I take d-amphetamine salt combos 20mg twice daily, and I recently had a hair drug test for pre-employment purposes. I tested positive for methamphetamine at a level of 570ng/mg, but I have never touched meth! They already did the GC/MS, and are now doing an isomer test, but they say that my adderall could NOT have cause a positive meth result! I've seen in other responses that this is possible, however I can't find any documentation to prove this. I've read over the Adderall and methamphetamine information profiles on this site, but still don't have the proof I need. Does anyone know where I can find this documentation? Please help!

I'm going through the same,somehow it can show up,as a false,positive,UA,well that's what I took but I was taking 30 mg adderal, so they acused me of being on meth,I have no doctor now,and want justice,please let me know what you find

Hi. You are very knowledgeable about the aderrall I take. I just got fired from a 3rd doctor. I have an appt with a new doctor & I need something in writing to give my new doctor explaining why my tests have turned up positive for meth. I can print out this forum & what you have written but I don't think it will do too much. I can give you my file. Scripts. Etc & even be my doctor. Can you please help me & write something explaining this? You have the credentials & the knowledge & I really need help! Thank you,

I found a local lab that does the isomer test but they do not accept specimens from other labs. The original lab that test came back positive with does not do isomer tests. What now? The original lab claims that the presence of methamphetamine at all indicated the use of methamphetamine, period. I'm facing prison.

What do you mean that it quietly disappears? It hasn't disappeared because I am facing a probationary revocation. What can I do ? The lab tells me they do not perform isomer tests, a local lab that DOES perform them does not conduct tests on samples from other labs.

In conclusion from my original post, I really want doctors and labs to stand up and take notice. (I realize that most people will try to say they are the victims of a false positive, but I am speaking for those of us who are are honest, have integrity, and a spotless medical record). Now, at the time I tested positive for methamphetamine, I was being tested at 2 different Dr's offices every month for the past 4 years, so how STUPID would I have been to start using after all this time. Also, I had just had a pain pump implanted by the same Dr that dropped me 2 weeks later. This Dr refused to talk to me, and his staff said to me, "methamphetamine is methamphetamine", after they had just handed me the lab report, (BTW, that took me a month to get out of them) that absolutely refuted that ignorant (ignorant is not stupid, it's simply un-knowing) statement. It stated, "The positive results could be EITHER an illicit drug OR certain OTC nasal sprays". I had been using an OTC spray for years, and I used it just before them giving me a saliva test. I think common sense tells us that the spray running down the back of the throat would be all over that saliva test strip. I went thru almost a year of HELL trying to find a pain management Dr that would accept me. They turned me down due to either my positive test or they wouldn't manage a pain pump implanted by another Dr. Basically I was BLACKLISTED. As an aside, they also failed to advise me that the medicine (morphine sulfate) in my pain pump MUST be drained and refilled at least every 6 months. I went almost a year and my pump was within DAYS of going dry!! Plus, what was in it was very unstable and dangerous to my system, and could have caused severe withdrawal symptoms.

DOCTORS, PLEASE, PLEASE!! Realize that you are not perfect, but that patient is placing their life in your hands, and you need to be SURE that you are doing what is best for THEM. If a patient tests positive for a non-prescribed drug or an illicit drug for the first time, give them the respect you expect to be afforded to you, and give them the chance to at least explain the test, take another test, etc. I think it has been shown, at least in an anecdotal sense, that no lab test for drugs is considered 100% infallible. My lab report, previously mentioned, proves this.

Patients: If you are completely innocent, push your Dr for a second chance, perhaps volunteering to be tested randomly as many times a month as is necessary. Or volunteer for a more accurate test such as a hair follicle test, at your expense. (that's better than being dropped and being blacklisted in the medical community.)

I worked for a very large law enf. agency, and their policy for a first time positive test was an immediate confirmation test and mandatory counseling. I am now asking any doctor or lab tech trolling this site that may have additional info on this please respond. There are countless folks out there needlessly suffering because a Dr was either jaded toward pain patients and did not heed their pleadings of innocence, or he feared sanctions by the DEA, or the lab simply made a mistake.

Generally, we've found that ADDERALL 30mg IR - SANDOZ (generic) - tests positive for meth. If that's the Adderall a pt is taking, the issue quietly disappears.

I second this response, I'm a RN and former Navy Medic who suffered a TBI during thee war. I've been taking Adderall XR for about 7yrs now.

I was assigned a new PC and he did his initial tox screen, got a letter a few days later saying I'd tested positive for Methamphetamine, and he could help me in my recovery etc.... I blew his phone up he wouldn't return my calls, I needed this headed off ASAP because if it makes it into my record it would adversely affect my future medical treatments and my career. 2 weeks went by and nothing was able to get an emergency type appointment w/ him.

Don't do drugs, drink, smoke etc... So I did my homework prior to going to my PC and found that methamphetamine breaks down into amphetamine and a lab should be able to do an additional test to determine between the 2, here's a blurb below:

"Methamphetamine actually breaks down and metabolizes into amphetamine. There are many other drugs in methamphetamine and a wide range of chemicals that can make this drug extremely potent and dangerous to use. Because of the way that methamphetamine breaks down into amphetamine, drug tests which show a presence of amphetamine are often considered a positive indication of methamphetamine use."

