Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 56)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

I want to share my Adderall experience for the many of us who think Teva or Aurobindo or CorePharma or any other generic Adderall manufacturers are the cause of all our success and/or failure taking this medication.

My first day taking Adderall was December 4, 2015. That day marked the ending of the Ed that had been labeled lazy, undisciplined, unmotivated, a can't finish anything, irresponsibile loser since grade school. And they were right on the money with that assessment.

I now have accumulated a good piece of time and experience with generic Adderall. For the record, I have always taken generic Adderall. Never brand. Always IR. Never XR.

These are my own personal conclusions about the medication and nothing more than that. Got it?

1. The most important thing for me to get my Adderall "to work" is finding through trial and error what milligram dose of each manufacturer's generic is right for me.
My best is example is...20mg of Actavis was not equal to 20mg of Sandoz. I needed 30-35mg of Sandoz to get to the same place as 20mg of Actavis. I have taken 5 different generics of Adderall...(the usual suspects..Teva, Core, etc.
My point is eventually I was able to get to my desired Adderall effect by adjusting many, many times the milligram up or down. And eventually all of the generics "work" they just require a little adjusting of the dosage.

2. My experience outside the actual medication....the changing of lifestyle and changing habits is crucial. I cannot overstate this enough!!
When I am doing the best on Adderall my diet is mainly vegetables, fruit, nuts and water. My exercise is daily. My nights sleep is 6-8 hours.

My alcohol consumption is very low when Adderall is working well.
I eliminate almost 100% of fatty, acidic foods. No fast food ever.
I cannot overstate how important diet, exercise, sleep are in maximizing Adderall.

I don't take my dose at the same time, day after day. I Always take it one hour before or one hour after any meal.

I take all my vitamins, supplements, any thing like that right before bedtime.

Vitamin C is not a friend of Adderall.

When I realized that the more involved I got in my Adderall experience that my experience improved.

A friendly suggestion....if you are that person (I was for a few months) that takes the med the same time every day, pays no attention to what type of food, drink, drug or any other substance, lives s Sedentary lifestyle and then expects a life changing experience, it didn't happen for me either.
When I began to take some ownership of my Experience and paid more attention to my lifestyle and upgraded my diet and exercise...that's when I saw what this medication really can do and how it can take a worthless loser like I was and develop me into a confident, assertive, professional. That's how I do it.

Or any damn thing having to do with binders, inactive ingredients, why the FDA won't do anything about it

Slick37075: Using calcium carbonate (TUMS) together with amphetamines such as Adderall can increase the absorption of your medication which will increase its effects. In a short answer to your problem: DO NOT TAKE THEM TOGETHER! Hope this helps you.

Uncertainty: Do not drink "energy drinks" such as Monster and other brands. Those will give you a heart attack if you combine it with Adderall. Even if your meds aren't working, you need to be careful with what you put in your body. Please take care.

My insurance (Blue Cross, Blue Shield) recently switched me from brand name Adderall to generic. I get my prescriptions filled at Walgreens, so they fill it with this Teva generic. So this morning before taking the first generic dose I read this thread and immediately know I've made a mistake by doing so. Already, before I take it, I'm thinking it's not going to work.

So, I take my daily dose of Tums and 30 minutes later take the Teva XR25 dose with a protein drink.

Not even 30 minutes later, I can feel it kicking in. Don't know how long it will last yet, but so far it's as strong or stronger than the brand name version.

I'm having the same problem with 40mg of XR a day. Says manufactured by Actavis Elizabeth but that was acquired by Teva. Been taking it since July and always had the typical side effects of less appetite, dry mouth, alert, etc... along with the benefits. Ever since I refilled it on the 20th, nothing has been happening. No side effects, no benefits. Even drank a can of Monster to stay awake on a long drive 3 days after the refill and never felt jittery (which was extremely easy before). Even my heart rate isn't as high (using a watch with a built in heart rate monitor that tries to read every 10 minutes). Heck, even my depression and suicidal thoughts are returning which was effectively gone when we reached 40mg.

