Lyrica And Alcohol (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

You are not supposed to drink while on Lyrica. I made the big mistake of doing that. I took my dose in the morning and then got invited by some friends to go out. I do not usually drink, but started drinking around 9:30 pm. I was found in an alley behind a restaurant at 4 am. The last thing I remember was last call at 2am. I am only posting this to give a VERY strong warning not to drink while on this medication. Luckily I am OK and still alive. It is a horrible feeling to not know what happened in those 2 hours. Please do not drink while on Lyrica.

Thank you SO much for posting this!! I did not know Lyrica depletes Vitamin D. Vitamin D also helps maintain serotonin levels an I have begun feeling depressed. I am on a large dose of the drug... 450 mgs. I'll get my Vitamin D levels checked and start taking an extra Vitamin D supplement.

I take 200mg twice daily for nerve pain in my legs after a back injury. I haven't had any adverse side effects, even while drinking, but my brother was taking a similar drug, gabapentin (I think that is how it is spelled), and suffered side effects very similar to what you are describing. It progressed to severe depression and suicide attempts. All of this over the course of 2 to 2-1/2 years. I have heard of these occurring with Lyrica as well. I'm not trying to scare you, but I thought I'd pass the information along just in case you notice anything getting worse. Once off the gabapentin, my brother was fine, aside from nerve pain that his doctor is now treating with Norco. Not the best thing in the world, seeing as its a narcotic, but it is working for now.

I also have been drinking pretty regularly while on lyrica, and black out almost every time i do. I've woken up standing in the middle of my stair case, like i just fell asleep while going upstairs. Last night i woke up at 4a,leaning against my bed standing up with the light on. I have no recollection of leaning up against my bed, but there i was. Last thing i remember was thinking of going to bed around 1130. Sleeping standing up is a new thing for me. It's like my brain will just randomly shut down, completely. I really need to stop drinking while taking lyrica, which i am going to do now that I've put 2 and 2 together. I just thought i had developed narcolepsy lol.

I have been on lyrica for more than 10 years now. 150mg a day I have never had a blackout. I drink beer everyday and have had no side effects. So it really Sounds like its different for everyone to me.and I most definately think it is the Best option for nerve pain.

As I said before I'm down now to 2 X 75mg Lyrica a day now , at the weekends I have 2 to 3 Beers and that does me , I don't get great pain relief from the Lyrica , but I find its better than nothing it relaxes me that little bit and the few Beers I drink helps even more. I believe it concentrate the affects of Alcohol , so I suppose I'm getting the affect of a lot more Beer than 1.5 litres. I believe with me its not really having the drink any more , but the fact that I can tell myself I'm a beer drinker that really matters.

My Fiancé has been taking Lyrica (300mg 2x a day) for almost 5 years now due to a brachial plexus injury after a serious car accident. He has noticed his speech is becoming more jumbled. He has slight Memory loss, also due to injury. He sweats profusely, a lot more then he says he used too, and he sleep talks quite a bit at nighttime. I have noticed his mental state while drinking, only after a few, is quite poor. Also his ability to stay awake is quite bad. He seems to have a false sense of reality after when he has been drinking, a lot more then just a really drunk person would, he isn't a small man, by that I mean he's an average sized man, so reacting this way to alcohol when I have had the same amount and am fine, is a worry. I would hate for him to hurt himself.
Has anyone else has trouble with the sleep talking? He's disorientated for quite a while after I wake him up and he isn't sure what's real.

Wow I am never drinking while on lyrica again.. I used to be a heavy drinker and could handle my drinks better than people a couple years older than me, I haven't been drinking since I started lyrica but I graduated today so we all organised a party and well I started drinking at 4:30pm and then I just blacked out at 8:30-9pm... I've just woken up in bed, it's 3am, and have no idea what happened or how I even got in bed! I feel the absolute worst.. It's worse than a hangover! I'd advise not to drink on lyrica even if you can handle your drinks pretty well.. It's not a very good idea unless it's only a maximum of 2! Can't wait to find out what happened haha!

I have a serious drink problem. My doctor is aware of this yet has prescribed Pregabalin for severe pain.
Might this be dangerous?

