The Manufacturer Changed More Than The Name, In My Opinion! (Top voted first)

Updated

I was given some samples by my doctor of Brintellix, and all I can say is that it worked beautifully. I have tried virtually every other antidepressant on the market, and they all made me violently ill. This was the first medication that I tolerated very well, and my mood improved dramatically from the very first pill- I was elated! Then, when I received the prescription, it came under the name Trintellix. On the net, it says that Trintellix is the rebranded name for Brintellix and the same brand-name medication. To my surprise, Trintellix didn't work nearly as well (if not at all). Has anyone had this experience? I am so upset, I don't know what to do. I personally believe that the manufacturer changed the formula, but I have no evidence, other than my experience, to prove this. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I seemed to have this issue, too. I tried the Brintellix 10 mg samples and felt a great improvement and then I was prescribed and had the 10 mg prescription filled and noticed a difference. I still felt better but not as good. I had been taking Brintellix for about 5 months with my filled prescription and my friend changed from Brintellix to a different prescription and gave me three sample bottles. I decided to use those and again I was in a better mood. Back on my regular prescription and decreased mood. The prescriptions were all Brintellix, though.

Just filled my prescription again and it is in the new Trintellex bottle. 1st dose today and I have the same increased mood as the samples. Go figure. Thinking it must be a batch issue. I am going to talk to my prescribing doc about this. Not sure what else to do.

Hello, Ann! How are you doing? Has there been any change?

That can happen with antidepressants, there can be a boost, which then tapers off for awhile, someone may also experience more side effects for several weeks, until things level out. However, it doesn't mean that anything has changed about the medication they are taking.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes.

There is also a chance that the medication doesn't work for you and you may need to try something else.

Have you informed your prescriber of the problem?
