Tramadol Hcl 50 Mg Compared To Codeine 60 Mg

Hi, I have lower back pain that generates a feeling behind my knee caps like I need to stretch them. I have been on Codeine 60 MG for several years. My doctor recently prescribed Tramadol. Is it more effective for the pain I have or is my doctor trying to get me off Codeine being it is a narcotic?
I had a heart attack two years ago and I am borderline Diabetic, is the Tramadol safe for me?

Tramadol is actually stronger than Codeine, but known to cause less sedation, constipation and respiratory depression. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

And as long as the prescribing doctor is aware of your medical conditions, it should be safe for you to take, but you may want to double check with them to alleviate your concerns.

Verwon, I appreciate your level of knowledge here and hope you help many people. Tamadol should be more potent hands down but many are looking for the sedation that you point out usually comes with codeine. I hope you keep answering these questions for people and you are doing a great service. If I ever disagree with you please know we both have somewhat different educations and experiences. I know that because we are people. ;)
