Pain Medication Shame (Page 9) (Top voted first)

Updated

First of all, I hate taking pain meds but I was almost completely bedridden for 2 yrs. They gave me my life back and I'll be grateful for the rest of my life. My insurance company dropped me right before I was gonna have surgery to get some relief. So I had no choice but to go with the pain meds. I've been on oxycodone 30/150 per month (5 a day) and MS Contin 200mg 2 times daily since 2009. Had breaks when I could. My point is, nobody knows what my daily life is like. I feel ashamed every month getting refills. Maybe it's in my head but the staff at the pharmacy gives me that "pill seeker" look. I guess all that matters is my doctor trusts me and he knows my complete history. I know I'm not taking them for fun. I'd much rather be normal. Can anyone relate to what I'm saying?

I am glad you seem to work for a decent organization. Your experience is the rare exception. Most legal chronic pain patients are treated by pharmacies like they are criminals. The fact that you would post that your pharmacy takes note of people who arrive early to pickup their pain medications speaks wonders. What difference does it make what time you pickup your med scripts? Do you or any of your fellow employees make a not of what time people come in and pickup blood pressure medications? I highly doubt it. If the prescription is legal and filled what difference does it make what time after you open when it is picked up I? No pain patient should have to make up any “reason” for why they are their in the morning to pickup their legal prescription. THIS is EXACTLY one of the things that Pharmacy employees do to make the long term chronic pain patient feel low. There is a laundry list of things Pharmacies and their employees do to make a chronic pain patient that is filling a legally written prescription feel like they are dope addicts and “drug seekers”. Btw, NO ONE in your pharmacy should ever get involved in a patients treatment program. NONE of the employees have the persons medical records and none of the employees of the Pharmacy has the right to examine a patient and change their Doctors treatment plan. They are not qualified to do that and that means even the Pharmacist.

My doc wants me to have a back xray, since I was hit by a car at the end of December, and I have been treated well for 2 fractured tibua bones, very painful and have been unable to walk for 2 months. I have had 5 mris in the last 10 years. I do not know and hope the xray does not show anything new.

I understand, I have been 0n 6 30 mgs of oxycodone for last 15 years, I have a great pharmacy which was great to go for the last 10 years, then they got a new pharmacist ,things are different, they give me a hard time, now a new doctor wants to take me off pain meds and put me on a morphine pain pump. Not looking forward to this

Re: Planning (# 70) Expand Referenced Message
The ending of a pain patients life would make the Doctors and their cohorts happy. They could care less what is medically necessary. The fact that they prescribe anything is a miracle. If you don’t like it they are only happy if they do not have to serve you anymore. Most Pharmacies would like to not serve any pain medication scripts if they can.

Re: Pain man (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

This is absolutely NOT true!! I work in a pharmacy and the pharmacists have ZERO decision on how many C2 meds they get!! That is totally up to the DEA! They put limits on how many they will let pharmacies have each week and if we run out there is absolutely NOTHING the pharmacists can do but wait until the DEA will let us have more!! Because of this, we have had to turn away new patients that come in wanting to fill C2 meds, this is not just pain meds but C2 stimulates like Adderall, as well! If we don’t turn them away we won’t have enough for our patients that have been with us for years, and even than we still run out at times. I myself take Adderall and have had to wait a few days for us to get more in stock before I was able to get my med.

And believe it or not unless someone shows some red flags, we don’t give a s*** what patients are filling. Meaning if your getting maintenance meds or C2 pain meds, we really don’t discriminate! We’re constantly slammed and so damn busy each and every day to give it a second thought! And the second you leave we forget all about you cuz we’re so busy helping the next person! And this does not imply that we don’t care about our patients it just means we don’t have the time to judge them on what meds they are on. So unless you actually work in a pharmacy, please just STFU about things you know NOTHING about!! Pharmacists are NOT withholding these meds on some patients just because! If your upset, talk to the DEA and don’t just assume it’s the pharmacists and techs keeping these meds from people! After all we don’t make any money by not filling meds for people!

Look into Cannabis for pain relief. It's a far better route to go than Pharmaceuticals

I don't really understand how you are bedridden. I live in NYC and have always been able to walk everywhere which may have caused my body to be more subtle. Can you get to a physical therapist to get your body more able to move a bit? To be in bed for 2 years doesn't seem right. And the pills... huge numbers a day. Yes it's good to get some relief from the pain, but I'm sure that moving your body will give you a lot of help to improve your life. I had back surgery on my lower spine 3 years ago. I still feel pain and possibly it hasn't done much to help in general. I'm told now that the vertebrae L2 above my surgery is out of place now and is adding to the pain. Meanwhile the bill from my doc to the insurance for the 2 vertebrae he nailed together at allegedly the world's best hospital, HSS paid him $90,000. Of course, he's going to go for the money. Gotta move your body. It's the only way to get better. Cheers!

Hi sweetie well let’s start with I have been in a wheelchair for 4 years I have rods in my spine and spinal stenosis, bulging discs, Osteoporosis, I could go on and on but the reason they are looking at you like that is because! You are getting way to high a dose for your problems! I only get 20mg of oxycodone 3 times a day! And I’m way way worse than you I was bed ridden for 4 years in traction at a long term care facility and I’m only 46! So I’m outraged that they are giving you what you say you are? And then you complain they look at you like a druggy? Honestly you should be cut down to 5mg of Morphine 3 times a day if you have no rods , screws, pins ? Anything like that in your spine then you can be on that amount but you are on way to much narcotics and I’m showing my doctor this message and asking how you can get this amount when I cannot even walk and I only get what I do?? You need to go to rehab because it sounds like you really don’t need them anymore your body has just adjusted to them and making you think you need them to survive! You need to be put on suboxone! I would look at you like a druggy too!!! When people who are in wheelchairs and can’t walk cannot even get what you are getting!!? Not right!
