Does Tramadol Have Any Anti Inflammatory Properties
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have long standing osteoarthritis, with significant degenerative changes I did have a cervical fusion 20years ago & I attend a neurology clinic every 3 months. Over the last year I have had significant changes in pain & movement. I have been using a 50mg Indomethocid suppository along with 20mg of Amitriptyline at night which works well However during the day where I once used steriods I have now been prescribed 50mgTramadol. This is a new regime so I can give no real feed back . However the Pain clinic suggest I rather use Lyrica, this I'm reluctant to try as this seems a pain solution, I need an antiinflmmatory (for movement) and a pain solution for when movement is limited.A double edged sword. Although I am 77 yrs old I still need to function. My next visit to the Neurology department is 8th December & I need to know the right questions to ask. Please advise

Since my last post I have been on 75ml Lyrica twice a day. Perhaps too early to give good assessment however I have greater movement in my upper body, though pains in my leg and lower back persist early in the morning. I have added a chiropractor to my support system and again wonder whether his input is giving me greater movement. Over the last week my feet and legs are swollen and I've been given a diuretic but not sure if this is effective. I was told that Lyrica would give me better sleep patterns but I still have problems , pain in my shoulders and in my legs make settling down difficult Given time will the Lyrica eventually take care of the pain or should I be using Tramadol at night because sleep eludes me because of pain.? Sounds like I'm caught between the devil and the deep blue sea,Started 25mg Lyrica few days ago, gave me a screaming headache and every joint in my body complaining, thought this might just be initial reaction to a new regime. Took the other 25mg @ night with same results, used ice packs, at 3am used Tramadol and slept for a few hours, Reluctant to try Lyrica again until I speak to my neurologist on the 8th December. Will be using 1 Tramadol during the day and Arthrexin & Amitrypteline at night until then Thank you so much for your responces..............M

No, Tramadol is actually classified as a mild opioid. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

Have you tried taking it, yet?

Lyrica is actually an anticonvulsant, according to the NIH, which has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain, and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain.
