Need Help Finding A Doctor That Will Prescribe Methadone For Pain Management In West Tennessee (Page 2)

Updated

I have a unique situation. I am a recovering addict with severe chronic pain. I have really bad scoliosis that's in my neck and back and been in several really bad car wrecks. Lets just say I'm a tree magnet when riding with other people. I have been on suboxone and subutex for the last 2 years. Before then I was going to the methadone clinic on and off for a few years but I couldn't pay for it anymore so I had to stop going. And before and during that I was going to the pain clinic for my back and neck pain. I was prescribed 120 10mg oxycodone and 120 60mg Morphine. Before all that I was Doing like 6 to 10 80mg OxyContin and 6 to 10 200mg morphine a day off the street from age 16-24. This was before I got insurance and found out I had scoliosis at the age of 24 and now about to turn 28. So there's no way I can take pain pills cause they don't work for my pain or my life. I haven't had a job or really got out of the house in the last two years because of the pain I'm in. I can't live a normal life on suboxone or subutex I'm just stuck in pain and became distant from everybody and everything I love. methadone was the only thing that has ever worked and gave me a normal life. If anybody can help me find a doctor I would appreciate it. Thank You

I feel you with the social situations. I always get your so beautiful you should find a man. You know what none of my so called friends not even most of my family knows how I look, how I get when I have pain levels that spike to a freaking 10. And yes I see no future. The worse part of it all is I am a single mom of a 9 year old and most of his friends mom's are always inviting us to do something with them. I have it about 50-50 now 50 percent of the time I can do it sometimes on sheer gut will power for my child but every year he grows so does my pain and his social life gets busier. HOW do I keep going ? How do I tell him no? How do I keep all the guilt inside. I am sick. I take 100mcg of the strategic patch plus 25 more mcg when the breakthrough pain or surgeries take place. I keep things hidden and rush recovery from surgery because I feel like my child sees me lying down enough anyways. I know this could NOT be good for me either but I will never get this time back with my child ever again. someone PLEASE give me advise. I have no family but my child and I. I cannot will not fail. being a mom means everything to me. Being a good mom means My prayers are answered. God Help me.

Posters,

I know this is an older post and pray that some of the negative did not push the guy starting the conversation over the edge. As a professional nurse, pain advocate, and published researcher I have in emergent situations referred legitimate pain clients to a methadone clinic as a last resort (to save their life) while we tried to get them hooked up with another pain specialist.

If they do not see the medical history (and I'd prepare a short one you should carry at all times) you should be ok but the treatment with the addiction drugs will kick you out especially with the new FDA 120 mg. morphine equivalent rule. Physicians are bearing down hurting legitimate pain clients by obeying this mess and it's all Odumma driven.

I am really hoping the original poster is ok if you are still around give us a head's up so we know it ok?

Editor's note: We do not verify the credentials of our users and nothing stated in our forums is intended to be taken as medical advice.

Posters,

What "Kevin" writes is a danger to your life - do not try it or even think about it. Anyone here who is suicidal there is a national hot line and you need to call the number they are wonderful, will get you whatever help you need, and not steer you towards more danger.

DO NOT ever mix various sedatives with opioids unless normally prescribed and well tolerated by your regular physician.

All of us on pain management are hit hard by the FDA 120 mg. morphine equivalent I had Dr. Famous in California for 5 years and now 30 of us were told hit the road because we are out of state; even he cannot write for high level opioid users (my DNA shows I am an ultra rapid metabolizer) and I may die shortly due to the medical profession (which I am in) being pussies about treating our pain.

Odumma is behind our current pain management issues BUT you have choices about life or death, make them with integrity.

Carrie,

What is the strategic patch do you mean Duragesic?

I hate to tell you but it sounds as if you need some other options. You are deeply depressed, and if you are laying down most of the time that is NOT what this medication was written for. It is to get you up and have quality of life.

Some of the side effects are depression, impending doom, anxiety, weight loss and deep lethargy. You definitely need some changes, however, if you refer to Duragesic withdrawal is one of the worst you will ever know even on a slow taper.

What do you use for breakthrough and why do you take medications; what are your pain disorders?

Carrie, I definitely understand how you feel and I'm a single parent of three daughters. I have Charcot-Marie-Toot which is prgressive for which there is no treatment or cure.I know you nine year old doesn't understand but trust me he knows something is wrong.Don't sacrifice your future with your grandkids just to do a little more today. It took me 15 years to get correctly diagnosed, I spent a long time at a methadone clinic worked my way up to monthly, finally after I was diagnosed I was able to get my medicine from the doctor. now the doctors won't write it, and if I went back to a clinic I would basically have to tell them a lie that I was taking my medicine incorrectly, and would have to go daily, the nearest clinic is about a 45 minute drive. On top is thatI would have to start at 30 milligrams (I was on 85 - 100 mg for the past 15 yrs.) and the only way to increase is to say you're in withdrawal I almost kicked that got kicked out for saying I was in pain. I have found that cannabis helps me greatly with my pain spasticity and nausea. my doctor had no problem with this until I asked to be sent for a consult to try and get methadone back, since it is what helps me best for almost 20 years. unfortunatelyI was put on the fentanyl patch and my doctor was told that I must now be tested and off of THC or I would not get anything. I am thinking about asking to be tested by saliva because THC is said to be out in 48 hours.

