Drinking On Lexapro (Top voted first)

Updated

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great.

I have been on Lexapro for 3 years. I drink about twice a week and everything seems to be fine. I have noticed that if you drink heavly for a few nights in a row you will feel a slight depression. Just don't over do it. I was worried at first also.

I have been on Lexapro for about 3 years and drink socially most weekends and have not had any problems. If anything it has given me the confidence to drink again without the worry of having a panic attack whilst out and about with my friends.
I do however try and stay away from having all night benders as I do seem to pull up VERY hungover and the medication seems to loose its effect which in some people cases may be dangerous.
My advice is to play it safe and whilst enjoying a social drink try and limit the intake of alcohol and you will give yourself the best chance of feeling 'normal' again.
Lexapro has also enabled me to get back into things like playing sport and camping in remote locations which was hard for me before taking the medication.

I've been on Lexapro for nearlyt 4 months and have always been quite a big social drinker and never noticed any thing different in regards to post drinking lows or getting intoxicated quicker. But in the past few months have noticed my desire for drinking lessen, not sure if there is a realtion to being on the drug...?? But my doctor said relatively safe to drink on this drug

I am on 10mg. I drink every other day. And I have noticed sometimes my anxiety and panic attacks are pretty bad. But I sometimes have this weird feeling in my head. Anyone else get that? = (

I was on 10-20mg of lexapro for almost three years, and I drank A LOT. Over time, I started to become angry, wanting to fight everyone when I was drunk, and I wasn't like that before. The combination probably isn't the best, unless you can drink a minimal amount of alcohol.

I notice if I have a wine, I feel okay. If I have cocktails, I really feel moody and irritable the next day. I'm glad that I found this page. I feel like I'm losing it sometimes.

I am a heavy social drinker and noticed that i was much more aggressive and angry while drinking on lexapro. I was fine drinking on prozac which i was taking for seceral months but then my doc added lexapro to my perscription. one night I pissed myself, lost my phone, and showed up with no shirt on while drinking on it. probably not the best idea to drink on it.

On my fourth day of taking 5 mg of lexapro I had a few drinks with friends. I felt ok unil later that night, my heart started racing, my stomach hurt and I felt faint. I drank a lot of water and took a hot bath which helped me fall asleep. I'm now rethinking taking this medication.

I've been on Lexapro for about a year. I'm a college student so I drink on a fairly regular basis and I see no difference between me and my friends after drinking the same amount. I don't think it's an issue! :)

I have been on 20MG for about a year now. I've had a few different experiences while on it that might be helpful. If you take the med first thing in the morning it seems ok to have even several drinks in the evening. If you overdue it though (taking into consideration your general tolerance for alcohol) the effects of the alcohol seem to be a bit more elevated (even taking it in the morning and drinking at night). I've noticed depression the day after overdoing it. I will tell you that popping Lexapro followed by even light/moderate drinking right after is problematic. I've accidentally missed my morning dose, taken it at night followed by a few drinks and it's no bueno. IMO I would recommend either not drinking shortly after taking it or perhaps missing a dose if you know that you are going to be drinking.

I forgot and ordered a drink, and spent the next few hours vomiting, with a splitting migraine. So clearly I am one of those who cannot drink while on Lexapro.

Combining alcohol with SSRI's can enhance the side effects, making you experience them more intently and experience more of them.

I've been on Lexapro for around 8 years .. I find that I will be fine then all of a sudden I will be very drunk very quickly. I also black out a lot when I drink ... no matter how much I drink I will very rarely remember the end of a night. It also makes me feel really down for quite a few days afterwards.

I do not recommend drinking on Lexapro and if you do only have 1 or 2 drinks.

I have been on 20 mg of lexapro for several years. I can have 3-4 glasses of wine every night (which I don't do every week lol) and feel just fine! No anger, no anxiety, no side effects, no hangover the next day. No worries!

I am taking cipralex which is the same as lexapro In think. Escitalopram oxalate 10 mg... Anyway... Have been reading alot and trying to figure out if its worth it. But as far as the drinking goes either everyone is afraid to admit how much they drink or I am what you call a true heavy drinker. I have been depressed from a bad breakup for six months. I finally decided to try meds to help with depression and anxiety. I have only been taking for a few days but have been drinking twelve plus beers every night like I always do. I acctually feel better even tho they say it wont work that quick... But also seem to think the drinking wont make u sick if you are used to it. Its more that it can if you havent for a while... And my guess they dont want u to because its a depressent... Which can counter act and in severe cases make you more likely to contemplate suicidal thoughts especially if you have had them before. That being said who hasnt.... We all have! We just dont all admit it.... Just use caution and confide in a friend that u can call whenever if u feel like ur mood swings off the chart... Im banking that Ill be able to tell if that happens. Good luck :)

I guess I'm a total anomaly. I've been on Lexapro for 9 years. I drink wine every day, and have had no problems. If I drink too much wine, the wine itself is a problem. Too much fear in so many of the replies. Know yourself and use your own judgement.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT! I am on lexapro for 2 and a half weeks now I drank at the weekend my normal amount ..even less and I woke up not remembering anything from the night before I was found by a friend luckily who brought me home.. I did awful things on it was agressive I got carried out of the night club and the list goes on.. my anxiety and depression worsened after this! Dont do it!

I have only been on Lexapro for a couple weeks, and am very interested in this topic. The first few days on it, I felt GREAT! Then I started drinking not realizing it was a no-no. Now, I am feeling more blue.

The only problem is that I am not sure if it is psychosomatic or not. I think that I am going to try my best not to drink on it, just because I was so happy at first and I don't really the calories----beach wedding soon :-)

Honestly, your best bet is to just try it, don't like? Stop.

I was lexapro for over two years and has been off for 5 months. I do drink occasionally but keep in mind that drinking one drink is like drinking 3 on lexapro. No doctor will tell you it is ok to drink while being on any medication. Just drink with caution. :)
