Switch From Generic ( Clonazepam ) To ( Klonopin ) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been prescribed clonazepam 1mg twice a day for abut 2 years now , and I heard that the brand name ( klonopin ) works much better because it s stronger and I heard it s more expensive too but if it worth it why not ... My question is : Can I switch from the generic ( clonazepam ) to the brand name ( klonopin ) with the same prescription that has clonazepam on it without a problem ? Will the pharmacy give me the klonopin even if my prescription says clonazepam ? I know it s just a difference between generic and the brand name but I m not sure if it s possible,
Thank you

Hi, Ray! How are you doing?

There can be variations from the generic to the name brand, but they are only slight, so it isn't likely that it would be much stronger, unless you're very sensitive to medications.

Do you have insurance?

If so, the only way you can get the name brand is if your doctor writes the prescription that way and doesn't allow substitutions.

Learn more Klonopin details here.

This medication has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.

I had the opposite problem; because of the policy of the UK NHS to dispense the cheapest available generic, RIVOTRIL (clonazepam by Roche, the name 'Klonopin' is used in only one country) was withdrawn a few months ago due to sales dropping almost to zero; the Auden McKenzie generic I am now dispensed contains excipients which seem to block the uptake of the API, rendering them much less effective than Rivotril, which I used to be prescribed by brand. As for your prescription, if it says 'clonazepam' then no, you will NOT be dispensed the name brand but a generic. Only if the brand is specified will you be given the Roche product. It is also licensed to Galenika of Serbia and Abbott India, so their Rivotril-branded tablets are identical in every way to the Roche original Rivotril. Ask your doctor to prescribe by brand and then you WILL receive the Roche brand.