Opinions vary on how good an analgesic methadone is, side effects, etc. I had a huge Rx drug problem n college; got help; got my condition assessed and placed the correct meds. Nobody punished me for my "lapse," but it would have been harder for me if I were in med school at the time. Today, I can take Percocet 7.5mg or 10mg when needed. I just don't keep them around the house. I have to CAL a colleague. That said, you clearly need methadone/ AA/NA zombies are also spewing out propraganda tag "the past is the past." Then why don't they do what we do. -- especially when they have no medical training. If cynics don't work for you, are ypu by any chance a veteran? I don't think the VA healthcare system can turn you away as long as you received other than a Dishon. Discharge Im sorry I can't do more You also could try hospital detox — wen hyoure in real pain, they'll now it. Sorry to sound so discouraging.

Addiction Medicine is not a specialty recognized by the American Society of medical specialties. That ASAM designation is worthless. Very little training is required to qualify and one off the few doctors I BARRED from seeing Substance Abuse Pts was an alleged Addiction Specialist with ASAM "certification". He wasn't just clumsy; he was dead wrong most of the time and I can't be everywhere and neither can my Three Number Twos. The APA will tell you the same the SAM will tell you a lot of folklore and unsubstantiated nonsense. Example: Trazodone originally was market as the tetracyclic (I think!) AD Desyrel. Researchers noticed people were getting awfully drowsy, but the drug was marketed since it did objectively improve Depressive Episode in those studies. It didn't take long for us to realize that it;s a lousy AD, bt aGREAT NLON=ADDICTING SLEEP AID> Many thinks write for it. I take it on occasion an, for the doc, the wide dosage range (from 50- to 500mg at bedtime; however this pt. takes no other meds.) I know of NO OTHER BOARD CERTIFIED SHRINK WHO WRITES FOR TRAZODONE FOR DEPRESSION and the few non-shrinks wrote for it on my advice. i have a lot of friends who've helped me out; why not return the favor?

Looking for your e-mail. read Kevin's post. I can look you in the eye, my dear and state that no patient EVER has done that on MY watch (over even under my "absentee supervision" — when I'm not available, which isn't too often since I routinely take my Midnight Blue Camaro over 100mph answering pages. One or two of the local high patrol were patients or I treated their family members. They DO pull me over to ask if I need an escort at 120mph!

I have heard that Methadone us an excellent pain killer. I've been living next to neighbor who has had slipped discs in his back; methadone was the only thing that worked for him. He was also on oxyconton 80 mg 4 times a day. Methadone was the only pain killer that worked. He was also on the lowest mg of Methadone as well. I say hey kudos to Methadone. If it works for your pain and you don't mind the side affects then go for it.

I was prescribed Trazadone for depression back in early 2000's and it did nothing but knock me out, for a long time, and made me feel droggy and dizzy the next day.. And I usually have a high tolerance because I have had to be on medication of some kind most of my life and by the time I was 30, along with illnesses (medical and psychiatric), since childhood, I ended up severely injuring myself working as a LPN, was out on perm disability with back injury neck injury, after 2 failed surgerys, now DDD, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis(in every joint in my body including back neck even my jaw joints), fibromyalgia, hip dysplasia (1hip replaced in 2014)neuropathy, RSDS, migraines, TMJ, carp tunnel, and list cont.. I still also have my psychiatric conditions(many I've had since childhood) so I am not sensitive to mess by no means.... Yet Trazadone was horrible... Yes it helps sleep, but when you sleep that long that sound, it made me depressed.. Also, when I woke so unstable in my feet from like a bad hangover, I actually fell down a couple times.. It angers me that the government wants to almost do away with pain meds and chronic pain sufferers like myself, suffer... Yet meds like trazadone and amytriptyline are given and not considered a controlled drug... Yet ambien and lyrics have been classified controlled... WHAT???? They don't care what's harmful... It's all about power and money. (my opinion)..

Your reaction to Desyrel (trazodone) was atypical. Damned right Ambien and Lyrica should be in Schedule IV. One pharmacology professor told me years ago, Ambien is Valium without the buzz" and he sketched the two comparative molecules. I've written for probably 100 scripts for Trazodone for sleep. Those I DC'd were because it wasn't strong enough...and, let's not forget, my toga, DA sister, broke out in Hives! Because a drug doesn't work for you or you're allergic or hypersensitive doesn't make it a bad drug. Just last week, I had a patient referred to me by one of my best and fully linen sed residents. Couldn't sleep except with 100mg of Thorazine and 30mg of Ambien qHS. I don't like signing deals with the devil and even at 100mg/day....x 25 years... could spell major trouble. That's why this boy asked if I'd see his patient. I did and after some discussion, I discontinued the Thorazine and put him on 300mg of trazadone. I kept him on the Ambien — if used properly, it's never a problem — and he's sleeping fine.

My husband has cancer and its back for the ninth time in nineteen years. He had a great doc who wrote his ms contin, percocet for breakthrough pain but the doc moved. Now he is w a pain clinic who barely gives him enough medicine to function. It is so bad he is thinking of stopping all treatments and going w hospice. Please if anyone knows of a doc in MS or TN who can help it would make a huge difference and possibly save his life.

I know a doctor in the bay area, I was getting 480 methadone, 120 dilaudid, norco, and klonopin. My pain was handled. I'm 54 and don't care about addiction anymore. I just don't want to hurt 24/7. My biggest problem became, pharmacy wouldn't have quantity, then insurance didn't want to pay. I hate the veterans admin. I lost that doctor because I moved. Now it's hell trying to get all that back. I'm way legit as far as pain goes. I'm in Sacramento now can anybody hear me?
