I am looking for an MD or Pain clinic that will prescribe pain medication in Rhode Island. I have 4 herniated discs, nerve damage in my leg, severe migraines. My former Md said that he could not longer prescribe due to the regulations, I dont want to have to move, that would be crazy to have to go through that, but I also do not want to continue living night and day in Agony, with not one Md that has any compassion, it seems all they care about is to look out for themselves, I only take 2 pain medications that I believe are both in class 1, but when you talk to a doctor about pain, they tell you to take tylenol. I am tired of theses doctors just caring about themselves, if you have a patient like myself, that has the MRI's and Catscans to show what my pain level is, they should be a little more compassionate. I am not able to have surgery at this time, not until my daughter is driving and able to get out on her own, grocery store, ect. I would really appreciate any advise, I sleep with a heat pad every night on my back, but when I go to get up, the pain is unbearable.

Not only do I need a new PCP,and would be a rather far ride,I need a doc,that will help look for answers,I've had a very complex issue for 3 yrs,my current dr of 17 yrs has done nothing to try to figure it out,I've had to go to several specialists but on my own,I need a doc to point me in the right direction and also need pain meds,not high doses just enough to take the edge off,I'd b happy with Tramadol & Fioricet prn for my migraines which my current doc prescribed for 17 yrs but now afraid to give anything,is this Dr the type who may help in both these areas? Thanks!

That is an incredible idea! No one thinks about the people who really need these melds to try to live a somewhat normal lives! I'm not a conspiracy theory person,but I've talked to friends about same age as I am,these meds have been around as long as I remember and were given out like candy for some reason you never saw this result. I truly believe when the drug companies started reformulating&added all the synthetics that's when this began. I was on rediculous amts of opiates about 7yrs ago,at MY request I came down& off,unfortunately my rheum.retired,now that I'm in need of something even Tramadol would help PCP treats you like a seeker,go to pain clinic is his answer.If you can come up with an idea about the forgotten pts lmk,I know plenty of people in the same boat!

I would call insurance company and ask for an exception. What insurance company? I have an appointment coming up and will ask Emily why, and try to get a name for you. But we all know insurance is the key, as he is affiliated with Norwood Hospital.

It is because of the junkies that are abusing their pain meds and taking illicit drugs. And they're dying. They're not getting pain meds like we the normal people are giving them. They're getting them to take recreationally. And yes this is the reason we are all in this situation. Dr's don't want to give anything because of the overdoses. And who's overdosing? The junkies with their illicit drugs, ruining it for everyone else.

3 oxycodone how did your Dr get away with writing that for you?? The dose is 2 a day. There time release every 12 hours. That's a lot of pain meds you were giving. I think this is a problem also the Dr over prescribe pain meds. I understand we're all in pain. But that is a lot of pain meds for one day

Your on very high pain meds already.. Your lucky your Dr gives you all that. And you want more?? My Dr had me on 2/ 80 MG of OxyContin. He told me he couldn't give 80 mg anymore becauce the state wouldn't allow him. That was a lie becauce Dr's are still giving 80mg So he cut me down to 60mg. And I also take 2/15mg oxycodone a day. Your on triple then what I'm on. I'm surprised your Dr gives you all that pain med with all this stuff that's going on

LONG story (15+ years now), but at around 25-26 something awful just happened & my back and everything changed and was in suck pain... back then was always sent home with pain killers & bed rest &/or no work & go to PT or the chiropractor. I moved away for 6 years (traveled) & for 2-3 of that got off all medicine for my back... fast forward. New doctor did more tests (scans/MRI's/x-ray, etc etc)..... put me back on. I'm down to 2-3 a day. Been seeing a GREAT alternative healer (she's a real MD) but I am sooo happy just to be off the meds! I would love to only take my vitamins everyday for the rest of my life!

Unfortunately my friend is in RI and Dr Lowney doesn't accept his insurance! They also weren't able to offer any RI referrals when I called ... if you could squeeze one out of them that would be great :)

Hello and thank you for the thread... I have a friend who is in the same boat: Relief from pain w/ oxycodone for 10-15 yrs, same dosage, no attempt to abuse - given the boot by his PCP. Now scrambling to find a new PCP and/or Pain Mgt Clinic, Psychiatrist, etc. He is also having a hard time finding a doctor to prescribe Ambien which he reports is the most effective sleep aid he has found thus far. We are in the process of contacting all doctors recommended in this thread. Has anyone had any success with an attorney? Have insurance companies been helpful at all? Should we try to contact the media and see if they will run a story about "the other side of the coin" in the opioid crisis? How about contacting the drug manufacturers - they are the ones who profit from these prescriptions? :) Have no idea if any of this would work. If anyone has experience going any of these routes let us know. {edited for privacy}