The first and last time I ever took Lyrica, I apparently went to my fiances kitchen to get a drink and ended up DRIVING 16 miles HOME and I remember NOTHING. I DESPISE LYRICA. The DEA wants to take away opiates from people like myself who are in LEGITIMATE PAIN all the time and let the doctors they HAVE NOT arrested prescribed medications like Lyrica instead. Admirable reasoning. You see, I am FUNCTIONALLY DEPENDENT upon opiates. I can work, drive, be a good citizen like you all want because they DO NOT MAKE ME FEEL HIGH, all they do is keep me out of pain and withdrawal. But LYRICA and these new "better than opiate" replacements?? I'm absolutely certain I couldn't function at all on those. ESPECIALLY LYRICA. And that's without alcohol.

Your problem stemmed from the fact ur not a heavy drinker..... alcohol and lyrica bind gaba receptors... it would be similar to ativan and alcohol... if ur a novice narcotic user u will black out... personally i can handle oxycodone lyrican and drink.. and remain conscious lol... not a good thing means my receptors are down regulated.... but a non drinker will have problems...double alcohol content should be expected... take 3 shots expect the same as 6 shots on lyrica.

I also take 600mg a day for the past 9 years and I have no side effects when drinking. I've drank up to 7 glasses of wine in a night and was drunk but completely fine, no nausea and I remember everything and even walked home myself. Everyone is different though. If you are to consume alcohol make sure you're with someone you trust just in case you have issues

Yes, the dry mouth makes you drink faster. I try to drink glass of water between beers. But usually fail.

I have just started taking Lyrica for quite severe phantom nerve pain due to a total a Bracial Plexus injury,
I started at 150mg a day ( 2x75mg) and then jumped to 300mg a day ( 2x150mg ), which I found OK for about the first week , then I got severe hangover systems , for about a 3 days when (I hadn't even had a drink ) so I dropped at once to 150 a day again and I'm doing just fine. I do miss having a Beer or two at weekends ,from what I have read from the last few posts , I should have no problems at all. I have drank quite a lot of alcohol in my day , but over the last few years have kept it down to just a couple at weekends. I reckon its time to quench that dry thirsty side affect in get in my my mouth.

My reaction to Lyrica seem to mirror Geof's: short-term memory problems, dropping things - especially if I'm holding an object in one hand & do something with the other hand (docs done nerve tests - normal) I often drop the 1st item, eyesight changes - eye docs says eyes weaker, but no change in my early cataracts? Wants to do Cataract surgery - says vision will be great then ... ?! I drink very, very rarely so I h/n had any issues described there; but I'm also not much fun now :-) I take med for buldging disc just below neck fusion & pinched femoral nerve: some not so good days; some bad days, as long as there are more days I'll take what I'm given.

I agree 100% with you. I have been taking them for 5 months and been very careful about the alcohol I f I felt like a drink I would allow myself 2 x30ml measures with mineral water and lemon barely of vodka, last night I decided I had only taken my pills on the morning and I'm not sure why but for some reason I decided to have a few beers but that was a big mistake I don't remember falling to sleep only my partner finding me curled forward head in hands I have been ill now for 24 hrs can sleep cold/hot sweats and vomiting so please don't do it

This is the first time i have seen that sight changes. I've also been feeling like my hearing has changed. I'm aware of every little sound. Mostly at work around the heavy equipment. Did you feel that way too? I joke about my "spidey senses" but my right eye isn't doing so great while my hearing almost drives me crazy.

Oddly enough I have the opposite problem! I take 300mg at night for neuropathic pain that prevents me sleeping. If I have alcohol within a couple of hours of taking the tablet I don't sleep. No other side effects - except getting my life back.

I learned my lesson too .I took 100MG ,and had one small glass of wine ,then went out to eat ,had one Yager bomb and I felt so drunk we had to get our food to go. I won't be doing that again. Glad you are ok

Please share: What is MG spray that you sprayed on your skin? What were the dosages and types of fish oil, calcium, and Vitamin D that you used. Thanks, Eric