I've already complained through the FDA's medwatch site and to Teva directly. Waiting on callback from doctor before I call pharmacy because I really think something bad is in this batch/lot after verifying online the pills themselves are the right ones.

I'm going through the same thing. My 10 mg IR isn't working. At first I thought it was tolerance... until I took an extra half, then the next dose 2 @ once. So they are no good. Mine have a u27 on them. But can't find a picture. Teva had a huge recal about 9 months ago for poor quality adderral (made in 3rd world countries with bad ingredients). I'm thinking some of these bottles slipped through or they've sent another bunch of useless meds

Hi Vicki,

Make sure you tell your pharmacist and see what alternative generics are available. If the medication isn't working period, then you need to tell your doctor asap. Hope this information helps you and others who don't know what to do.

I am confused on what to do also. My Teva 30 is not working for me.

Hi Ash, I went through the same problem, the only thing that came close to Sandoz is taking half my dose of Core. The full dose made me have stomach pains and made me feel awful, but i was stuck with it for 30 days so I played with my dose. I'm prescribed 10mg twice a day. What helped was cutting my pill in half and taking just a half when I felt it stopped working, usually after 4hrs. I have also tried Teva generic, and brand. Sandoz was the best, I even called them when I noticed their pills weren't working the same. They told me their formulation had not changed, but would look into it.

Teva used to make an "authorized generic" which is a nearly identical formula to the brand name medication or even made by the original brand name producer, as opposed to a regular "generic" which I'm finding only needs to be similar to the brand name in the same way a bus a is similar to a lawnmower. "They both have a motor and some wheels so they must both do the same thing."

Teva gave up the authorized generic formula as part of the deal to buy Actavis, a company that faced regular recalls because their generic couldn't even pass as something you could legally call an Adderall knock off, even by the lax standards generic drugs are judged by.

I myself currently take 12.5mg of the TEVA brand adderall and it works great for me. I don't understand when people say one brand works better than the other . They all have the same active ingredient just a different company.

Thank you Edward!! Thankfully the pharmacist at Walgreens was kind enough to take the time to lookup a manufacturer, ask what color tablet worked best for me last, and she called the doctor and somehow got them to approve a new script for the remaining tablets. I will be taking the ones I have back to Walgreens. But I will be asking if there is a way to have those tested to see what it actually has in them. Those were scary. I felt like I was on the verge of fighting depression and my daughter fighting the migraines, stomach pain, and running on a short fuse ready to snap. Thank you again for the info, I will definitely keep this handy.

Sir/Madam...I'm sorry, are we not allowed to request or search for information for ourselves on here? Maybe I didn't make myself clear....I listed my daughters symptoms from the Adderall, which I also take, and my son. I'm sure I can give you tons of feedback on several ADHD medications. But at this particular moment, I was hoping to get information myself from this specific post. Which I did!!! Thank you very much to the individual who provided that. I apologize if my story did not fit your needs or wants. Is that not the purpose of this site? Q & A's? Did I post in the wrong spot??? Network malfunction? I'm new to this. Thanks!!

Every state has a State Medical Board. Most of them are likely located in that state's capital city.

First, file a written complaint against that doc that you got into with. Summarize the event & persuade them that this warrants further action. Tell the truth, though! You don't want to be embarrassed later if your complaint does get attention.

Most states will only accept WRITTEN complaints. Emails, submitting online...all of these methods will get your complaint put at the bottom of the stack of the ones the Board will actually read & open a file.

Envelope, stamp and mail it.

Do not hold your breath while waiting for a reply...you won't make it.

Stacy, "knocking the Monday off him"...... I love it! You may call 1-800-FDA-1088 AND TEVA at 1-888-838-2872. ext. 1007365. I got the FDA # off of the paper the pharmacy staples to the prescription bag, and I got the TEVA # in an email sent to me from consumer relations in response to my initial complaint.

