Methadone No No No!!!!!

Methadone is the worst drug and most wicked drug in this entire world. They give it to people like me with pill problems and then you can never get off the stuff. I made the worst mistake of my life going into a Methadone program. The people at these places pretend like they are there for you but they are not. They are there to keep you on this drug that rots away at your mind and body, and they do it well. They want your money. Do you know how cheap liquid methadone is? They milk off your addiction and act like they are doing something good for people like me. I HATE Methadone. I hate what it's doing to me and I HATE that I came in this place for a pill addiction four years ago, at 22, told I had one year and I would be weened off and here I am. I fight with these people all the time about this but they come up with a million excuses for why I should STILL be on this crap. It is going to kill me, just like the other pills, maybe just slower and more agonizing.

No worry, methadone is not so bad. Benzodiazepines are the worst pills ever, no have worst thing as them, I would rather come off 5 times off 100ml of methadone than from 10mg of 30mg of benzo. I've been in coma by trying get off them. Methadone, if u taper, is very very possible. I've been on 130ml and in 3 months im down to 80ml with not even a headache. If u taper right then it is no problem. I was able to work 12 hour shifts with cold turkey. It depends how strong of a will you've got. In jail also on 100ml, was not given any for 4 weeks. I could already go another 3 and be off, but cos there's nothing to do there n was still craving I decided to take the easy way. Set your mindset that it's the end or something, if you want to really do it right. 1 year and you're clean, depending on how many ml u r on. If 50, like I said, I did cold turkey from 45ml and 12 hour shifts. You said that ur young in your twenties. That is a good time as ur health is very good. I mean I'm nearly 40, n I started using when I was 14, so I've been through so much pain omg. So someone can't stop smoking, im like whaat? Kiddin themselves - last 3 cigs, next monday - no, no, that's an excuse. If u do it, do it right now n here. My advice to everyone, never ever try poison, specially benzos. And remember, everything is possible, absolutely. Get to rehab, find your way, and do it slowly n u will be surprised how turned up in your head you've been. Everything is in our head. About 70% fear and anxiety. You'll be fine buddy, trust me.

Re: KZ (# 80) Expand Referenced Message

See that’s why else when I had to quit pain pills I slowly reduced my intake for a month, then I quit and I was done in a week. I started feeling significantly better after the fourth day but after a week I was totally fine.

When I had to quit taking pain pills 10 years before that I mistakenly thought that Suboxone with me and I never had withdrawals, so I switched that and I slowly weaned down over six months like my doctor had told me to, when I went off at the withdrawls lasted for weeks. Weeks. It took like a month to feel normal again. That’s why I didn’t use it again, it’s not worth it, it’s only good if you’re having cravings and you need to get rid of the cravings or if you need to wait and have withdrawals at a different time. Like if you have a job you can’t take time off now for example, just know you are extending your withdrawals by about four times as long as they need to be by doing it this way.

But if you plan to stay on it forever I’m sure it’s great you get your fix covered by insurance. I understand why people would love that.

Re: Russ (# 82) Expand Referenced Message

I’m sure methadone is great while you are taking it, yes most people are pretty happy with a steady flow of opiates in their body.

The post that you are replying to originally is talking about coming off of the medication. I mean if your goal was to switch one addiction for a safer one that you just use forever then yes you are fine and you don’t have to worry about it.

Also it’s probably easier to come off these meds than it is to come off intravenous heroin use, but the original post is talking about switching it for pain pills. Don’t do that it’s a terrible idea you are going to extend your withdrawals by weeks.

Re: VeteranExUser (# 84) Expand Referenced Message

They are telling the truth, it’s a lot harder to get off stuff like Methadone and Suboxone than it is to get off pain pills that you have just been taking for pain. If you are IV'ing heroin, it’s probably a really good idea to trade that for a Methadone or Suboxone habit.

If you have just been taking pain medication for a medical problem and you want to be done with it, changing to Methadone or Suboxone is the worst thing you could do for yourself. If you quit pain pills after taking them for years and years, the withdrawals go away after about a week. The third night is the worst so as long as you have something for sleep and anxiety and diarrhea, just do it.

This is not the same advice for someone who has a heroin addiction who has cravings, for you substituting with a new addiction that is safer is harm reduction and that is a smart thing to do. People who are looking to get off meds don’t need harm reduction they need to know that the withdrawals are going to take a month if they switch to Suboxone or Methadone where is if they just get off the pills they’ll be done in a week.

