Re: Deedee (# 79) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for your kind response. The problem I have with switching to a "mom and pop" pharmacy is: Will they be covered by my insurance? If not, then they will not be in the "network" which will result in no payment or an out-of-network payment. I am certain after much research that the "Watson" brand generic hydrocodone is no longer being manufactured. Because Walgreen's has over 1100 locations it is possible that some Watson generic hydrocodone can be found somewhere but when it is gone it will be gone and replaced with the "Actavis" brand which is an awful product.

Re: Deedee (# 81) Expand Referenced Message

Unless I want to pay an out of network price I have to go to an approved pharmacy. I also take lorazepam 1 mg at night only. I am having no issues with that. It is with the generic hydrocodone that I am having an issue. I am currently in Court at my expense to force my insurance company to pay for name brand hydrocodone because they will not pay even one dime and two different pharmacists that I know said the name brand is still a good quality while the generics have been reformulated and are absolutely awful.

Here is the answer, according to the internet about Watson brand hydrocodone. Watson brand Hydrocodone is NOT being manufactured any more. Back in 2014 Watson bought out the Actavis brand pharmaceuticals. They continued to manufacture the Watson brand hydrocodone until they replaced the Watson brand with the Actavis brand. The Actavis brand was reformulated to suppossedly take out any of the qualities of a “high” that everyone in government was sure was causing the so called “opioid epidemic”. All they did was make the hydrocodone manufactured under the Actavis brand an awful medication. The problem is when a manufacturer attempts to remove the properties of a pill that causes the so called “high” they, at the same time, make the pill worthless and totally ineffective. They changed hydrocodone to nothing more than a Tylenol or an Advil—if that. According to the internet account, Watson will continue to manufacture some medications in certain parts of the Country under the Watson name but NOT hydrocodone. Walgreens changed me from the Watson brand to the Actavis brand without my knowledge in 01/2018. I have been fighting them in Court every since the insurance appeals ran out. I kept beating the insurance company at every appeal but they would still not allow me to change from the worthless generic brands to the name brand medication (which btw is getting harder and harder to get). The difference? According to two pharmacists the name brand they have had no complaints on the generic they have had many complaints on. They recommended that I change to the name brand to avoid the ineffective generics. The problem comes down to one issue. My doctor does not have my records dating back to 2006 and they want her to say that the generics are ineffective as opposed to the name brand and since my records are unavailable to her dating back for over 12 years they keep denying my appeals based on nothing more than their uninformed opinion. It is in the Court system now and we will see what happens. Fortunately, I know how to sue these bastards. We will see if their “opinion” holds up in Court without one scintilla of evidence to back them up. I could see their reticence if I was asking to go from one medication that is way more inexpensive to another that is very costly but I am not. Of course, the name brand is more expensive than a generic but I guess they think that if I win then that would leave them open to all sorts of appeals that they would lose and cost them millions in the long run. I think they are finding out that I just refuse to accept their mistreatment of me, and, others similarly situated, lying down. The bottom line is the Watson brand hydrocodone is no longer being manufactured and that is why Walgreen’s and other pharmacies no longer carry it. It is possible that some pharmacies have some pills left over from when the Watson generics were made but they are NOT being made any longer.

Re: Cathy (# 84) Expand Referenced Message

I don’t know where you live but, according to the information that I have read on the internet, the Watson brand is no longer being manufactured and that is why you were given the Actavis brand if you went to Walgreens. That is all they carry. At least that is what I was told by the pharmacist at the local Walgreen’s I use to go to. I had to move to another Pharmacy to get another brand. That, and the fact that the pharmacy personnel treated me like I was a junkie when I asked why they changed manufacturers.i have been doing business with Walgreens for over 20 years and in two different States and I thought they knew me and I knew them. When I broached the subject of the hydrocodone manufacturers they immediately changed their attitude from affable to annoyed. This was completely I called for. It felt as if the Corporate Office instructed all of the local personnel to intentionally offend anyone getting opioid prescriptions so they would take their business elsewhere.

Hey man, I have a herniated disc, and Chronic Disc Disease and live in severe pain. You should consider yourself blessed you even get a RX of hydrocodone to worry about filling.

