Hi as everyone who takes brand name Klonopin knows its on backorder. I have try the generic it don't work for me.. But that is at the same mg as the Brand. I was wondering if anyone has try the generic at a higher mg? And if so did it work like the brand name?

5-2018: CVS told me for my refill of Clonazepam 1.0 mg tablets, which I've had a prescription for many months- are on Backorder for 2 weeks! Why is this happening? Is there an FDA change or is it insurance companies? Please advise. Thank you.

I was told the same thing, just make sure you call your pharmacy and tell them to order it for you. If they don't have any active orders for klonopin, they may not receive any of it.

My pharmacist said he could get it for me by Monday, but from what he was saying, it sounded like they hadn't planned to order any of it otherwise. Why would they when they have so much generic laying around and nobody requesting brand name? They'll keep filling generic for people until they ask for brand again.

I just spoke to a Genetech representative and they did in fact start shipping yesterday, October 28th to wholesalers for the named brand Klonopin. I was told that it may take a few days for the wholesalers to ship it to the distributors and that I can expect to have my rx by the end of this week or no later then the first part of next week. October 31st to Nov 3rd or 4th, that is what I was just told.

All strengths 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg tablets have been shipped from Genetech.

Hi there I just posted this to another thread, but have you tried the Teva brand? The indgredients are the most similar to brand name Klonopin, povidone and colorants being the only differences (as well as the order of ingredients, i.e., the first ingredient is the highest amount in the pill).

I'm taking Mylan right now and it's terrible. The ingredients, not surprisingly, have a lot of differences from brand Klonopin.

Reference: dailymed.nlm.nih.Gov. It's a part of the U.S. Library of Medicine and they keep all info sheets on every prescription drug for you to read. Ingredients are always in the first paragraph of the info sheet, "description".

Hope this helps!

Hi, as a former Pharmacy Technician for 29 years, I can honestly tell you that the "generic" companies do not put in the entire amount of ingredients needed, this saves them money and makes the generic less effective, but cost effective for insurance companies. So it's a catch 22, your charged more for brand and it works, you pay less for generic and aren't getting the full effect, hence back to the doctors for other medication. The Teva brand from Cvs (omg never go there) at least in the west coast, is no where as effective as the brand. Just my 2 cents

Hi Sharon,

Sorry to hear that the generic didn't end up working for you. I did want to point something out though that may be the reasoning as to why it's not as effective as the brand name (even at the same milligrams).

I think it really comes down to the "inactive/non-medicinal" ingredients that they also put into these tablets. These ingredients are known to vary between brands and generics alike, but I have also heard that companies will often use cheaper binders and fillers in their generic versions to help cut costs. What the drug companies haven't realized yet is that certain binders/fillers do alter the bioavailability of the actual active ingredient as well (often hindering absorption). This is something that has been documented and proven.

Hopefully that insight helps explain why it may not work as well as the brand name or even other generic options for that matter. Although, in the end I guess the effects all come down to personal preference. Some people just don't like taking strong medications and for that reason may prefer certain manufacturers over others.