Now when I finally got to my PC he came in the office saying he was surprised I wasn't screaming etc etc. I told him that wouldn't get me anywhere but I think I knew where things went wrong lab wise, he stopped me, said he called the lab and they verified the Adderall. It's more a procedural issue most places see the amphetamine and they just stop there vs doing the extra step, I guess because those having it in their system are more likely to be taking methamphetamine vs having an RX for amphetamine?? I tried for answers as to why this wasn't automatically done in labs and was stone walled.

I also had a false positive test for meth. I am a retired cop and honest as the day is long. I pleaded with them to do a confirmation test but they said it had been to long of a time frame, 2 weeks, for it to make a difference. Now on the report from the lab, it did differinciate between the adderall and the meth. But it stated that the positive could be an illicit drug OR, certain nasal decongestion sprays. I have been using one for years, and the rest they gave me that day was a saliva test. They wwouldn't even consider that might be the cause. It took me almost a year to find a new pain Dr. But I did, and actually that first Dr did me a favor cause my new Dr is just incredible.

My God. After reading the above post, I am literally speechless. I don't know whether to be disgusted or amused. Actually, I'm pretty amused.

Some feedback: Amphetamine and methamphetamine are damn near the exact same thing. In rat studies, adderall has a "liking" rating and abuse potential effect either the same as or greater than cocaine. And, by the way, this is in doses similar to those described by quite a few of this forum posters. Also, check out the National Institute of Healths report on the long term effects of amphetamine us in doses equivalent to those prescribed to the average adhd children. Neurological, physical, and psychological effects consistent with Cocaine use. Poster number 9, Courtney I believe, said something kind of like this, "I am outraged by my false positive for methamphetamine, it could of caused alot of problems for my children and husband with a secret clearance." ummm, Im pretty sure discussing your husband's credentials on the internet will be more disturbing to his employer than your false positive on a drug tests.

When I read these above posts, I see some signs of normalcy, but alot of signs of borderline-delusional, grandiose bs shot at the screen as if from an uninhibited, over-focused, off-range machine gun. This is a negative side effect of excessive stimulant use.

PS-A particular, legitimate brand of adderall is not associated with an increased frequency of false positives on a drug test compared with another legitimate brand. I know what some of ya'll are thinking. "Your wrong, Rockerfeller owns this particular brand of adderall, and they put methamphetamine in it to make it more addictive so they can take the profit and use it to build the satellites for the illuminate peoples republic so they can....." No-just...no. Get help.

I failed a drug test for methamphetamine while taking my Adderall. They sent it off to the lab and it come back as amphetamines.

You don't get immunity from working under the influence of street drugs under HIPPA. You have some skewed notion of the confidentiality provided by this law. Is I had hired neurosurgeon and we had to do an all-out tox screen because of some false positive along the way. If the screen showed bootleg meth, non-prescribe opiates and tons of benzes, I'd be violating the law hiring this guy to join our surgical staff— and no Court would void our decision to withdraw the job offer on the grounds of HIPPA. I don't know where you get your legal information, but my kid sister is Admitted to Practice Before the Supreme Court as well as every other Court down the line. If you don't mine, Id take her $800/hour advice over that of your Public Defender.

And the Eon Lab's (owned by Sandoz, a very reputable and established pharm manufacturer) 30mg IR tab very often tests positive for methamphetamine. I'm not sure about the XR. Besides. I'm betting these drug tests are U/A only and the lowest bidder got the sale. You have other alternatives, Don't let the bastards get to you. I'm an MD qwth a PhD in Pharmacology. I know my s**t. I'd never accept a bottom of the heap cheap commercial "drug test" as proof or not proof of anything. Good luck, bro! First, you ask for a redo and that can be on the original s***ty text and if you get a pos, have your union rep insist on a generally accepted as PASSABLE drug test. More money; some blood, but this will clear it up. Methamphetamine has a short half-life, relatively speaking.. IF YOU WERE DOING methamphetamine, YOU'D STOP FASTER THAN FAST & ASK FOR A DO OVER. If you're taking your Adderall daily (and the 30mg IR tab is given BID or TID; I've never written for more), you'll get a positive. There's plenty of research on this. Google Scholar is a good place, but medical research is a pain in the ass, even for me, However, more expensive drug tests can calcify the issue once and for all.

This person is in a serious incredibly stressful situation here. So there's no reason for you to be a d*** about it to them! Saying, "you're screwed" and "say goodbye to that job". Plus on a cheap office test many things can go wrong.

Adderall is a mixture of d- and dl- isomers. Period. And I'll sign my PhD in Pharmacology behind that and you won't find a lab tech with those creds! The is,res are of, course of AMPHETAMINE.

Sandoz [a venerable drug company that developed d-LSD-25 and trademarked it DELYSID-25 and gave us the first drugs that were effective against migraine and tension headache (DHE, CAFERGOT, CAFERGOT-B, FIORINAL #3, SANEST, close relative to) owns EON, company that makes ADDERALL 30mg IR. The pill is married EON 303. It's notorious for causing false positives for methamaphetamine. Oddly enough this seems to be the only strength of AdderalI IR manufactured by EON that has this effect. I don't know if ADDERALL-XL 30h test pos for meth, bt. We shrinks knew about this for a while btw, but only if our patients were drug-tested.

SANDOZ's Adderall 30mg IR has been known to show positive for methamphetamine. It's happened to one or two of my pts.

You're taking 20mg of d- and dl-AMPHET COMBO SALTS. D-amphetamine was originally known as Dexedrine and dl-amphetamine as BENZEDRINE. Address is a combination of the two salts. It seems that the dl-amphetamnes causes the pos methamphetamine results...we think.
