Re: James (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

I had been noticing good from Teva’s generic Adderall IR

While they (Teva Adderall 20MG IR) seemed to be working, this month (November)
and last month I noticed much less efficacy,

Also, the tablets actually appeared -slightly- smaller in size, and I also noticed
that the “sweet like sugar” flavor isn’t as pronounced...almost as if they took it out..

Anyone notice these two items?

TEVA pharmaceuticals issued a voluntary recall for certain lots of their generic Adderall IR on May 22, 2020

Citing the possibility bottles may contain tablets of mixed strengths, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA is voluntarily recalling 100-count bottles of dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate tablets (mixed amphetamine salts product). The recall was included in the June 10, 2020, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The following products, distributed throughout the United States and in Puerto Rico, were included in the recall:

5-mg dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate tablets in 100-count bottles (NDC 0555-0971-02) from lot 42614718 (Exp. 2/21);

15-mg dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate tablets in 100-count bottles (NDC 0555-0777-02) from lot 42617008 (Exp. 10/21);

20-mg dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate tablets in 100-count bottles (NDC 0555-0973-02) from lot 42617891 (Exp. 1/22).

Teva Pharmaceuticals initiated the recalls May 22, 2020.

The FDA designated the recalls Class II on June 4, 2020, signaling use of the tablets could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. A remote possibility of serious harm also exists.

Hello. I take Adderall IR (generic Sandoz) and the medication only seems to last 1 to 2 hours. I hear that XR lasts longer but it comes with more crashes or bad effects, is this true? Has anyone had the medication last a short time and then start lasting longer?

Re: Steve (# 54) Expand Referenced Message

I have been on the same dosage of adderall for 10 or so years, i've seen this happen in cycles, back in the day sandoz actually worked and the name brand xrs were like a godsend.

I take 90mg adderall a day and I noticed this in jul/aug of 2018. so for a couple years things have been good and I used to take the 30s but i felt them basically doing nothing last month, as my brain is so foggy it is taking me forever to even type this, but my pharmacy randomly gave me something different than what i was taking before... which blanks me right now, I think they were peach oval shaped. so my pharmacy said something about them being a different manufacturer but it's the same pill and instead was given these 30mg by mallinckrodt. NDC: 00406-8894.

Without even taking what she had said into consideration I had noticed over the past couple days I was really tired and just not... me. Something was off with those.

So this month I had my doctor change the method of dosing from 30mg to 15mgs to something the pharmacy had in stock that weren't those horrible mallinckrodt or w/e. and instead i got these Amphetamine + Dextroamphetamine pills (imprinted: b 777 1 5) which are the 15mg generic tevas. The point of how ineffective these are is quite unexplainable, and I actually feel my life going downhill because of this as I am not able to stay awake for certain periods of time, i am constantly tired and forgetting things, not thinking clearly. Finding this thread is kind of a bless and a curse. I literally feel useless with these little s***s.

Summary:
the 30mg IR generic Mallinckrodt suck
the 15mg IR generic Teva suck.

People, you need to list the brand that you bought and the strength. Also list whether it is ir or xr. This is the only way others will know the brands to steer clear of. Let the companies stock drop...it is all the understand anyway...profit.
1. TEVA = overall, totally useless. I tried the 10mg ir and then the 15 ir. You will feel worse than if you hadn't taken anything.

Re: lisa (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

So you think the brand name Adderall is a lot better than the generic? I certainly will ask my Dr to write my prescription for the brand name if that's the case because the generic brand Teva just doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to!!

Re: Stella (# 50) Expand Referenced Message

What concerns me concerning generic meds:

When a generic firm decides to file an application to the FDA for manufacturing a medication, they are required to conduct "tests" to confirm that the bioavailability is commensurate with the brand name product.

They must also show that their product's bioequivalency is satisfactory with FDA standards.

My concerns:

The "tests" are conducted solely by the generic firm.

The process and results are not made public.

One wonders if there is appropriate external and internal validity.

Also concerning that we the public, are not able to view the data, and more importantly, the specific --process-- in which testing was conducted.

Then after their product is approved, FDA oversight to ensure quality standards is very poor.

You would need to be poignantly naïve to think that the FDA is available to oversee these, mostly, Third World country firms in an appropriate way.

This is simply profoundly concerning to me.

My best guess, based on my experience with generic Adderall IR is that if you feel it's "not working" almost always the dosage needs a slight adjustment up or down. Try increasing it to 25mg or down to 15mg.

I also have felt that feeling of this refill is "worthless" and every time a minor dose adjustment fixed everything.

My experience with Teva/Barr, Sandoz, Actavis, Aurobindo, CorePharma & Evekeo is that all of these generic IR Adderall required a different dose to achieve maximum efficacy for me.

Try it. It works.

What stands out to me about your post is you decreased your dose from 30mg down to 20mg. I'm guessing you take at least 2 20mg IR tablets per day?

The effect or potency
(as some say) of XR is also diluted somewhat...The controlled release of XR ideally releases 30mg of Adderall, over a period of many hours. (8-12)

The 20mg IR is immediately released (what %, I don't know), but it's designed release is to give me all it's active ingredient between 4-6 hours per dose for me.

Way more active ingredient in my system in a much shorter span of time equals the boost I need to solve problems better, multi-task better...you get the idea.