Re: Herman (# 20) Expand Referenced Message
Why it is not even the same pain medication is because the manufacturers (because of the pain medication hysteria commonly known as the so called “opioid crisis”) has reengineered the pain medication and has removed 70% of the oxytocin from the pills because they thought they could remove the threat of addiction but all they did was remove 70% of what made the pill effective. Also, for many years, the manufacturers have been allowed to put up to 20% less of the active ingredient in their pills. So we are hit with a double whammy. 20% less of the active ingredient (for example a 7.5 hydrocodone can legally only have 6 mg of the effective ingredient.) on top of that the manufacturer has reduced the oxytocin in the remaining ingredient by 70%. This is the times we live in. It is not political as all parties are responsible for where we are.

Re: cliff j (# 109) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, I totally agree with you. Chronic back pain sufferer for over 20yrs. I was on opiates Vicodin then Norco to ease the pain to function and to continue working. Had lumbar surgery in August of 2016. Surgery helped a lot. Last six months pain is starting again in the same areas as before surgery. For the last 20yrs I always had some tightness spasms numbness stabbing and such in the thoracic part of my back but it was helped with the opiates I was taking before surgery. Yes I did therapy I had deep tissue massages ice packs heating pads CBD oils creams steroids steroid shots and ibuprofen to help. Ibuprofen was the only over the counter med that really helped and I could take up to 10 a day in needed. Also Epsom salts baths too. Found out in November 2018 I have a Central Disc Protusion at t7-t8 pushing in my spinal cord as well as a Disc Protusion at c6-c7 pushing in my spinal cord. A few months ago had 2 MRIs on lumbar one with and one without contrast and my doc put his fists together with his knuckles lined up to each other then he moved his fists up and down and told me my lower back is doing this too. I have received NOTHING from my doctor of 18 yrs since his office cannot treat chronic pain due to new OPIATE LAWS.

Went to pain clinic he referred me to. It was such a joke I spent over 1,700.00 dollars and when the pain spec finally ordered a MRI I went got it done and while I waited for my next appt I went to have deep tissue massage from my doc and he asked How’s the Pain Clinic going did they order your MRI? I told him yes He says he did order it with Contrast didn’t he? I said no, why? He told me after surgery in order to really see what’s going on in that area MRI should be done with contrast. Well Pain Doc appt came I asked him why my MRI wasn’t ordered with contrast and he said well it’s bad in the kidneys I was like my kidneys are great functioning great never had a problem with them He says well they can go at anytime. He then ask who told me about Contrast after surgery I said my doctors name as he is the one who referred me to him. The pain doc gave me a look and asked Who gave you your surgery I told him and he says Well Why don’t you go ask him what he thinks about my MRI and ask him what he would do. I was shocked at his unprofessional conduct. So I played with him being sincere and mature I said so if he wants to give me a cortisone shot I should stay there and let him give me the shot. HE WAS LIKE OH NO YOU HAVE TO COME BACK HERE. I explained to him my insurance does not covered the U/A and it costs me 310.00 out of pocket. He just said Wow that’s a lot but regardless you need make an appt with me for the shot If that what he thinks.

Needless to say I never went back. I paid my bills with them even though I felt I shouldn’t have had to. So now for me PAIN HAS SUCKED UP MY LIFE DUE TO THIS “OPIATE CRISIS” My job is suffering I suffer everyday I have no real enjoyment because I cannot do much of anything because of those spasms and total back pains. I haven’t even tried to ask anyone for Norcos to help me at least to function without teary eyes depression and to get some part of my life back. I get so upset because of what this laws and restrictions have done to me and my quality of life like the millions of others who truly are suffering and truly have chronic pain where in some people and their type of pain, OPIATES are the only thing that seems to give any kind of relief. Let’s not forget Norcos last only a few hours I’d say 4 hrs tops in helping but I’m pushing that. It’s truly more like 3 hrs. I’m 56 I was a waitress for 26 yrs then went to factory work. I do love the work I do I love the people I work with and the company I work for. But when people like myself are dealing with chronic day after day night after night pain sometimes it’s hard to love or even like anything in your life. I also was refuting a Neurosurgeon by my doc back in December after that MRI I had in November last year. I will not write another novel about my experience with him. Let’s just say he tried to tell me I never had surgery on my l5 he laughed YES HE LAUGHED AT ME while I was telling him about the WORSE DAY I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE AT WORK WITH SUCH SEVERE SPASMS I COULD NOT REALLY BREATHE. He laughed and said SOUNDS LIKE AN ANXIETY ATTACK. I asked him WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING AT ME, I never had an anxiety attack in my life.

