Prolia Loss of Taste and Smell

I have been taking Prolia injections for 2 years now. Over time, I've noticed that my sense of taste and smell has diminished. As of 6 months ago, I have totally lost the ability to taste anything sweet. Desserts of any kind taste bitter to me. I have also been on Levothyroxine (Synthoid) for a few years prior to starting the Prolia, but the loss of taste and smell has been significantly worse since I started the Prolia injections. Has anyone else experienced taste and smell issues taking Prolia? ## Yes I haven't any taste. Feel a little hungry. Then no taste and don't want it. Also my shoulders are really hurting, then goes to my head. I have several health problems but I know my body. Was not a candidate for Prolia at all and I would not take it again. Best of luck to you ...

What To Take After Stopping Prolia?

I had two injections of prolia and then my doctor said we could stop, because I was well - that was 2 years ago. Now I had a test and it seems my results are worse again. My doctor said to start with bonviva again (medication I used before prolia). I take calcium 1 calcimagon-d3 forte every day. Are there other therapies? I had no problems when I took prolia, but I don't want it anymore because of the side effects. ## I found the post on Side effects experienced after a Prolia injection very interesting as I have been having this injection every six months for osteoporosis for the last three and a half years. I have had this injection sometimes in the arm and sometimes in the stomache depending on the nurse/dr. injecting. I must say I have never had any reaction either in terms of a...

Prolia side effects

Would like to know of side effects after Prolia infusion from other persons. Up to now I have none. ## Prolia is used to treat or prevent Osteoporosis, specifically in post-menopausal women, it contains the active ingredient Denosumab. I'm glad to hear you've had no side effects, however, they can include: skin infections, jaw bone problems, irritation at the injection site and hypocalcemia. Read more: Is there anyone else with experience using this? ## How are you doing now? Still now side effects? Please let us know ## I was given a shot of prolia 8 days ago. I am suffering from pains in my arms and legs, digestive discomfort and nausea. Has anyone had this shot as I would like to know how long these side effects last as I am unable to work at the moment. I really feel terribl...

Prolia issues and side effects

I am not going to have my next shot of Prolia due 11 June. I have already had two injections and lately have suffered horrible side effects such as terrible constipation, leg and foot cramps, skin rashes, stomach pain, etc. I also found out that Prolia works by stopping the body's own bone production, causing old bone to become denser. This results in probable fractures due to old brittle bones, Prolia also causes low calcium levels in the blood, a weird side effect seeing it is supposed?to strengthen boned! ## I am sorry for your pain and suffering, I am on the "high risk list" for fractures, so having a product that has rebuilt bone mass in MY body is a blessing. No, I don't like the side effects, but I don't want to be in a wheel chair either.. Good Luck To You and...

Prolia and tooth extraction

I got one shot of Prolia in late December 2022. In February I developed a tooth infection and fracture below the gum line. It needs to be extracted. No one seems to know anything about this. I am so worried about jaw necrosis. Oncologist who gave me the drug said wait at least 3 months, my former oncologist said 2 months. Everything I've read online says to wait the 6 months. But I have an infection and I'm concerned about how that may affect my heart and my dental health. Has anyone had a tooth extracted after one shot of Prolia? ## I’ve been having those shots since 2017 and so far had no problems. You’re letter scared me. Sorry to hear about your pain.

Prolia and dental braces

Hi. Before I found out I had developed osteoporosis (recent DEXA scan) and had to have the PROLIA injection I had already had braces fitted on my lower front teeth. I read that prolia inhibits bone regrowth and I cannot find any information about whether the teeth will actually move and the bone in the jaw be recreated as it should so the teeth stay in their new position. I rang AMGEN to ask them and they could not give me any advise. Has anyone continued having dental brace treatment during Prolia treatment and has the dentistry results been positive? ## I would be interested in the too I would like to get braces. Had 2 injections now. Please share what you find out.

