Is this drug considered to be a narcotic? I'm dealing with someone with an addictive personality and keeps going to docs and getting different types of drugs. I want to make sure this isn't in that sort of category. ## No, Thomas, this is an SSRI antidepressant that is used to treat various mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and OCD. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. Having surgery and I need to know if any of the following have blood thinners in them: sertraline, omeprazole, benazepril, atorvastatin, or hydrochlorothiazide? ## Hi Ron, Just for your information: - Sertraline is an antidepressant - Omeprazole is for acid reflux / heart burn - Benazepril is an ACE inhibitor used for hypertension - Atorvastatin is used to lower cholesterol - Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic Of the meds that are mentioned above, none are classified as anticoagulants - HOWEVER - Benazepril reportedly works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. So this is something I would encourage you to discuss with your surgeon ahead of time - just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps!

I have been on sertraline (generic of Zoloft) for ~8 months (? maybe for longer. I don't have the best memory). My current dose is 150 mg, which I've been taking for ~2 months. It's helped my anxiety but not my depression symptoms, so my psychiatrist is switching me to fluoxetine (generic of Prozac). For the first week I'm supposed to take 100 mg of sertraline and 20 mg of fluoxetine; for another week take 50 mg of sertraline and 40 mg of fluoxetine; then just take 60 mg of fluoxetine. Previously when I've switched SSRIs (with a different psychiatrist) I went completely off one before starting the other. I'm worried about the risks of taking more than one SSRI at once, does this sound dangerous or is it a safe way to switch? Has anyone done a similar thing with t...

I take Clonazepam, Depakote and Sertraline. I'm involved with CPS and was told that my meds can make me test positive for methamphetamines. Is this true? I do not take anything beyond what I am prescribed. I need some answers as it's preventing me from getting my kids. ## No, none of the medications you've listed have been known to cause false positives for it. Are you taking anything else, even over the counter products? ## I'm not sure about the one but Sertraline can cause a false positive for benzodiazepines.

My father is 76 years old and had his first cerebral stroke two months ago. Hi, I turned 50 in Aug 16 and started having hot flushes about a year ago. They occured once or twice an hour each day over a period of about 5 weeks. They would then disappear for 2-3 months. The flushes caused me to feel an overwhelming heat from top to toe and my whole body would become wet and droplets would appear on my face. This would last about a minute or two and then I'd be back to normal. I teach adults so this was somewhat embarrassing during lessons. My job is part-time and extremely stressful and in Nov 16, I was signed off with work related stress and anxiety. I have been on Sertraline 100mg for about 3-4 years because I had an episode of work related stress back then and had 5 months sick (there were other issues too at the time). At the age of 45, I had the Merina c...

I wanted to know if Sertraline is similar to a Xanax? My boyfriend recently got prescribed Sertrailine HCL 50 mg (tablet L U D02) for his panic attacks and anxiety. He told me it was like taking a xanax that he was once prescribed before. I was wondering if they were similar? ## Hi Cherish, Even though your boyfriend said that the drugs feel similar for him, Sertraline (brand name Zoloft) and Alprazolam (brand name Xanax) are actually in 2 different drug classes. As a side note, the NDC code of the tablet which you have described is 68180-352. Sertraline is considered an SSRI antidepressant most commonly prescribed for depression, but it can also be prescribed for anxiety or panic disorder. Alprazolam is considered a benzodiazepine prescribed to treat anxiety. So all in all they are qui...