It was SEVERE SPASMS. He just shook his head left to right with a cocky smile. I don’t know why but I listened to him as he ordered more tests and I got them. After a little over 2,000.00 I just STOPPED SEEING HIM. All the while I am dying with this back pain. I finally called my surgeon because actually I didn’t think he could help me. I could still work without busting into tears I did shed tears secretly on a daily basis though. My surgeon looked at my MRIs I explained to him the severe pain I was having and he listened. I had a Thoracic Epidermal Steroid Inj. with sedation On May 22nd. I finally found some relief Thank You Jesus!!! It’s not totally gone and I can get up to three a year. My only prayer is that soon one day I can get back on my regimen of taking the only medication that gives me some quality of life. All this time I wasn’t given any pain meds. Only anti-inflammatory meds which I refused to take because I needed IMMEDIATE RELIEF for my pain so I chose to continue to take my ibuprofen. I know the dangers of taking too many of those but I had / have no choice anymore. I must take something I need to work. Thank you for listening if you read it all. I apologize for taking so much of your time. Also I’d like to add I like thousands of others have had the same doctor the same pharmacy for just about 20 yrs. I’ve never went to the ER asking for pain meds. I’ve never asked the pain clinic doctor for pain meds as I never asked the neurosurgeon for pain meds. I was praying that thru my MRIs bone scans ct scans xrays and my testimony of how my pain affects my everyday life they would have at least eased my pain while they were figuring out which route to take. That did not happen. If anyone is reading this and lives in the Kalamazoo Michigan area knows of a doctor a pain clinic that can help me I would be so appreciative for any information. Thanks again all.

Re: Just medchatting (# 110) Expand Referenced Message

I wish that I knew what to recommend to you but I just do not. I know nothing about Michigan. As a general rule I will just say that when talking to any medical professional that one needs to muster up all of the inner strength they can and talk to ANY Doctor calmly and without any drama. These Doctors are used to people trying to work them for pain medications and these people are real drama queens and put on quite the show thinking that if they act this way they will get what they are asking for. Most of the time they get reactions like you received. After over 12 years of receiving hydrocodone AND lorazapam to help me sleep at night the Pharmacy I went to hired a new Pharmacist and he said he did not agree with my Doctor and wanted me try other options. I am almost 70 and I do not have other options. I asked the Pharmacist: Are you trained to make a medical diagnosis? Have you ever examined me? Do you have my medical history? Of course the answer was no to each question. I advised him to fill the prescriptions and leave the examination and medical history up to my DOCTOR. A Pharmacist is NOT a medical Doctor. Their training allows them to know which medications go with other medications. I don't care if they ask me HOW i am taking the hydrocodone and the Lorazapam (1/2 mg at night) together because benzodiazapam and hydrocodone do not mix if they are taken improperly. I do not want to go on about me. I will just say try and find the right Doctor and speak unimpassionately about your history. I hope that helps.

You are extremely fortunate that your doctor is still willing to script a pain killer and a benzo together. My PM quit doing it at least 5 years ago and still asks at each appointment if my meds have changed and am I receiving a benzo from any other doctor. They are that concerned about the dangers of the combo. I believe it was maybe 3 or 4 years ago when the CDC strongly suggested there were far too many deaths due to the combo and doctors should not script them together period. I agree that someone like yourself that has such success with the combo and has had no problems should be able to decide if the risk is worth taking.

