Pharmacies In Broward Co That Have Oxycodone
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hi, my husband has chronic pain from multiple surgeries and has been on 30 mg oxycodone, 2-4 times a day. He found a Doctor to write him a script for 10 days worth of meds, but we can NOT find a pharmacy who carries it or who will give it to him as he just moved here from Out of state.. He had been getting the medication for years at a Walgreens in his previous state of residence, but no Walgreens or any other pharmacy will help us here! We also tried, Cvs, Publix and Walmart. All say they don't carry it or won't give it to us because he is new to Broward County. Any help is appreciated!!! Thank You. :)

My husband is 100% disabled and has been for 20 yrs due to back problems. He used to have his 10mg script filled at a local pharmacy with no problem, then Benzer bought them out. The new pharmacist was a complete ******. He'd give him problems every time, making him wait extra days, filling other monthly scripts that the Dr had taken him off of, even though the pharmacist was notified (because those were the ones we had to pay for) and wouldn't fill the oxy script unless my husband bought the others too! Eventually, this CRAZY pharmacist began carrying a gun in his waistband, and pulled it on my 61 yr old, disabled, walks with a cane, husband..with witnesses!!! So with the next script (Dr only writes for 16 days at a time) we decided to use the hospital pharma where his Dr practices. They filled it, no problem, for 3 months. Then out of the blue the pharmacist says no, she wants a treatment plan and diagnosis from the Dr before she'll fill it anymore. The Dr though has the outlook, and I can't blame him, that it's not her business, she's not the Dr and has no business trying to involve herself. He's writing the script and insurance is paying for it, so she can go screw herself. So he refuses to provide her with anything. This whole scenario is just bull. Now he can't find anyplace to fill it. He got his prescription today and has driven to 10 different pharmacies and none will fill it, all say they don't carry it or they're out. I talked to a Publix pharmacist last month, thinking maybe we'd do the online by mail, but was told usps isn't allowed to carry it. Just unreal. And he was born in Miami and has lived in Broward for 35 yrs! The Dr has been in practice here for at least 15 yrs. So wth??

The DEA is not limiting anything. It is not up to them to do that. They cannot interfere with medical treatment even if there are abuses. They can crack down on the abusers, period. They fine pharmacy chains and wholesalers for violations of record keeping, etc. but that has nothing to do with this. This is an overreaction by drug stores and pharmacists to a problem. When they get nailed on the other side for ADA violations they will swing back to where they belong.

Karen. It's been my experience female pharmacists are more apprehensive about filling these meds. And the ones who do, have given me dirty looks and unsolicited advice on the dangers of these meds. But yours had NO authority to override your doctors orders. Perhaps you could bring the bottle into your doctor to show him/her how this pharmacist took it upon herself to override their orders without even giving you the option to fill it elsewhere. I don't think they'll appreciate that at all. I wish you the best of luck!

cj i was pissed! only got 10 of a script that was written for 30, because they said that was the limit of pills that could be dispensed, i did want the scrip back but she had already written on it and made the changes. next time i will take it to an outside pharmacy. this is the county hospital/med school so they do have limits. i was just shocked when they just changed the script without giving me the option to fill it elsewhere, learned my lesson.

Karen, thanks for the info! The hospital pharmacy I usually fill mine at is the same hospital where my pain clinic is located. I don't know if they accept scripts from outside the hospital doctors as there's literally 100's of them. They work an assembly line filling scripts. I can't imagine the GOV putting low limits on the number of meds allowed due to the sheer number of patients there. But how could the pharmacist change your script like that?? They aren't allowed to change them at all. Or did he not have enough and did a partial without telling you? I'd be pissed because you have to give up the rest of them. I would have demanded my script back and waited until he had them in stock or brought it elsewhere. What a mess this turned in to. Drug seekers, doctor shoppers, made it so hard for legitimate chronic pain sufferers to fill their meds :-(

cj be careful filling your script at a university pharmacy, i just found out they have limits on the number of pills that can be dispensed. i was given a rx for 30 tabs and when i turned it in to be filled at the hospital pharmacy, the pharmacist changed the rx to 10 tabs. i would have been better off taking it to an outside pharmacy. i will know better next time.

I just returned from Miami last month and not only didn't I live there, I had an out of state prescription for only TEN mg oxycodone. My doctor ASSURED me I wouldn't have a problem, even wrote a note on the back of the script if the pharmacist needed any info, verification, wrote the doctors names on call 24/7. Oh boy was he wrong! I ended up overnighting the script back home, had it filled by my daughter who overnighted it back to me. Yes, that's legal if it's your own medicine. Your best bet is to try a big university hospital pharmacy. As long as you have Florida ID, the script was written in Fla, you should be able to fill it there. Or you could try the hospital pharmacy the doctor who wrote the script is affiliated with. OR maybe he could rewrite it for half the mg but double the amount to 2 every 4-6 as needed? Good luck!

What drug do you suggest? He cannot take anything with Tylenol. We were considering asking the doctor to re write it for morphine, 30 mg. willing to go down to 15mg if that would make it easier to find. Don't know if dilaudid is easier to get as well. Just don't know where to turn. The ER won't help, I hear. They just give Ativan and tell you to see your doctor or go to detox. It's so crazy, we are thinking of moving back out of Florida, so he can go back to his old doctor and pharmacy...:(

Your going to run into that problem withthat particular medication no matter where your going or what doctor prescribed. The DEA is limiting the amount of 30mg oxycodone hydrochloride units at pharmacies.

Change the mg

Change the drug

If the person is in true pain they won't care if its Roxicodone that helps. Talk with the Dr about your issues and he or she will come up with a solution. Hope you get pain relief.

You could try seeing if the doctor will call to verbally authorize the prescription to the pharmacist in addition to the hard copy of the script. If the doctor explains why you are out of state, it gives it more legitimacy. Also, how are you presenting it to the pharmacist? As a pharmacist myself, if someone comes in with a controlled prescription and is aggressive or suspicious about how the present the script to me, I would be hesitant to fill it as well. It's our license on the line if it's fake or the doctor is abusing prescriptive authority. Not saying yours is, but the way society has turned, it's caused a lot of pharmacists to be pessimistic and lose trust. Try with the doctor first, and worst case scenario try to find a new doctor in the new state! Good luck.