Prolia & Hair Loss

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem? ## Hello, Gracie! How are you? No, this isn't listed from what I can find, but I'll check a couple more sources to be sure and post back. Are you on any other medications? How old are you? ## I'm 57. On no other meds except evista and a pill for reflux. A friend sent me a website that stated that there was a study with some hair loss ## Yes, after my second shot of Prolea, I had two UTIs, fatigue, huge bumps under the skin on my face and all over my scalp, an array of unexplained symptoms like peripheral neuropathy (not diabeti...

what do prolia patients say about the side effects

What does the pharmaceutical people of Prolia advised regarding its side effects? ## Hello, Lala! How are you? They do warn that it can possibly cause some potential serous side effects, such as low blood calcium, serious infections, jaw bone problems, thigh bone fractures and more. Have you had a bad experience with it? ## Yes, the discomfort in the mouth is the worst. Now I have to make a decision regarding what to do with my osteoporosis. I am afraid of Prolia but doctors say that Prolia is the best medicine offered. ## I HAD THE PROLIA INJECTION 5 DAYS AGO AND HAVE HAD BACK PAIN OR SORE BACK FROM THE INJECTION. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE INJECTION. NOW , I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PROLIA EVEN HELPS THE BONE LOSS. THE FDA SHOULD BE SUED. THIS IS OUT...

Prolia side effects skin rash

I developed a red burning itchy lumpy rash after one injection of Prolia. Mainly on face neck chest arms scalp. Anyone else? ## Hello, Willy! How are you? That can be a side effect of Prolia, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, hypocalcemia, asthenia and fatigue. However, since it is itchy, you should have it checked out, because it could be an allergic reaction that requires medical treatment. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Willy, please look under Prolia side effects on this site. We have almost 900 people writing and talking about Prolia. You sort of worded your question wrong to land on the mega load of Prolia problems. Yes, it's from Prolia and requires medical attention. You will probably have to take written confirmation to make any MD believe yo...

Prolia side effects ongoing

I had my infusion Mar 4 2015. I have experienced severe stomach pains, leg pains that wake me up at night, a horrible dry cough, near migraine type headaches, very severe weakness, trouble walking, constipation, had to have dental work that I usually have great teeth, some trouble sleeping. My rheumatologist did nothing to try to help me with the symptoms but my primary doctor gave me medication that help with the stomach pains, take Excedrin for Migraines and enteric aspirin for back and body, and other meds to try and find some comfort. I'm somewhat better than the few weeks after the infusion but still have a lot of problems. Hopefully this doesn't last for 6 months. ## Hello, Shirl! How are you? I'm so sorry about what you're going through. Everything you've list...

Prolia Side Effects Duration

Would like to know if anyone had side effects from Prolia but they went away - and how long did it take for that to happen? ## There have been many posts about people suffering side effects, which in theory should wear off in a few weeks, but it hasn't worked that way for many. Here's a link to a post with comments from several people that have been suffering problems: Are you also suffering from problems? ## First injection Feb. One week later could barely walk or use my arms due to pain. Now have back pain, musculoskeletal pain, cholesterol very high and walk with a cane or walker, very seldom drive now, due to arm weakness.AND my doctor said there were no side effects.!!! Will not take second shot in August. ## Have you rec'd any info on your question. Or since May can you...

Getting ready to take a Prolia shot

My Oncologist wants me to start Prolia injections in june but my regular doctor is concerned because I take Benacar for high blood pressure and says that Benacar can cause kidney problems and is worried about me taking Prolia as it can cause kidney problems and since i have had kidney failure in the past it could cause me more problems. Should I take Prolia or not? Just wondering. I also need some teeth pulled before I get the shot. I had breast cancer 5 years ago and did Chemo Radiation and had surgery to remove the breast. I am 61 years old. Please give me some insight. ## If possible, it would be good to get these two doctors to discuss it, together, so they can mutually decide what would be best for you. Prolia can be problematic, because it does tend to cause troubling side effects...

Effectiveness of AlgeaCal instead of Prolia

Need everyone’s advice, good or bad, on AlgaeCal or similar products. Latest DEXA for me is -3.6 which is the worst I’ve gotten. Will not do another Prolia shot due to side effects that have just begun to recede after 2 years. If I had to do one supplement and a couple of exercises, what would you suggest they be? Thanks to all ~ ## Has your doctor made any suggestions? You can learn more about Osteoporosis and treatment options here on Medline Plus. In my mother-in-laws case, when she couldn't tolerate medications, her doctor told to her to eat at least one serving of yogurt a day, because the calcium in it is readily absorbed. There are also some foods listed here according to their calcium content. ## VerFree ~ Thank you for your valuable input. Being dairy intolerant...

