Private Methadone Doctors In Portland (Top voted first)

Updated

Hi, I am an opiate addict. I have already tried the suboxone route and it was terrible to get off and terrible to be on. I would like to try methadone for awhile and not stand in line. Can someone please let me know of a private dr who prescribes methadone in Portland?

Maybe its because doctors label addicts the way u label people at clinics as "homeless" and such, as u do of people at clinics!! Maybe u NEED to go thru some of these struggles yourself so ur not so judgmental of "addicts" willing to get help!! No wonder drs view addicts this way. Just cause u can afford to get ur drugs doesn't make u any better than the next. There r no homeless at my clinic. There r attorneys, doctors, police officers that go to the clinic every day to get what they need. Wow some people never cease to amaze me. U don't DESERVE TO STAND IN LINE WITH ADDICTS AT A CLINIC. PLEEEEASE!!! Maybe your money can get you a doctor then!!!

I'm sorry, but under current Methadone treatment laws, a clinic is your only option. Private physicians are not allowed to prescribe it for addiction treatment or maintenance.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Can anyone suggest a good clinic in that area?

This is really unfortunate because I really dont deserve to have to get in line with a bunch of homeless/acrid/foul mouthed/ill mannered/addicts and be treated like cattle by a clinic social worker who's jaded and cares nothing about MY individual situation/maitainace/care, dosed by a 'moderator' in liquid form (which I dont want) and seen by other people downtime in this line. What the hell kind of laws are these? If people are allowed to drink themselves to death, smoke until they get hideous mouth cancer, and essentially pick their own poisons....why cant honest, insurance paying, hard working individuals with struggles get privatized care when we not only have the money for it, but desire it for legitimate reasons? Being in a dopeifend line is a trigger, not a calming period regardless of what time of the day it is. This is f***ing bulls***. Im better off being an addict!

I go to a clinic and felt the same way in the beginning but if your serious about getting treatment it's worth it and that off feeling will pass and you realize there will always be those people who are there for all the wrong reasons but there are also people just like you who are there who are serious about treatment and want there life back and when you find those people you won't feel as awkward. You won't have to go everyday for long it will only be for a few months before you have take homes and only have to go every week to a month. And a lot of clinics are different the first one I went to was nothing but weird people who looked like they all crawled out of an ally who would sell there kid for a hit. But the one I'm at now has a lot of people like me who became addicted through taking prescription medication and have nice jobs and take care of themselves. A lot of it is about location if you live in a inner city area or bad area yea your going to have a weird crowd of people but they aren't all like that, just go there worry about yourself and don't worry about those people. The only private option you have is suboxone. Only Suboxone can be prescribed privately. But you also have to think, I know you say you need it for legitimate reasons and shouldn't have to go everyday and stand in line, but if your serious about treatment it's worth it, plus if it were that easy there would be a lot of people abusing it and taking it for all the wrong reasons.

I decided to start going because I wanted to change my life and I have, and have no regrets. not all clinics are like you described. a lot can be but there are also a lot that are well maintained and have awesome people who work there and really help you. Treatment isn't just about taking a medicine it's about doing groups and counseling as well and finding you way back to a normal life. Cutting out all my old friends and finding something to do with my time was the hardest part. a lot of people think medication alone is enough but its not. I had to cut almost every friend out of my life and even some family because they would only hold me back. Also you have to be seen by the nurse everyday taking your dose until your stable and have shown them with U/A's that your serious about Getting off opiates and after you've proved yourself you won't have to go but once a Week or month and the time does go by fairly quick. I was uncomfortable at the first place I went because of a lot of the people there but the place I go to now is amazing and has helped me in so many ways. My counselor is awesome and has helped me through a lot and really helped me find direction. I've meet a lot of people just like me and the group's really have helped me by hearing others talk about a lot of the same things ive faced as well. It may be awkward at first but after a while you will come to enjoy it, if you go to a clinic and don't like it then find another until you find one you like and feel comfortable at.