So...naturally you should feel different (worse for you) because you are taking different amounts of Adderall now than before & those amounts are being released at different times in your system than before.

I have no personal experience with XR.
I only use IR Adderall...and for many reasons.
Gives me control to alter my dose up or down a few milligrams which helps me stay on top of my ideal dose. And yes...my right dose changes every few weeks.
IR gives me psychological relief because when it kicks in, I feel it and then I know it's working, so I can move forward with my day.

My best guess for your situation and the symptoms you described requires only a minor adjustment in milligrams and/or frequency.
I'm no doc, so ask yours. But this has worked for me in my Adderall experience.

My best guess is that your dosage is off slightly.
I have taken Immediate Release since day 1.
One thing that I've recognized in the genetics is that tweaking the dose until you get it right is a must. Trial & error is the only way to truly understand each different generic.
If I had a dollar for every time I said "placebo" or "sugar pill" or "brand x absolutely F'ing sucks."
In my experience upping and downing dosage, I was surprised even amazed at how as little as 2.5mgs or 5mgs up or down can make a HUGE difference in your Adderalls' daily performance.
Play with it. Break them in 1/2, then 1/4's so you can be more accurate with your number. It matters.

Hi- my name is Daniel, and I've been taking Adderall for about 9 years. I've taken the IR form for about 8 1/2 of those years. I took a break from the medication for a few months, then went to my psychiatrist at the VA hospital for a new prescription. She prescribed the XR capsules this time, first 20 mg, two 10mg capsules daily, then upped it to 30mg- two 15 mg capsules in the morning. I had always wanted the XR, but until now the VA didn't carry it, and it was ridiculously expensive on the outside- even for the generic. Well, I'll tell you what I found. The XR is much, much stronger, and lasts for a good ten to 12 hours for me, with the two caps being taken in the morning. If you like the concentration, focus, and mood enhancement of the IR, you'll probably like the XR better. It takes slightly longer to kick in than the IR, but not much longer. Put it this way- I take them with my coffee in the morning, and by the time I've finished it, the medication has already begun working for a good ten minutes at least. Any questions, or something you'd like me to answer, please let me know! - Daniel Hill

So I've been on the generic 30 mg Adderall (Salts) for the past month and I'm debating whether or not to ask to switch to the XR. I take it at 7 A.M and It usually kicks in within 20 minutes which is awesome. The bad part is it only lasts till about noon and than I get a little irritable. I tried taking another pill in the afternoon and that does help but I can only get 30 pills every 30 days here in NV, I guess the laws are extremely strict. It would be great if my doc would prescribe me 60 pills so I can take 2 a day but I doubt that's even possible. Any suggestions on switching to the XR form? How long does it take to kick in and how long does it usually last?

You say you were switched from Adderall XR 30mg to to Adderall 20mg (BTW: the "IR" designation is not needed, nor is it recognized by any professional or regulatory body--hence it is incorrect; just use Adderall to refer to the non-extended release formulation, and Adderall XR to refer to the extended release formulation), but you have not provided a dosing regimen. The maximum # of times Adderall XR should be administered in one day is usually two, preferably one. I prescribe on average 30mg of the XR to be taken at 7AM, or when first waking, followed by a second dose around noon to 2PM. That is a dose I have found most often efficacious in adult males. If I were to switch them to the non-extended release form, the I would lower the total mass of the salts to 15mg or 20mg, TID - q 8AM, noon, 4:00PM.

What you left out is critical to understanding the issue--did your physician have you on 30mg of the extended release form once or twice a day? When they switched you to Adderall 20mg, how many times a day was that prescribed to be administered?

While I have seen the phenomenon of selective response between brand vs. generic, it has never held water as tenable. To suggest that there is a difference is to spit in the face of chemistry, biology, and basic logic. Now I do know that there are differences when one make is not holding up their end of the bargain (rare), or when the delivery mechanism used in the brand is not the same as in the generic. For instance, if one maker comes up with a way to deliver medication over 12 hours and it relies on progressive dissolution of the API's (think of a tablet that under it's outer coating, has a layer of API('s), then a slow dissolving inert layer, followed by a layer of the API, etc. Now consider another maker has come up with a way to delivery medication over 12 hours, but it uses an osmotic pump or similar mechanism. In MOST people, there will be no noticeable difference, and in the eyes of the regulators, there is no difference. But for a group of individuals, for various reasons, they will notice the difference. Perhaps some have more acidic stomachs causing an increased amount of the dissolution based technology to be wiped out early on. I have seen patients who respond better to generics than to the brand (particularly with psychotropics), so to sum this up, generic doesn't mean a great deal of expense hasn't been invested (the lower cost is due to the fact that the drug (API) in question has been deemed acceptable by the FDA, and thus the generic manufacturer does not need to invest time & expense in 1) new compound discovery 2) drug trials (familiar with a drug being in say "Phase Two trials,"
3) advertising, and other factors. So, when I say that those patients who claim a difference are essentially spitting in the face of chemistry, biology, etc., I mean that there is no human who has yet been encountered who, when given "x"mg of drug "y" in the "IR" or form lacking extended/controlled release mechanisms, made by the original patent holder (brand), and then the experiment repeated with all the variables the same, except drug "y" was manufactured by generic rival, could any person thus encountered tell the difference. These are discrete compounds, your body cannot tell whether Endo made the oxycodone HCl/APAP or whether it was Roxane.