Prolia & ldn

I take ldn for does help my energy level. My dr wants me to start Prolia for osteoporosis. This drug effects the immune system. I know ldn helps to boost the immune system. Can these 2 drugs be taken together? I need to make a decision soon. I'd like to hear about anyone with ms using Prolia.....I'm scared. ## I just had a Prolia injection 2 weeks ago. I can tell you this, I would rather be in a wheelchair in a nursing home than have this in my system. It completely and totally DELETES YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. I'm really sick and need to go to the ER but I cannot be around other sick people without an immune system. I will NEVER have another one in my lifetime. Also have a couple of very needed surgeries scheduled that will most probably be cancelled because I have NO IMM...

Severe constipation from Prolia injections?

Anyone have this problem? I was given two shots over the last year no problem. Third shot in November and I cannot resolve my severe constipation. Nothing helps. I eat enough fiber, drink enough water, and work out most days. Miralax doesn't help. Any suggestions? ## Heat some prune juice and drink it but make sure you have easy access to a bathroom. Also pitted prunes. Heat them also after adding water to cover and microwaving them till plump. Not all at once. It may work like dynamite!!! Just a cup of the juice at night, go in morning or whenever it wants you to! ## The antibody Denosumab® or Prolia® for skeletal/bone loss issues comes with a long list of side effects with some being very severe. Constipation is among the top three, so it happens quite often. These issue...

Delaying Prolia injection

I had a tooth extraction. Can I delay my Prolia injection by one month? ## It would be best to discuss it with your doctor, and follow their instructions. The concern is that medications like Prolia have been known to cause osteonecrosis of the jaw, so proper dental care, and maintaining good dental hygiene while taking it are very important. Was your dentist aware that you are on it? The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, back ache, muscle aches, rapid weight gain, and swollen glands in the neck. Are you on any other medications? ## Do not take Prolia if you do not want to loose all of your teeth. I now have none of my natural teeth and in the middle of implants which is extremely expensive. Dentures are not working because of bone disfigurement. I alway...

Side Effects Of Prolia & Zometa Are Similar

I'm a 59 year old female, diagnosed with Behcet's Disease and I use Prednisone for treatment for my weekly flares. The Prednisone is hard on my bones and has caused me to get osteoporosis in my hips. I had my first infusion of Zometa six days ago. I thought I was going to die from the side effects. I had 103 degree fever for five days, deep bone pain everywhere, muscle pain, flu like symptoms, migraine headache, burning eyes, pale skin, restlessness, and no appetite. Today six days later I'm still fatigued, pale, mild bone pain, mild muscle pain and no appetite. I reported these side effects to my doctor. His nurse suggested I maybe try Prolia injection in six months instead. I found this web site and was reading everything about Prolia and the side effects, they sound exact...

Prolia and Leg Tremors

I had a Prolia shot two weeks ago and am experiencing shaking and leg tremors. Are there others who have had this reaction? ## Hi Mary, Based on my research, I did find "tremors" to be a side effect of the Prolia shot. The side effect isn't specific to any particular body part, however I would definitely speak with your physician or the medical professional who administered the shot. I hoep this info helps! ## PUBLIC COMMUNICATION - Health Canada Endorsed Important Safety Information on Prolia November 21, 2012 Subject: Prolia® (denosumab) - Risk of Unusual Thigh Bone Fractures AMGEN Canada Inc., in association with Health Canada, would like to inform you of new important safety information related to the risk of unusual thigh bone fractures associated with the us...

Prolia Injection Side Effects

Aprox 2 weeks after the prolia injection I started to experience nausea and weight loss. Also, loss of appetite and a keen sense of smell developed. It was difficult to eat or smell cooked food. It has been months and these symptoms have decreased dramatically. In contacting their website they would not confirm or deny this as a side effect of the drug. Has anyone else experienced nausea w/this drug? ## Hi Bonnie, From what I could gather, the following side effects are associated with Prolia, that may be similar to what you had experienced: -nausea -tingling in your fingers, toes, or around your mouth -pain, numbness, swelling, or drainage from mouth, teeth, or jaw -vomiting Referenced from: You or your doctor can also report various s...

Dental and jaw pain

I've been on Prolea for 1 month after multiple fractures of vertebrae . I've had a lot of dental problems since having my first shot... Increased cavities, one root canal and another one coming up tomorrow and a possible 3rd... My jaw pain gets almost unbearable, never had any of this before... I wish there would be a way to reverse that shot! there has to be something else to help my bones get stronger... ## Prolea, and most other osteoporosis treatments are known to possibly cause dental issues as side effects, along with joint aches, it could also make it slower for you to heal, after having dental work done, so please make sure your dentist is aware that you have been given Prolia. Yes, there are other options, but as I've already stated, they all carry the risk of causi...
