Took 1st White Pill Instead Of Last Blue Pill (Top voted first)

Updated

A couple of weeks ago, I took my 1st white pill instead of last blue pill on accident. the week before this, I had a 3 day SUPER light period, almost spotting-like. I took the last blue pill the next day, and the last white pill the day after that. That same day, I started cramping and I bled for 7 days straight, and it looked like an actual normal period, not just spotting. I'm guessing this came about from taking the pills out of order. My "period" ended on Wednesday of last week. Just 2 days ago (Saturday), I started to have light spotting again when going to the bathroom. Doctor told me to use extra protection if my fiancé and I are active when this pill mix up happened, but we haven't even done anything at all since it has happened, I don't want a pregnancy scare. So what could all of this bleeding be from? I find it hard to believe it's all from that one little pill mix up, the blue and white pills aren't THAT different. The pill mix-up happened at the end of my 2nd pack, and I'm not on my 3rd pack. My 1st month of taking this was fine, started my period on time, it lasted 3 days and was really light. Had random breakthrough bleeding here and there, so I'm not sure why I'm bleeding so much now. Please help! :)

Hello, Kristen! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

Bleeding like this can be normal for the first 3 months, while your body is getting used to the hormones in the oral contraceptives and you likely threw things off even more, by mixing up your pills. Thus, it may take a few months, before things settle back down and return to normal.

However, if it gets very heavy, then you should have it checked out by your doctor.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Yes, very helpful, thank you!

So, if I go by my 3 day light period I had before this pill mix up, I SHOULD be starting my period today, but I haven't. Since I mixed the pills up and threw myself into a 7 day regular period a week later, does that mean I altered my cycle and I'll start my next period next week?

By the way, after the pill mix up, my fiancé and I did not have any unprotected intercourse, just to be safe. So I don't believe all of the spotting and long period I had is due to pregnancy, just my body's anger of mixing up those pills. Since there's 24 blue active pills, then 2 white active pills, just a lower dose, I'm sure taking a lower does one day, then the regular dose the next, then the last low dose the day after that threw my body for a loop. If we have unprotected intercourse a few days before the initial mix up, but not after, is there a high chance I could be pregnant, or was I still protected?

It's hard to say when you will get it, after such an error. It depends on when the hormones in your body balance back out.

And yes, you would have still been protected, at that time.

Are there any other questions or concerns?