I have taken Percocet for more than 15 years and February 2018, I was given Camber brand and got deathly ill. I felt poisoned. Vomiting, terrible stomach cramps, shaking, dizziness, no pain control, just awful. After two weeks I read that this was happening to lots of people. First I called Walgreens and was told once I leave the store, nothing they can do. So called my PM who was kind enough to script me enough hydrocodone to get me to my next refill. The pharmacy has been ordering Actavis brand for me ever since. Two months ago they told me it no longer showed up on their order form which means they cannot order it. Started getting me Mallinkrodt which has been fine.

In doing research I found that Camber is based in India and has only been manufacturing Percocet for a couple of years and you guessed it, its very cheap! It took me a good 30 days to feel like my old self again. I have literally been on every manufacturer of Percocet at one time or another and never felt like that. Very scary!

Re: Bravesfan (# 112) Expand Referenced Message
First, the amount is benzodiazepines you take and when has a lot to do with it. I have taken only 1 mg of Lorazapam and 3-4 7,5 hydrocodonr with 325 mg acetaminophen for over 12 years. I have bad shoulder pain from a ski fall and a bad back from a fall during an ice storm, I never take the hydrocodone after 5 and I do not take the Lorazapam until after 8:30 at night. It is for anxiety and helps me sleep better. Taking such a small amount hours apart has made it safe for me.

Re: cliff j (# 111) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for your response. As I talked with the Neurosurgeon and Pain Specialist I was calm and collective without any drama. I believe they just looked at me and didn’t believe my pain and situation. To have a Neurosurgeon laugh in your face as you tell them the worst ever day you’ve had in your life experiencing the craziest spasms while at work was very traumatic for me because right then and there I felt he does not believe me. I was so depressed after I left his office. As far as the Pain Specialist He was very rude and sarcastic in his response to Go See What Your Surgeon Thinks and See What He Would Do. He only replied with that rude comment because my physician was taken back by not having the MRI with contrast. My physician suggested I asked him Why and I did calmly and mature. So I decided to ask the Pain Spec Why it wasn’t ordered with contrast. I knew that clinic made a mistake because before I seen the Spec a nurse came in and asked me questions about my pain and such. I first asked her why my MRI wasn’t ordered with Contrast since my physician who recommended this clinic to me asked me if I knew. She looked WIDED EYED and said OH it’s really bad in the kidneys. I said oh my kidneys are fine functionally, well I’ve never had a problem with my kidneys. I get a yearly blood screen and never had a red flag. She then said OH your kidneys can go at anytime. So at that point I thought OMG does she think I’m that stupid to believe that. Then the Spec came in after about 20 minutes and I honestly could tell he wasn’t interested in even talking to me. Our conversation lasted 10 minutes. I was again upset and depressed after this visit. I felt very strongly that he did not like to be questioned about my MRI. Any doctor / surgeon will tell you YES an MRI WITH CONTRAST SHOWS MUCH MORE AFTER A PERSON HAS HAD SURGERY. So I just feel I’m getting screwed by doctors / specialists. So I try to smile and carry on and if I can’t I don’t. I’m tired of faking smiles.

Re: Medchatting (# 115) Expand Referenced Message

I know there are Doctors out there that think everybody is gaming them no matter what your records show and how politely you speak to them. I know it. Is difficult to change Doctors but sometimes they leave you no choice. I am at a loss as to what to comment back to you. I have never had any problem with my Doctors as I explained to them how long I have been on a certain therapy, my age, and why I am on the regimen that I am on.i have seen at least 4 Neurosurgeons and they all independently wrote the same report by to my Doctor and they said the therapy I am on is the best course of action for me. I almost never suggest that anyone change Physicians but it sounds as you may not have any alternative.

One cannot even have the most civil of conversations with any Pharmacist or Doctor about pain medicine. You cannot even speak about it without being thought of as a drug addict.

I don’t know if it’s everywhere but up in New England Walgreens and Walmart use the same distributor, Rite Aid and CVS I believe use the same distributor as each other but I know they are definitely different than the Wallgreens distributor. I don’t know if that helps you. Years ago when I was desperate for Teva Adderall I contacted Teva myself and ask them which pharmacies they distributed to within 100 miles of my house. It was during an adderall shortage so there were none I appreciate it I’m looking so that I didn’t have to cold call pharmacies all over the state.