I would urge everyone to SPEAK UP, call or go online, to these companies. It's the only way our complaints may make a difference. If all we do is complain to each other, nothing changes. Good Luck!

Here my doctor was making me think it was me. Went in today and tried to hand over my script that I just filled for my daughter because it's causing stomach pain, heartburn, migraines, irritability, and fatigue. Plus she has finals this week and next. Had to pick her up from school today because of how bad she felt. He told me he could not write a new script. Tell her just to keep taking them, she will get used to it....Good God it took every ounce of will power I had to keep from knocking the Monday off of him!!!

If you hear anything about where to report this, please let me know. I am starting with the insurance company.

Sir/Madam:

This forum is for the sharing of useful
facts and information and done so by doing our best to keep "the message" relevant to chatting about our own personal experience with medications, in this case, Adderall, and details about their Adderall experience.

How about the next time you say something, try to work in more relevant Adderall information, and less complaining and arguing with pharmacies.

Have some respect for what all of us are trying to do here: share useful information & experiences with Adderall.

My Nov. 2016 script was filled at CVS. I noticed that the 10 mg tab IR dextroemphetamine labeled Barr was a lot thinner & smaller than the one I use to get from Walgreens. I took two tabs right away & i noticed that in 5 minutes I was feeling so sleepy loopy & extremely fatigued. Please note I've been on this drug for 16 years for brain injury. I confronted the pharmacist telling him that what he gave me is Adderall not Dextroamphetamine sulfate. We bickered back & forth but refused to replace it. CVS has incompetent employees as they have done this to me 2x in a row. I was utterly shocked that most of them have no clue about the difference between the two. He also said that I am the only one who complained about the difference. I responded that is becoz most of their clients are not taking them themselves instead they are sold out to the street.

It's not completely ideal, but the Focus Fury 30 Neutropic is a decent mitigator if you're switching generics, end up with a super s***y refill, or run out early. Obviously it's not perfect and varies among people, but, now that my pharmacist can't seem to get any Sandoz variety lately, bouncing between the other versions has been making me incredibly irritable and distracted ALL the time. #Squirrel...

I've taken IR 10mg (x6) Sandoz for about a year after struggling through the (b372)s for 3 years. With the Sandoz I wasn't depressed, my insomnia went away, and I could function like a normal human being, and I got to retain some of my creativity and i stopped being allergic to every I ate. I'm really freaking out about them being discontinued because this (AD10) I settled for last month from CVS has been giving me headaches, taking forever to activate and then it's still really unpredictable in terms of duration and gives me gnarly headaches. In full disclosure, the Sandoz had been pretty spotty the last few months too though. Is the backlash against the junkies ruining it for us all?

If Sandoz is not still discontinued, I have had success with CVS. They will order Sandoz specially if you go in (no phone calls) with the hard copy of your script and ask nicely. It will take a few extra days to arrive.

Try not to come across as demanding or entitled. That will get you nowhere.

I have learned that even the smallest effort to build rapport with your pharmacist or any damn pharmacist does not go unnoticed by that pharmacist and your chances of special orders and the like increase dramatically.

If Teva and CorePharma haven't worked, one option is Aurobindo which is usually what almost all CVS' have on hand as their generic Adderall.

I have had much success with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Aurobindo is tricky though regarding dosage. 25mg of Core & Teva worked for me, but with Aurobindo I need 30mg IR.
Try not to read too much into the hate for Aurobindo you'll see on chats and forums.
I've taken generic Adderall long enough to realize that everyone hates every generic at some point.

I was that guy early on. Worried that only one specific generic would work for me and if I couldn't find it, I was doomed to hell for the next month.

For me, minor adjustments in dosage has changed my opinion on generic Adderall. Positively changed!

They all work for me once I find the correct dose through trial & error.
Up or down 5mg or even less should show immediate results. Although once, oddly enough with Sandoz, my correct dose was 10mg more than my doc prescribed...so I had to let Sandoz go.

Be diligent about taking it one hour before or after food intake. Makes a big difference in absorption & retention.
