results not just what's in books. Thanks for help.

I have been taking lisinopril for 15 years. During this time I had been experiencing muscle cramps, dizziness, stomachs and changes in my skin. I stopped the medication after moving to a new location away from stress. My blood pressure remained around 127/65. I went and visited my doctor after being off it for two weeks. She told me to stop it but check my blood pressure twice a week. I am still feeling side effect but noticed the cramping in my legs and muscles have started to decrease. Still suffering fro withdrawals.

I take 20mgs of Lisinopril for my blood pressure. I quit drinking soda, beer, caffeine, and changed my eating habits. Now I want to quit. I am tired of feeling light headed all of the time. Is there a method for stopping blood pressure medication?

I have high blood pressure and if not treated it will go as high as 200/115. I was on benazepril for years but it stopped working. Doc put me on losartan and it did not work. I got the lisinopril/amlodipine next. BP came down but I felt awful. After taking it the way it was prescribed for about 3 weeks I had no energy. My legs were no longer skin, muscle and bone but instead lead and iron. They weighed more than I could lift! After carefully thinking back of what I had changed in my lifestyle I realized it had to be the lisinopril/amlodipine. It is hard to feel how someone else is feeling so my Doctor doesn’t worry much about it and just wants me to keep the BP down even if it means feeling bad all the time. I have played with the dosage taking half of what is prescribed and taking it about every other day. I do not monitor my BP daily but when I do check it it is about 150/95, not the best but I’m not dead and I can usually function.
