I Need Help With Codiene Withdrawal (Top voted first)

Updated

Ok so, a few years back I was on vicodin. They prescribed me suboxone. And after a yr of that I didn't get to the doctor in time and they switched doctors and it was just a hot mess. So I withdrew off of it. And I was not working at the time. It was seriously the worst 3 weeks of my life. So now fast forward to 3 months ago. I hurt my back playing volley ball, my brother offered me one of his vicodin. I thought since I had been off of it, it would be fine. And it was. But every month or so, I'd ask him for one. That was ok in my mind. But then every month turned into every week.. every week turned into every other couple of days... and now for maybe 2 months now I've been on vicodin 5 to 6 times a day. And I want to detox. Now my brother only has dilaudid. So he said he will give me a piece of it every day. And shorten it... until I'm completely off of it. Is this a good idea? And now I'm working, how am I supposed to get through going to work and all this. I'm just si emotional aND so frustrated with myself. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, Cathy! How are you? I'm very sorry about what you're going through.

A slow taper should prevent the worst of the withdrawal effects, so it really shouldn't affect your work.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

However, the best and safest thing to do would be to get medical help. Have you informed your doctor?

No I don't want to go thay route again. They put me on suboxone last time. And it was probably the worst thing thing I went though detoxing from it. I was clean for some time. And one small injury and it's like a replay. I don't want to have to go through any of that again. I have been weening myself off. I'm only at one a day. And soon it'll be half a day. But the want for it is, is definitely very difficult. I just wish I could stop and it would be all over. I was wondering if there is anything I can take that may not be addictive to help me get through this? Thanks for your advice/help.

I replied but it didn't show that I replied, so if there's two I'm sorry ab9ut that. And thank you for asking. I am at only one vicodin a day noe thankfully. I don't want to go to the doctors, the last time I went there they put me on suboxone and the detox off of that way probably one of the worst things I've gone through in my life. I am at only one a day. I'm trying to ween myswlf off. But the want of it, is very difficult. Soon in a few days I'll be at a half. I just wish there was something that could take the edge off. And make me not just think about it day and night. I've pushed myself to not take anything till about 4 pm. Every day. But that's all I ever think about. I know I've done before and I can do it again. I guess I just wish I dodnt put myself in this position again. And I just was hoping there was something non addictive that could help with the side effects from it. Thanks for your advice/help.