People like this are the reason methadone is still as stigmatized as it is. The truth is methadone saves people's lives for real real. I came into the clinic while I was homeless. Now I am healthier and happier with a girlfriend and an apartment and best of all my parents and sibling and I are closer than we've ever been now that I'm off of heroin. We all have to make a choice, choose life.

Methadone Hydrochloride, invented by the Nazis near the end of WW2 is the BEST EVER drug on this Earth! I have had this from my Swedish Pain Klinik and now UK for 37yrs. 230mg Physeptone (Methadone + Chloroform), 21 times stronger than Morphine and 2 times stronger than Methadone Hydrochloride. I had to take a suitcase of Martinedale bottles after the chemists were stopped from making it up from powder form and concentrating it. So 185mg/day and 100micg Fentanyl works perfectly. It's the only powerful pain killer that releases the entire does after 47 mins in my case. That means 185mg constantly killing pain non stop for at least 36hrs. No miosis after constant use, no euphoria after initial dose titration of 3 days, and no one can tell you are on it especially at work (Art Direktör), as no need to carry tablets or other forms of oral administration. Very few side effects. High dose could give gallvägsdyskinesi, gallstones? The only authoritive effects, to put doses down to drug addicts (illegal), is the Widmark paper on abnormal ECG heart fluctuations. This is controversial, in combination with other meds it could be any of the others. It's just an excuse to not give maintenance doses to drug addicts. Sweden has the only functioning Methadone program in the world. Life time high dose. Only the patient decides whether to stop, unless a positive test is left after the first 5 yrs of strict control. Methadone has the highest biological analgesic qualities than any other powerful medicine. 80%. Of course due to individual constitutions of the diverse users this analgesic quality has to be spread, 40-100%. No other pain killer can match this. Under the same reasoning the half life is put, after research, to 15-57 hours. 50% goes out in the urine of the rest and for lack of the English word the N-denetylerade pyrrolidinmetabolen (other deletion of the Methadone), 10-45 % is through faeces, feces.. How you can say this is the worst drug in the world ask someone due lie you down and smash your spine with a sledgehammer. Then post a reasonable message as to why it is the worst. Used correctly it is without doubt the greatest drug ever invented.

Re: 446 (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. They play games with you. They don't understand that you work. Also they expect you to walk in and put you on hold and make you wait there for a half hour to see the so-called supervisor. They are all rude at every Clinic, they don't care if you have a job or not. If you tell them that you're working, show them the pay stubs and you can't miss one day a week for a so-called group, they write you up, then you end up getting disciplinary detox and usage of, and then they tell you to come back in 90 days. Has to be some sort of type of guideline that every Clinic should follow, it's crazy. They all privatize and do what they want with you and it can make you addicted to more things than you were before you got there. Methadone is the government to have a piece in every drug out there in the market from their so-called medical marijuana. They're just breeding addicts. I was never on any medication, got to the clinic and they got me on eight different medications, from benzos for anxiety to sleeping pills. I never took any pills and now they give you a screaming methadone habit it and give you a benzo habit and then they tell you good luck come back in 90 days. Because of missing groups, you end up becoming a pill addict overnight and missing or losing your job.

I honestly think it depends on the person. I went to a methadone clinic, because I was a single mom and could not do in-patient rehab. I got up to 50 mg of methadone, and chose not to go higher. I staid at 50 for a few months then slowly started reducing my dose each week (I had weekly take homes, so went down 2-3 mg each week). Until I was completely off. It took a little over a year. It was the best I ever made for myself. I made sure to choose a clinic that offered counseling as well. That helped immensely! Because getting off opiates does cause a lot of depression. It’s been over 5 years now since I got off methadone and have had no problems since. However, I feel like you have to REALLY want to do it. and you can’t do it for any other reason than you wanting to, otherwise it’s too easy to fall back into old habits. There were people at the clinic who’d been going there for years and years, but they never seemed that interested in getting off methadon. Some expressed concern that if they stopped with methadone they’d go right back to using opiates again. This is why I feel it’s different for everyone. I know some who get low enough on methadone and then switch to suboxone and that worked for them. I don’t think methadone is evil, though you do have to remember it is also habit forming. My life is 100% better and I’m so thankful that program worked for me. I pray that everyone can find a program that works for them, whether that be methadone, suboxone, or whatever. Just find what works for you and stick to it. I wish all of you the best.

You're exactly right. I’ve been on methadone for over 11 years and I don’t know where to begin to try and get off it. They do treat you like s*** and take your money once they’ve got you in the program and hooked on it. Most of the places, especially the one where I go my counselor is worse than any probation officer I’ve ever had. They’re almost as if they’re a legal drug dealer. I pay $370 a month to go there and my medicine they give me per month cost them roughly $40. A 40mg Methadone wafer costs about .20 cents at a pharmacy out of pocket with no insurance.

Re: Pat (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

For all the Methadone users, whom let the government become legal pill pushers, you will think twice in about 2 to 5 years. The stuff is horrible on your body and is absorbed into the bone marrow, so withdrawal is hell. It takes forever to come out of your system. It rots your teeth, makes you fat, causes lethal cardiac arrhythmia and will ruin your life just like any other drug. I know this because I could be the poster child for the evil s***. It was invented by a doctor/chemist that worked for Adolf Hitler. Yeah it will get you off the other s*** but once you start your romance with methadone you are screwed. So my advice is to get off of it quick, no more than 6 months and good luck when you detox. Oh yeah, please do not let anyone tell you it is ok to take it through pregnancy. It is so sad to watch an infant detox off Methadone. Thank god I did not have my addictions when I was pregnant. And about the cardiac arrhythmia she, you won’t know you have them until your private doctor does an ECG because the Methadone clinic don’t care enough about you to check. They just want your money ever week.

I'm 47. I have been on methadone for 12 years. I no longer abuse any drugs and have been off everything my entire time at the clinic. I agree with you a million percent. I want off this s*** so bad. I have only seen two people in 12 years be able to do so. Both of them went thru horrible long withdrawals. Like 60 days worth. I now have cancer. My pain can't be controlled because of methadone. I have no support from the clinic in detoxing. I feel so trapped. It would of been much easier if I just got off opiates and never took methadone...

Johny61 - are you SURE they are giving you methadone LINCTUS? That is NEVER used for opioid maintenance, only for use as an antitussive. It is 1mg per 5mL, as opposed to methadone MIXTURE, which is 1mg per 1mL, and is the standard strength used for opioid issues. The linctus is very rarely prescribed. I think you have your formulations mixed up. You must have brought one bucketload of tablets with you, since for the past 30 years, the ONLY strength of tabletted methadone available in the UK is a paltry 5mg, and in other EU countries (save one in which 20mg are sold) 10mg, and the US 40mg. I would check everything you have, and have been prescribed if I were in your position. Something does not sound right about your regimen.

I hate methadone as much as the original poster. Thus when I started treatment never went higher than 30mgs and at this dose still felt groggy and a little loopy all day. Drs. Depending how the clinic is setup don't give 2 s***s about you or have a good clinic with psychologist and social worker available along with Dr. and support groups. The ladder is sadly usually only found in bigger cities where funding is available. In the town I'm in now costs money to just see Drs. in clinic unlike in bigger cities along with drug costs. When you are in recovery and working it makes it harder because of all the costs to get clean. If you are on assistance it's free. It almost doesn't pay to work of you want to recover or have someone financially supporting you. Also town I'm in now, don't think clinic likes I'm almost at the end of my treatment. Everyone I ever see in clinic or picking up their script you can just tell they are still using or on high dose. It's quite sad that nothing will change for these people because public support isn't there even though your own family may be going to these clinics and are addicted. Everyone just has to pull together and help each other out.

I know what you mean...my husband has been on methadone for well over 25 yrs. And looks like he will be on until he dies...he has asked to be weaned, but that was months ago and they have not even tried to wean him. He has come down 20 mgs by himself but is still taking 160mgs a day.

Nobody needs 190 twice a day, in fact that sounds like a misunderstanding, amount per ml, or just wrote it wrong. Who in the world is going to prescribe 400mg methadone a day? It sounds silly. Nobody on this planet needs 400mg a day. When I was young we used to get stuff from a pharmacy or hospital, and the May and Baker Diamorphine was 42%, and people used to OD all the time, same when we had some methadone powder from the war and people OD'd on 60mg. Obviously, inj. will increase the effect, but 400mg a day, is someones mistake. What would be the point in drinking 400ml? It would just be wasted and the user would sleep and have a constant headache. If you changed to 100mg twice a day you would hardly feel a change. 190mg twice a day will have little benefit, other than making you fat, and a huge user, which is nothing to feel proud of.

Methadone is an incredibly effective anti-depressant which gives the user energy and euphoria.

When people don't respond well to methadone it's usually because they have a low IQ.

It's not your fault but don't rag on it because you aren't very bright.

Unfortunately, I have been on methadone since 1977, and I live in Thailand but have to pay a lot to doctors. Nobody uses or knows what it is here. The problem is besides the crazy prices, it is laced with glycyron and alcohol, which is not good for my dodgy liver.
